Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The open access journal Agriculture (IF: 3.6) is pleased to announce the launch of a new Special Issue entitled “Advancing Sustainable Management in Mediterranean Orchards.”

Mediterranean agroecosystems contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the region, supporting millions of livelihoods and sustaining rural communities; however, in recent decades, the sustainability of these crops has been increasingly threatened by climate change and the challenges associated with it, including water scarcity, soil degradation, and the rising incidence of pests and diseases. These pressures underscore the urgent need to adopt sustainable management strategies that can ensure the long-term resilience, productivity, and environmental integrity of orchard systems.

The aim of this Special Issue is to highlight research and innovative practices that advance the sustainability of Mediterranean orchards. We invite, therefore, contributions that address both long-term sustainability transitions and short-term adaptive solutions, integrating recent technological, agronomic, and ecological developments.

Research articles, communications, and review papers are all welcome, and we particularly encourage submissions related to, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation practices;
  • Agroecological and biodiversity approaches;
  • Circular economy strategies and residue valorization;
  • Physiological, biochemical, and environmental responses of orchard species to stress;
  • Sustainable soil and water management strategies;
  • Integrated pest and disease management;
  • Technological innovations for orchard sustainability.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Agriculture is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
