Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nowadays, the growing global population and the reduction in arable areas are challenges in the field of agriculture. At the same time, excessive food waste generation compromises resource management and sustainable development goals. An alternative to meeting the food supply using a sustainable approach is the efficient use of waste and by-products. The application of circular economy principles is important to reach a clean environment and a zero-waste approach. Strategies for agricultural waste management can prevent adverse environmental and health impacts. The nutritional composition of by-products must be explored once bioactive compounds or phytochemicals are associated with potential health benefits. The application of innovative, economical viable, and eco-friendly techniques must be investigated to generate high value-added products from agroindustrial waste.

Therefore, it is our pleasure to invite you to contribute your research article, communication, or review to this Special Issue dedicated to the application of new management strategies for agricultural waste and by-products, aiming to reach environmental sustainability.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
