Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The role of the cellular organelles in neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders has received increasing attention over the past few years. These disorders are common disabilities primarily associated with the functioning of the brain and likely result from a combination of genetic and environmental risk factors. Dysfunctions of the cellular organelles such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), lysosomes, endosomes, Golgi apparatus, ribosomes, and autophagosome play important roles in multiple brain disorders. However, the way that these organelle dysfunctions contribute to disease progressions in different brain cell types remains to be elucidated. Additionally, crucial physiological functions of cells are regulated by complex organelle crosstalk including mitochondrial–ER contacts (MERCs), mitochondria–endolysosomal systems, autophagy–lysosomal pathways, and exosome–autophagy pathways, etc. It’s still largely unknown how the dysfunction of organelle crosstalk regulates the progression of these various brain disorders.

This Special Issue provides a platform for original research manuscripts and prospective reviews on the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of the organelle dysfunctions and the potential therapeutic strategies in the neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders.
