Dear Colleagues,
Remote sensing has entered a new era in which massive, multi-source, and multi-scale observations are continuously acquired from satellite, airborne, UAV, and ground-based platforms. Meanwhile, advances in computer vision and artificial intelligence are reshaping how remote sensing data are enhanced, interpreted, and transformed into actionable geospatial knowledge. However, complex imaging conditions, heterogeneous sensors, limited annotations, domain shifts, and the demand for trustworthy models still challenge robust visual understanding in real-world remote sensing applications.
This Special Issue aims to provide a timely forum for methodological innovations, benchmark studies, and practical applications that bridge remote sensing science with visual understanding, particularly in image processing and pattern recognition, data fusion and assimilation, multi/hyperspectral sensing, active sensing, geometric reconstruction, change detection, and applications across environmental, urban, agricultural, ecological, oceanic, atmospheric, and disaster-related domains.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, technical notes, communications, perspectives, benchmark/data papers, and application-oriented studies. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Image restoration, super-resolution, dehazing, denoising, pansharpening, and cloud removal;
- Multimodal, multisensor, multitemporal, and cross-resolution data fusion;
- Land-cover/land-use classification, scene recognition, and change analysis;
- Object detection, recognition, semantic segmentation, instance segmentation, panoptic segmentation, and 3D segmentation;
- Foundation models, self-/weakly supervised learning, domain adaptation, few-shot learning, interpretable and uncertainty-aware models;
- Efficient/on-board processing, and visual understanding for Earth observation applications.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
