Dear Colleagues,
The global escalation of multi-drug-resistant organisms (MDROs) represents one of the most critical threats to modern clinical medicine and public health. As traditional antimicrobial options dwindle, understanding the intricate interplay between transmission dynamics and the molecular evolution of resistance has become paramount. This Special Issue, “Epidemiology and Genomics of Multidrug-Resistant Organisms: Understanding Transmission and Resistance Mechanisms,” aims to bridge the gap between clinical observation and high-resolution genomic insights.
We invite original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and short communications that explore the cutting edge of MDRO research. The scope includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Genomic surveillance and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) for outbreak investigation;
- Molecular mechanisms of novel resistance genes and their horizontal gene transfer (HGT) pathways;
- The impact of mobile genetic elements on the fitness and dissemination of pathogens such as carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), Acinetobacter baumannii, and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE);
- Integrative approaches combining clinical epidemiology with genomic data to optimize infection control strategies.
By synthesizing multi-disciplinary evidence, this Special Issue seeks to provide a platform for advancing our understanding of how MDROs persist and spread in both healthcare and community settings.
