Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nanotechnology has domination the world in the wake of the recent industrial developments. More specifically, electronic and optoelectronic devices are the hotbed of the most recent developmental technologies. Advanced functional nanomaterials and their nanoscale coatings play a vital role in the fabrication of nascent optoelectronic devices. These devices have myriads of applications, especially in the realm of biomedical and environmental sciences. For example, recent advancements in the development of nanoscale biomedical devices have helped to diagnose and treat various acute diseases, saving many precious lives. Similarly, these nanoscale devices have great potential in environmental applications, medical diagnostics, industrial production, mining, household safety, sustainability and the environment.

There are plethora of methods used to coat advanced functional nanomaterials on their substrates of choice for device fabrication. Some of the most important coating methods of interest are magnetron sputtering, metal organic chemical vapor deposition, pulse laser deposition, atomic layer deposition, molecular beam epitaxy, microwave-assisted deposition, solvothermal and hydrothermal coatings. This Special Issue focuses on publishing research on the development of novel micro/nanoscale devices fabricated via the aforementioned coating methods. We invite potential authors to submit their novel research ideas in the form of articles, short communications and review papers. The scope of this Special Issue will serve as a platform for papers on the following concepts:

  • The experimental processing of new methods of nanomaterial coatings.
  • The advent of new advanced functional nanomaterials and their fabrication and characterization in optoelectronics.
  • Nanoscale coatings for novel biomedical devices to diagnose multiple chronic diseases.
  • Nanoscale coatings of novel devices for environmental monitoring such as gas sensors, e-nose systems and optical cameras.
  • Computer-aided simulations and the modelling of multiple coatings for biomedical and environmental applications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
