5th Anniversary of 'Marine Science and Engineering' Section—Recent Advances in Marine Science

This special issue belongs to the section “Marine Science and Engineering“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In an era where the oceans are crucial to global sustainability, marine sciences and engineering are at the forefront of addressing some of the most pressing challenges of our time. The sustainable use of marine resources, the impact of climate change on ocean systems, and the advancement of marine technologies are critical areas that require continuous innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

This Special Issue marks the fifth anniversary of the Marine Science and Engineering Section of Applied Sciences. To celebrate this milestone, we invite high-quality submissions that present recent advances, emerging technologies, and innovative solutions in marine science and engineering. This Special Issue aims to highlight contributions that support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to ocean conservation (SDG 14), climate action (SDG 13), sustainable industry and innovation (SDG 9), and clean energy solutions (SDG 7).

We welcome original research, review articles, and applied case studies that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Marine biotechnology and bioresources;
  • Sustainable marine resource management;
  • Ocean monitoring and remote sensing technologies;
  • Advances in marine chemistry and chemical oceanography;
  • Coastal engineering and resilience strategies;
  • Marine renewable energy and offshore engineering;
  • Climate change impacts on marine ecosystems;
  • Innovations in aquaculture and sustainable fisheries;
  • Marine pollution mitigation and bioremediation;
  • Digital and AI-driven approaches for marine sciences;
  • Advances in physical and geological oceanography;
  • Emerging challenges and solutions in marine conservation.

This Special Issue provides an opportunity to showcase cutting-edge research that contributes to the sustainable development of marine environments, fosters technological advancements, and enhances our understanding of oceanic systems. We look forward to your contributions, which will help shape the future of marine sciences and engineering.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
