Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Woody plants are of immense ecological and economic significance, serving as indispensable resources for forestry, horticulture, bioenergy production, and ecosystem sustainability. Owing to their perennial growth habit, complex architecture, and remarkable adaptability to diverse environmental conditions, woody species provide valuable model systems for investigating the molecular and physiological mechanisms underlying plant development and stress responses. Elucidating the regulatory basis of these traits is essential not only for advancing fundamental plant biology but also for supporting practical applications in forestry improvement and breeding. Recent advances in multi-omics technologies and transformation strategies for woody plants have greatly accelerated the discovery of gene functions, regulatory networks, and the mechanisms underlying complex trait formation in these species.

This Special Issue, entitled “Forest Tree Functional Genomics: From Gene Networks to Physiological Regulation,” welcomes original research articles and reviews that explore the genetic, molecular, and physiological basis of important traits in woody plants. We particularly encourage submissions addressing secondary metabolism and stress resistance in forest species, the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis, the control of shoot branching, and the application of multi-omics approaches to uncover complex biological processes and regulatory mechanisms.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  1. Functional genomics of woody plants
  2. Gene regulatory networks controlling development and stress responses
  3. Secondary metabolism and its physiological roles in forest trees
  4. Molecular regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis
  5. Shoot branching and plant architecture regulation

We hope this Special Issue will provide a platform for advancing our understanding of woody plant biology and promoting innovative research with both fundamental and applied significance.
