Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The large-scale development of marine renewable energy is a key pathway for energy transition. Floating photovoltaics, floating wind turbines, and offshore platforms are expanding into deeper, more distant waters. They face challenges such as wave loads, multi-body coupling, and corrosion fatigue. Accurate assessment of structural performance and safety management is urgently needed. Digital twin technology offers a transformative solution. Through dynamic mapping between virtual models and physical assets, and by integrating monitoring data, numerical simulation, and artificial intelligence, it enables structural response prediction, risk warning, and optimized operation and maintenance decisions.

This Special Issue focuses on structural performance studies and on the development of digital twin systems for offshore structures. Topics of interest include fluid–structure interaction, dynamic response, fatigue assessment, data-driven and physics-informed modeling, intelligent operation and maintenance, and virtual-reality mapping and validation.

This Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge research findings, promote the transition of digital twin technology from theory to reliable marine engineering applications, and support the sustainable development of deep-sea renewable energy.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
