Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper proposed a tactile recognition method based on the energy and nonstationary volatility (ENSV) and adaptive recognition boundary model (ARBM) for recognizing shrimp with and without shells on automatic peeling machines.

The problems this paper studied originate from engineering practice, and the proposed methods and conclusions are instructive to the engineering practice.

However, I have the following problems:

(1) The points in Figure 6 are real data or sketch map? In formula (12) and (14), why circle is selected as the boundary of two types of data? Or, why the boundary of two types of data is circle? Can the author give some engineering explanation about of the boundary shape?

(2) In Figure 7, the waveforms of shrimp with and without shells are difference, and this is the base of recognition. Can the author give some explanation about the physical mechanism causing the different waveforms of shrimp with and without shells?

I think this article may accept after giving supplementary explanations to the above questions.

(1)Figure 1a did not clearly describe the working principal scheme, I did not understand;

(2)In line120:“The data acquisition starts at 2000 ms after the laser sensor is triggered.” why data acquisition starts at 2000 ms? In line121: "sampling frequency of the analog signal of the tactile sensor was set to 1300 Hz" Why sampling frequency was set to 1300 Hz?

(3)In Figure 4a, the ordinate unit is not clear.

(4)In this paper, a tactile sensor was developed. However, the results of shrimp's attributes, such as hardness, size, weight, etc, was not found. I think these are very important.

(5)In table2, only Macrobrachium rosenbergii shrimps was used to used to verify the accuracy of the results, For other kinds of shrimp?
