Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Immediate access to data is an increasingly important design characteristic for biosensing. The development of point-of-care devices is therefore becoming more and more of interest, both academically and industrially. This issue will focus on biosensors that enable data collection at the site of measurement, often balancing competing design factors such as cost, physical size and limits of detection.
Point of care sensing is now well known, accepted and understood by the general public. Lateral flow tests were previously most experienced in the form of pregnancy tests, but since the COVID pandemic have also become commonly used to detect the presence of viruses. Continuous monitoring is also now fairly common, as glucose sensors have developed to the point that people with diabetes, and indeed people without diabetes who are simply curious about their health, can check their phones for their current and historical glucose concentrations.
Biosensing in this area is at an exciting point in its development. Previously costly tests are now or will soon be more readily available for a wide selection of important biomarkers and drugs. This has the capacity to improve and save lives; by making technology available to a larger proportion of people through decreasing cost, and by making diagnostic and/or therapeutic data available earlier through increased reporting speed.
This issue is dedicated to the important next steps in the development of point of care biosensing technologies.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
