Mitochondrial DNA and Neurodegeneration

Recent work indicates that alterations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) are a key factor in neurodegenerative processes. The main objective of this EMBO Workshop is to bring together scientists working on mtDNA regulation at the molecular level with scientists working on molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration with the aim to discuss recent developments and design new strategies to identify drug targets. Another objective of this workshop is to pinpoint the fundamental issues to be addressed in a future research programme devoted to identify the molecular mechanisms responsible for the alterations of mtDNA function in neurodegenerative disorders.
