2012	The inaugural issue was released.
2015	IJGI was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), starting with Volume 1 (Issue 1).
2016	IJGI adopted a monthly publication schedule. IJGI received its first Impact Factor (0.651), ranked 26/28 in “Remote Sensing”. IJGI was indexed in Scopus (Elsevier), starting with Volume 1 (Issue 1).
2017	IJGI received its 2016 Impact Factor (1.502). IJGI received its first CiteScore (2016) of 1.8, ranked 19/32 in “Computers in Earth Sciences”.
2018	IJGI received its 2017 Impact Factor (1.723), ranked 18/30 in "Remote Sensing". IJGI received its 2017 CiteScore (2.10).
2019	IJGI received its 2018 Impact Factor (1.840), ranked 19/30 in "Remote Sensing". IJGI received its 2018 CiteScore (3.0).
2020	IJGI announced the first Jack Dangermond Award between 2017–2019. The Impact Factor increased to 2.239, ranked 18/30 in "Remote Sensing". The CiteScore increased to 3.80.
2021	IJGI received its 2020 Impact Factor (2.899), ranked 19/32 in "Remote Sensing". IJGI received its 2020 CiteScore (4.6).
2022	The year 2022 marked the 10th Anniversary of IJGI. IJGI received its 2021 Impact Factor (3.099), ranked 24/50 (Q2) in "Geography, Physical". The CiteScore increased to 5.0, ranked 97/747 (Q1) in "Geography, Planning and Development". IJGI announced the 2nd Jack Dangermond Award 2020–2021.
2023	The Impact Factor increased to 3.4, ranked 18/49 (Q2) in "Geography, Physical". The CiteScore increased to 6.2, ranked 15/72 (Q1) in "Computers in Earth Sciences".
2024	IJGI received its 2023 Impact Factor (2.8), ranked 29/63 (Q2) in "Remote Sensing". IJGI received its 2023 CiteScore (6.9), ranked 92/821 (Q1) in “Geography, Planning and Development”.
2025	IJGI received its 2024 CiteScore (7.2), ranked 18/179 (Q1) in "Earth and Planetary Sciences (miscellaneous)". IJGI received its 2024 Impact Factor (2.8), ranked 25/67 (Q2) in "Geography, Physical".
