Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) with biomedical imaging and sensing technologies is reshaping the future of healthcare. These advances are enabling more precise, efficient, and personalized approaches to disease diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring. The evolution of non-invasive imaging modalities and intelligent sensor systems offers unprecedented insight into complex physiological and pathological processes, opening new frontiers in medical research and clinical practice.
This Special Issue of Bioengineering, titled “AI-Driven Advances in Biomedical Diagnosis and Prognosis: Innovations, Applications, and Emerging Trends,” will showcase high-quality contributions that explore the development, integration, and application of cutting-edge imaging and sensing technologies enhanced by AI across biomedical domains. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and short communications that highlight interdisciplinary innovations bridging engineering, computer science, and medicine, with a focus on tools and systems that advance diagnostic accuracy, prognostic precision, and clinical decision-making.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT);
- Optical Imaging and Photoacoustic Imaging;
- Ultrasound and Elastography Imaging;
- Multimodal and Hybrid Imaging Systems;
- AI and Deep Learning for Biomedical Image and Signal Analysis;
- Smart Biosensors and Advanced Imaging Sensor Development;
- Real-Time Medical Image Reconstruction and Interpretation;
- Biomedical Signal and Image Fusion Techniques;
- Image Segmentation, Registration, and Classification;
- Image-Guided Interventions and Therapy Monitoring;
- Wearable Imaging Devices and Portable Diagnostic Sensors;
- Novel Materials and Hardware Platforms for Biomedical Imaging and Sensing.
We encourage submissions from researchers, engineers, and clinicians working at the intersection of biomedical innovation and AI. Manuscripts that emphasize translational research and clinical validation or demonstrate real-world applicability are particularly welcome.
We look forward to receiving your contributions and advancing the frontiers of AI-enabled biomedical engineering together.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
