Intelligent Sensing and Edge AI-Driven Systems for Precision Agriculture

This special issue belongs to the section “Artificial Intelligence and Digital Agriculture“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Due to innovations in artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), edge-AI, and automation/robotics, which aim to improve productivity and quality, agriculture has advanced to smart agriculture. With the increasing demand for smart solutions, edge computing has gained momentum due to the need to move computation close to data sources. The increasing number of connected devices is also generating a significant volume of raw data directly on the edge. It is here that AI is promoting the real-time transformation of data. Powerful computational infrastructure and associated data analytics techniques have also played an instrumental role in enhancing robustness and reliability and expanding the practical application of sensing, edge-AI, and control technologies in all aspects of production agriculture. This Special Issue aims to promote a deeper understanding of major conceptual and technical challenges and facilitate breakthroughs in sensing, computer vision, edge-AI, and control systems for smart farming. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to, the following topics:

  • Computer vision for agricultural automation and control
  • Edge-AI-enabled monitoring and decision support systems
  • Computer vision systems for plant phenotyping
  • IoT-based sensing for intelligent automation and controls
  • Edge-centric collaborative learning for smart farming
  • Optimization of real-time AI-based solutions on the edge

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
