Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Organic coatings provide essential protection, functionality, and sustainability in a wide range of applications, making them important for advances in modern materials science. The development and use of new, constantly improving surface protection systems using coatings is currently influenced by many factors, including the high efficiency of these coatings, control of the minimization of negative environmental impacts, such as the minimization of the carbon footprint, the use of automation and robotization in coating creation and application technologies, as well as the efficiency and economy of coatings and complex surface treatments. This also includes quality control at all stages of the life cycle of these systems and the possible facilitation of these processes using artificial intelligence.
This Special Issue aims to shed light on innovative advances in coating materials and strategies, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly solutions and the development of smart, multifunctional coatings based on new materials, approaches, and possibly digitalization. We bring together research from academia and industry to develop high-performance coating technologies. This Special Issue features studies on new binders, pigments, and additives, as well as smart corrosion-resistant and architectural coatings. We encourage submissions that utilize digital tools and life cycle analysis, as these elements are critical to increasing the relevance of research and applications of new coating materials. This Special Issue illustrates cutting-edge developments in environmentally responsible coatings, increased durability, and the strategic integration of digital practices. We invite high-quality submissions that address pressing challenges and support the transition to advanced, sustainable surface technologies.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
