Dear Colleagues,
The use of biomimetic scaffolds has emerged as a key strategy in regenerative medicine, aiming to reproduce the structural, biochemical, and mechanical characteristics of native tissues to support functional regeneration. In biological systems, hierarchical architectures spanning nano-, micro-, and macroscale levels play critical roles in controlling cell behavior and tissue organization. Replicating these features in engineered scaffolds offers strong potential for improving outcomes in bone, cartilage, and soft tissue repair.
Recent advances have focused on integrating nanoscale topographical cues, gradient structures, and multifunctional components such as bioactive molecules, extracellular vesicles, and stimuli-responsive materials. These approaches enable enhanced control over stem cell recruitment, differentiation, immune regulation, and vascularization. However, translating the complexity of biological systems into simplified and effective scaffold designs remains a significant challenge.
This Special Issue welcomes contributions on the design, fabrication, and application of biomimetic scaffolds for regenerative medicine. Topics include advanced manufacturing techniques such as electrospinning and 3D/4D printing, as well as studies addressing biological mechanisms and clinical translation. Emphasis will be placed on multifunctional and translational biomaterials that bridge fundamental research and practical therapeutic applications.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Biomimetics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
