Dear Colleagues,
The rapid and accurate detection of pathogenic microorganisms remains a critical challenge in clinical diagnostics, food safety, environmental monitoring, and public health surveillance. Traditional culture-based methods, though reliable, are time-consuming and labor-intensive, often delaying timely intervention. This Special Issue, “Advanced Biosensors for Rapid and Sensitive Detection of Microorganisms,” aims to showcase cutting-edge biosensing technologies that address these limitations.
We invite contributions focusing on novel transduction mechanisms (electrochemical, optical, piezoelectric, and thermal), innovative biorecognition elements (aptamers, phages, CRISPR-Cas systems, and molecularly imprinted polymers), and miniaturized device integration (microfluidics, lab-on-a-chip, and smartphone-based platforms). Emphasis is placed on achieving high sensitivity, specificity, and rapid response times (within minutes) for detecting bacteria, viruses, fungi, or their metabolites in complex matrices. Papers on multiplexed detection, point-of-care testing (POCT), and real-time monitoring are particularly encouraged. By bringing together original research articles, reviews, and technical notes, this Special Issue aims to accelerate the translation of advanced biosensors from laboratory prototypes to field-deployable solutions for combating infectious diseases and ensuring biosafety.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biosensors is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
