Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The circulation of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and potentially virulent microorganisms along the agrifood supply chain raises serious public health concerns. From a One Health perspective and in line with the objectives of the WHO Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance, studies assessing the presence of foodborne pathogens in farms, slaughterhouses, and retail markets are essential. This Special Issue of Antibiotics focuses on evaluating the presence and dissemination of foodborne MDR pathogens throughout food chains. A comprehensive understanding of their epidemiology, through a "farm-to-fork" approach, will enable the design of targeted strategies to mitigate risks across the entire chain. Contributions are welcome on food chain epidemiological studies and research that support coordinated interventions, such as prudent antimicrobial stewardship, enhanced biosecurity along the food chain, and improved management and treatment of slaughterhouse wastewater. All contributions should be aimed at preventing or reducing the spread of MDR microorganisms in the food chain, mitigating the associated public health risks.
