Dear Colleagues,
Proteins are central molecular determinants of cellular function, and their structure, stability, and dynamics govern biological outcomes in health and disease. Advances in proteomics, bioinformatics, and structural biology enable integrative analysis of protein structure–function relationships across physiological, pathological, stress-related contexts and the environment.
This Special Issue focuses on mechanistic insights into how protein/enzyme structure–function relationships are shaped by genetic variation, post-translational modifications, and environmental factors, and how these influences affect biological performance and disease mechanisms. We welcome studies examining the structural, biochemical, and proteomic consequences of mutations, altered stability, misfolding, aberrant interactions, dysregulated proteostasis, and changes in catalytic or regulatory mechanisms, particularly where environmental or physicochemical stressors such as oxidative conditions, chemical exposures, redox imbalance, pH, temperature, or metal ions modulate protein behaviour.
Topics of interest include structure–function prediction, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, protein interaction networks, enzyme mechanisms, redox-active proteins, protein aggregation and proteostasis, environmentally influenced modulation of catalytic activity, and molecular mechanisms underlying disorders where structural integrity and environmental context intersect. By integrating structural, proteomic, biochemical, biophysical, and computational/AI methodologies, this Special Issue aims to advance understanding of how intrinsic molecular properties and external influences converge to define protein function in biological systems and environments.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
