Cover Story: Feature extraction is an indispensable process of traditional egocentric video analysis. Local feature descriptors have been widely applied due to their simple implementation, and reasonable efficiency and performance in applications, such as memory aid systems and physical rehabilitation. This paper proposes an enhanced spatial and temporal local feature descriptor extraction approach with the support of saliency maps, for performance enhancement in egocentric activity recognition. The experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach through a comparative study. View this paper.
