Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Living with a chronic physical condition often requires continuous psychological and emotional adjustment, as long-term illness can substantially influence mental health, well-being, and overall quality of life. Individuals facing chronic diseases may experience persistent emotional challenges such as emotional exhaustion, loss of motivation, low mood, or feelings of uncertainty, which can interfere with daily functioning and negatively affect illness management. The psychological burden associated with chronic illness may also extend to family members and caregivers, influencing the quality of support provided and the course of disease management. Although healthcare professionals play a key role in addressing both physical and psychological needs, time and resource constraints often limit the support that can be offered.
For these reasons, there is a growing need for effective strategies aimed at reducing psychological distress and promoting emotional well-being among people living with chronic diseases. The development and evaluation of such interventions require not only theoretical and clinical advancements, but also robust psychological assessment approaches. Reliable and valid measurement tools are essential for identifying psychological needs, guiding interventions, and monitoring their effectiveness over time.
This Special Issue aims to broaden knowledge on emotional support in chronic disease by welcoming contributions focused on psychological interventions as well as studies addressing psychological assessment, including the development, adaptation, and validation of instruments used in chronic illness contexts.
