We have completed another exciting year at Electronics, especially in the “Optoelectronics” section, and we are facing new challenges in 2024. The broad scope of the section’s content, and the close interaction between the Editorial Office staff, editors and authors, remain valuable and unique strengths. We aim to present advances across the whole range of research in Optoelectronics, as evidenced by the mix of papers published in this section of Electronics. We received manuscripts from around the world, with submissions from authors based in several countries being accepted for publication. China remains the country contributing the greatest number of accepted submissions, with Spain, the UK, Portugal and Italy being the next most frequently featured author countries. We are very proud of the efforts made by our Editorial Office team and Board Members in providing our authors with a thorough and constructive peer review process in a very short timeframe. We still aim to reduce these times as much as possible in the pursuit of speeding up the communication of research, not just for publications in Optoelectronics. By giving authors a fast rejection decision, it is our hope that they will find other relevant journals for their work, or can rectify any necessary issues, as soon as possible.
In the year 2023, we saw the introduction of new Editorial Board Members to the Optoelectronics team: Prof. Dr. Xumin Ding, Dr. Jie Wei, Prof. Dr. Weimin Sun, Prof. Dr. Hirokazu Kobayashi, Prof. Dr. Sonia Leva, Dr. Wasiu O. Popoola, Prof. Dr. Martin Reisslein, Dr. Wenzhuo Wu, Prof. Dr. Wei Xu and Dr. Baiquan Liu.
The Optoelectronics section has shown growth over the last three years, thanks to the vision of the Editorial Board, the sustained hard work of the reviewers and the trust that the authors have extended in choosing the Optoelectronics section of Electronics to publish their outstanding scientific research.
Key performance indices:
- The number of manuscript submissions in 2023 was 80.
- The papers published in 2023 increased to 51, an increase of 24% compared to 2022.
- A total of 12 Special Issues were published within the Optoelectronics section in 2023; these were very comprehensive and included review articles, original research and case reports in the field.

We extend our sincere thanks to our authors, reviewers, Editorial Board Members and staff for everything they have contributed and for believing in open access science. It is your contributions that will help enable a way forward for this planet and its people. We are proud to work alongside you and look forward to continuing to do so as we face all the challenges of the near future together.
