Dear Colleagues,
Submissions are open to this Special Issue on Bactericidal and Virucidal Surfaces for Preventing the Spread of Infectious Diseases.
The importance of antimicrobial and virucidal surfaces has risen in recent years. Nosocomial infections are a well-known problem, causing an estimated number of around 1.7 million infections and around 100.000 deaths per year. Antimicrobial coatings and materials can be used on surfaces such as touch screens, door handles, furniture, and on all the medical devices than can transmit an infection. Moreover, the spread of COVID-19 has made it evident that viral infections could also be spread through surfaces. It is thus important to extend the topic of research not only to bacteria but also to viral contamination.
The aim of this issue is to collect research papers and reviews focusing on state-of-the-art antibacterial and antiviral surfaces, on their preparation–functionalization, and on their efficiency in preventing the spread of infections. Communications, research papers, and reviews are welcome.
