Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The global poultry industry is at a critical juncture. With the ongoing pressure to reduce antibiotic growth promoters (AGPs) and address antimicrobial resistance, maintaining optimal gut health has become the cornerstone of sustainable and efficient poultry production. The intestinal tract is now understood as a dynamic ecosystem where nutrition, the commensal microbiome, and the host immune system interact to determine overall bird health, welfare, and performance.

This Special Issue, “Novel Feed Additives for Poultry Gut Health and Microbiome Modulation,” aims to bring together cutting-edge research that explores innovative dietary strategies to support this delicate equilibrium.

This Issue focuses on the evaluation of novel and next-generation feed additives and their impact on the intestinal health of poultry (broilers, layers, turkeys). The core interest lies in understanding how these additives influence the structure and function of the gut microbiome and, in turn, how these modulations translate into measurable improvements in bird health and productivity.

We welcome original research articles, reviews, and short communications covering a broad spectrum of innovative interventions, including but not limited to, the following:

(1) Novel probiotics, synbiotics, and postbiotics.

(2) Phytogenic additives and essential oils.

(3) Bacteriophages and their enzymes for pathogen control.

(4) Exogenous enzymes and novel prebiotics.

(5) Organic acids and functional minerals.

(6) Studies on synergistic effects of additive combinations.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
