Security and Privacy in Complicated Computing Environments

Dear Colleagues,

Complicated Computing Environments refer to systems or infrastructures that involve multiple interconnected components, technologies, and processes, making them complex in terms of design, management, and operation. These environments often consist of a mixture of hardware, software, networking, and data management systems, and they require careful coordination to ensure that all elements work together effectively. Typical complicated computing environments include cloud/edge computing platforms, internet of things systems, distributed intelligent systems, and so on.

In our increasingly interconnected world, reliance on complex computing environments has surged, driven by advancements in technology, integration of internet of things (IoT) devices, cloud computing migration, and the proliferation of digital services. As we embrace the advantages of these intricate infrastructures—such as improved efficiency, scalability, and data sharing—we simultaneously confront formidable challenges in security and privacy. These challenges include rapid computing paradigm evolution, increased connectivity and interoperability between different software and hardware, various regulatory requirements according to different industries and regions, and so on.

This Special Issue aims to shed light on the multifarious aspects of security and privacy within complicated computing environments. We seek contributions that explore theoretical insights, practical applications, and innovative solutions to contemporary issues. We invite researchers and practitioners to share their findings, case studies, and technological advancements that can contribute to a deeper understanding of the "Complicated Computing Environments" generally refer to scenarios in which the computing infrastructure, software stack, or the nature of the tasks being executed are complex, heterogeneous, or dynamic. These environments often involve multiple layers of abstraction, diverse hardware and software components, distributed systems, and various interconnected services or applications.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
