Topic Information

Dear Colleagues,

This thematic Topic seeks to showcase cutting-edge advances at the convergence of biochemistry, immunology, and diagnostic innovation in infectious diseases. In an era marked by emerging pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, and rapidly evolving variants, there is a critical need to deepen our molecular understanding and translate these insights into effective clinical tools.

We invite contributions that elucidate the biochemical foundations of pathogen biology, including metabolic pathways, structural dynamics, and host–pathogen interactions that drive virulence, persistence, and therapeutic response. Emphasis is also placed on immunological breakthroughs, spanning innate sensing mechanisms, antibody and T-cell immunity, mucosal responses, immune evasion strategies, and next-generation vaccine design.

Equally important are advances in diagnostics that enable rapid, sensitive, and accessible detection. Topics of interest include molecular and serological assays, biosensor technologies, multi-omics platforms, artificial intelligence-assisted diagnostics, and biomarker discovery for early and precise disease identification.

This Topic welcomes original research, comprehensive reviews, and methodological studies that bridge basic science and clinical application. By integrating biochemical insights, immune profiling, and innovative therapeutic and diagnostic approaches, this collection aims to accelerate translational research and support improved surveillance, prevention, and management of infectious diseases globally.

Preprints.org is a multidisciplinary platform offering a preprint service designed to facilitate the early sharing of your research. It supports and empowers your research journey from the very beginning.

MDPI Topics is collaborating with Preprints.org and has established a direct connection between MDPI journals and the platform. Authors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by posting their preprints at Preprints.org prior to publication:

  1. Share your research immediately: disseminate your ideas prior to publication and establish priority for your work.
  2. Safeguard your intellectual contribution: Protect your ideas with a time-stamped preprint that serves as proof of your research timeline.
  3. Boost visibility and impact: Increase the reach and influence of your research by making it accessible to a global audience.
  4. Gain early feedback: Receive valuable input and insights from peers before submitting to a journal.
  5. Ensure broad indexing: Web of Science (Preprint Citation Index), Google Scholar, Crossref, SHARE, PrePubMed, Scilit and Europe PMC.
