Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Chronic pain remains a major global health challenge, often arising from persistent neuroinflammatory processes that alter neuronal and glial function. Growing evidence highlights the pivotal role of neuroimmune interactions, glial activation, and the release of pro-inflammatory mediators in driving central and peripheral sensitization. Despite significant advances, the molecular and cellular mechanisms linking inflammation to pain chronification remain incompletely understood.

This Special Issue, titled “Molecular and Cellular Mechanisms of Neuroinflammation and Chronic Pain,” aims to provide a comprehensive platform for original research articles, reviews, and communications exploring the complex interplay between immune and neural components in pain pathology. We particularly welcome studies focusing on molecular signaling pathways, mitochondrial and oxidative stress responses, epigenetic and transcriptomic regulation, and the role of non-neuronal cells such as microglia, astrocytes, and peripheral immune cells. Contributions addressing novel therapeutic targets, biomarkers, and translational approaches for the modulation of neuroinflammation in chronic pain are especially encouraged.

By bringing together multidisciplinary perspectives, this Special Issue seeks to deepen the understanding of neuroimmune crosstalk and promote innovative strategies for the prevention and treatment of chronic pain.
