Collection of VKM Paleofungi
Abstract
:1. Introduction
- When thawing rocks, paleomicroorganisms, and particularly fungi, can be involved in modern biogeochemical processes, affecting the cycles of elements and providing an additional flow of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. In this regard, it is very important to assess the number and taxonomic diversity of microorganisms that have remained viable in permafrost during geological time.
- The problem of low-temperature conservation of microorganisms in nature is very important for basic science due to the need to establish mechanisms for keeping organisms viable for a long time.
