Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce this Special Issue and welcome your submissions.
Medicinal plants and phytochemicals are critical to the advancement of medicine due to their therapeutic properties, which have potent health benefits across a wide range of human diseases and conditions. Since ancient times, medicinal plants have been used in traditional medicine. With the advances in monitoring and separating biomolecules, we are eager to use phytochemicals as remedies today. In this regard, medicinal plants and phytochemicals that prevent and intervene in metabolic diseases and their complications have gained paramount interest. They may exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-diabetic, and anti-dyslipidemia effects, ameliorate liver function, and improve cardiometabolic conditions, among other examples. Additionally, they can be used to treat complications of metabolic diseases. For example, diabetic, cardiovascular, and kidney-related pathologies can be alleviated through medicinal plants and phytochemicals’ anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, ultimately leading to cardio- and nephroprotective effects.
This Special Issue delves into the rationale that medicinal plants and phytochemicals are essential generators of a healthier, less diseased future, especially in the fight against metabolic diseases and their complications. We welcome clinical interventional and observational studies on the effects of medicinal plants and phytochemicals against metabolic diseases and their complications. Critical, narrative, systematic, and simple reviews and meta-analyses are also welcome. Preclinical studies may also be considered.
This Special Issue is supervised by Dr. Sandra Barbalho and is assisted by our Guest Editor Assistant Dr. Lucas Fornari Laurindo, Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology, School of Medicine, Universidade de Marília (UNIMAR). We look forward to receiving your brilliant submissions. Your willingness to publish in this Special Issue will bolster the project’s success.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Current Issues in Molecular Biology is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
