Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The work should be experimentally validated.

Clarify the Variation pattern of Temperature (in Figure 7b) with literature support.

Couldn't find a relation of Ti-6Al-4V alloy in Abstract, Results and Discussion, and Conclusion?

Reviewer 2 Report

It is an original modeling work entitled ‘Simulation study of thermal-mechanical coupling fretting wear of Ti-6Al-4V alloy’. It is quite well organized and its language is very satisfactory.

However, there are some issues which should be corrected or improved, prior to acceptance for publication.

For instance, what do the authors mean by ‘4.1 Effect of material plastic on wear and temperature rise? Do they mean material plasticity or something else. This should be better clarified. This term material plastic’ should be clearly defined throughout the manuscript everywhere up to the conclusion section.

Apparently no experiments have been conducted to support the results of the current modeling study.

Moreover, after the following sentence in Introduction Section: ‘Then, a coupled temperature-displacement finite element model for calculating the fretting wear was developed based on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy fretting test.’, a sentence discussing why Ti-6Al-4V alloy was chosen for the current study should be added, for instance:As the most of Ti-alloys [27-31], Ti-6Al-4V alloy possesses good high temperature properties and a high Youngs modulus and that is why it was selected for this study.’ and some relevant papers discussing the mechanical properties of Ti-alloys, should be included into the discussion and cited’. For example the papers below or others discussing the mechanical properties of Ti-alloys including Ti64:

Thus change the number of the rest of the references (beginning from the number 27 in the original reference the list) accordingly.

Apart from these issues the manuscript seems OK.
