Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The integration of flexible and stretchable electronic components with soft actuators and wearable technology has emerged as a transformative force in modern engineering and healthcare, driving innovations that bridge the gap between human–machine interaction, personalized medicine and smart functionality. Global trends toward miniaturization, comfort and adaptability have elevated the demand for systems that can conform to dynamic surfaces, withstand mechanical deformation and deliver reliable performance in real-world scenarios—from wearable health monitors and rehabilitation devices to soft robotic grippers and adaptive textiles. However, researchers face critical challenges, including balancing mechanical stretchability with electrical stability, ensuring long-term durability under repeated deformation, optimizing energy efficiency for portable applications and achieving seamless integration between sensing, actuation and control modules. These challenges underscore the timeliness of this research area, as breakthroughs here will unlock unprecedented potential for both academic advancement and practical solutions that enhance quality of life and industrial productivity.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to flexible and stretchable electronic components (including sensors and pressure sensors) in soft actuators and wearable technology. We consider contributions addressing theoretical innovations, experimental developments and real-world applications that push the boundaries of material science, mechanical design and system integration in this interdisciplinary field.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
[Topic 1] Novel materials and fabrication techniques for flexible/stretchable sensors and pressure sensors;
[Topic 2] Design and optimization of soft actuators integrated with stretchable electronic components;
[Topic 3] Mechanical and electrical stability enhancement of flexible electronics under dynamic deformation;
[Topic 4] Wearable health monitoring devices with flexible pressure sensors and soft actuation;
[Topic 5] Sensing-actuation control strategies for wearable and soft robotic systems.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Actuators is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
