MDPI has been celebrating the 25th Anniversary this year of 2021 [1]. It becomes one of the top four scholarly journal publishers of the world [2,3]. To expand further the open access publishing project of MDPI, we are still in the process of launching many new journals. Based on our success in publishing journals that represent important topics related to medicine and health, such as Pathogens [4], Viruses [5], Diseases [6], Biomedicines [7], Pharmaceuticals [8], Antibiotics [9] and Vaccines [10], we are launching a new journal entitled Zoonoses (ISSN 2673-9968). It is an open access journal that offers substantial new insight into infectious diseases transmitted between animals and humans. Caused by various pathogens, zoonotic diseases can lead to many types of illnesses from mild to severe and even death [11]. Scientists are working hard to search for the origin of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) [12]. COVID-19 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-CoV-2 is closely related to the virus SARS-CoV. It is thought to have an animal (zoonotic) origin [13]. Zoonoses [14] will be a timely new journal added as a forum for these scientific discussions. We welcome the broad research community with expertise in microbiology, virology, parasitology and epidemiology to contribute to the development of this platform with the shared goal of accelerating the advancement of scientific knowledge on the sources, transmission, prevention and control of zoonotic diseases.
We will maintain the same fast and rigorous peer review process [15] for this new journal that you have grown accustomed to through our other publications. I hope you enjoy publishing with us.
