Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Advances in pathogenic mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for veterinary pathogens remain a high priority for global animal health, food safety, and public health. Many veterinary pathogens continue to evolve, exhibiting altered virulence and antimicrobial resistance. These changes pose persistent challenges to disease prevention and control, livestock production, animal welfare, and mitigation of zoonotic risks. Although substantial progress has been made, findings are often dispersed across disciplines, making it difficult to obtain an integrated understanding of pathogen biology, host-pathogen interactions, emerging anti-infective agents, and effective intervention strategies.
Building on the successful first edition of this Special Issue, the second edition seeks to bring together high-quality original research articles, reviews, and short communications that address recent advances in veterinary infectious diseases. Topics of interest include pathogenic and host response mechanisms, antimicrobial resistance, novel therapeutic targets, natural product- and phytochemical-derived antimicrobials, alternative treatment approaches, and preventive interventions against veterinary pathogens. By consolidating cutting-edge research from investigators worldwide, this Special Issue builds upon the achievements of the first edition, identifies emerging directions, and promotes translational research for the prevention and control of infectious diseases in animals.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
