Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Extreme weather events are becoming increasingly frequent and severe, posing significant challenges to the resilience and sustainability of the built environment. Buildings, infrastructure systems, and urban communities are continuously exposed to hazards such as floods, heatwaves, storms, and wildfires, which threaten both physical assets and human safety. Strengthening resilience in this context requires a comprehensive perspective that integrates effective management practices, technological innovation, and a deeper understanding of human behaviour and decision-making under conditions of risk and uncertainty.

Against this backdrop, this Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers and practitioners to examine emerging strategies and solutions for enhancing the resilience of the built environment to extreme weather events. We welcome contributions that offer theoretical insights, empirical evidence, modelling approaches, and practical case studies that advance knowledge in resilient infrastructure, climate-responsive design, and disaster risk management. Interdisciplinary perspectives that bridge engineering, environmental science, urban planning, and social dimensions of resilience are particularly encouraged.

The main topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Climate-adaptive building design and resilient infrastructure systems;

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Buildings is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
