Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Companion animal surgery has undergone significant evolution over the past decade, driven by advances in surgical techniques, anesthetic protocols, and perioperative therapeutic strategies. As expectations for improved functional recovery, oncologic control, and overall quality of life continue to rise, modern veterinary surgery increasingly emphasizes evidence-based decision-making and comprehensive perioperative optimization.
Recent developments in orthopedic and oncologic surgery, including refined reconstruction techniques, improved tumor management strategies, and minimally invasive approaches, have expanded treatment possibilities for companion animals. At the same time, multimodal analgesia, enhanced perioperative monitoring, and patient-tailored anesthetic management have become essential components in improving surgical outcomes and reducing complications.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances in companion animal surgery and perioperative therapeutic strategies that contribute to safer procedures, optimized recovery, and improved long-term outcomes. This topic aligns closely with the scope of Animals, particularly in promoting animal welfare, clinical innovation, and translational research in veterinary medicine.
We welcome original research articles, clinical studies, systematic reviews, and expert perspectives addressing areas such as orthopedic surgery, surgical oncology, perioperative medicine, multimodal pain management, anesthetic optimization, surgical outcome assessment, and recovery-enhancing strategies.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Animals is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
