Cover Story: The cytology of classic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is characterized by malignant cells that look like hepatocytes. Furthermore, clusters of trabecular growth partially lined by endothelial cells with elongated nuclei are the rule in HCC and exception in metastatic tumors. These characteristic cytologic features interpreted with clinical information can justify the diagnosis of metastatic HCC, especially in rare sites in case histopathology fails to play its expected role as in our patients.
