Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ceramic coatings and materials have garnered increasing attention due to their exceptional mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. With advancements in material science, these coatings are being widely employed in the aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and energy industries for enhanced performance, durability, and sustainability. Their unique properties, such as high hardness, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance, make them essential for next-generation engineering solutions.

This Special Issue aims to explore recent advancements in the development, characterization, and applications of ceramic coatings and materials. It seeks to provide an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, scientists, and engineers to share innovative approaches, novel processing techniques, and emerging applications in this field. By contributing to this Special Issue, authors will help advance knowledge in coatings technology, bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial applications.

Suggested Themes and Topics

  • Novel fabrication techniques for ceramic coatings (e.g., thermal spraying, sol-gel, PVD, and CVD).
  • Advances in high-performance ceramic materials.
  • Microstructural characterization and analysis of ceramic coatings.
  • Corrosion, wear, and oxidation resistance of ceramic coatings.
  • Functional and smart ceramic coatings for extreme environments.
  • Ceramic coatings in biomedical applications.
  • Energy-efficient and sustainable ceramic coatings.
  • Computational modeling and simulation of ceramic materials.
  • Industrial and real-world applications of ceramic coatings.

We invite original research articles and comprehensive review papers covering, but not limited to, the above topics. We look forward to your contributions that will enhance the knowledge on and application of advanced ceramic coatings and materials.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Coatings is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
