Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most urgent global health challenges, with a particularly strong impact on children. Pediatric wards represent unique clinical settings, where antibiotics are frequently prescribed to manage severe infections in vulnerable patients. While these treatments are essential, they may also contribute to the emergence and spread of resistant microorganisms, often as a result of inappropriate or excessive use. The consequences include increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs and a reduction in effective therapeutic options.
This Special Issue of Antibiotics focuses on antibiotic resistance and antimicrobial use in pediatric wards. Our aim is to highlight current knowledge and promote innovative approaches to improve clinical practice. We welcome contributions that explore the following topics:
- Surveillance of resistance patterns in pediatric populations;
- Antibiotic prescribing behaviors and their determinants;
- Pediatric-specific antimicrobial stewardship interventions;
- Diagnostic innovations that guide targeted therapy;
- Clinical, microbiological, and policy-related perspectives.
Original research articles, reviews, and meta-analyses are encouraged. By gathering multidisciplinary expertise, this Special Issue seeks to provide valuable insights into how antimicrobial resistance can be effectively addressed in pediatric care.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Antibiotics is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs).
