Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue explores the integration of mechanical-driven energy harvesting within the broader ecosystem of sustainable energy and zero-emission mobility. While mechanical harvesting is often associated with micro-scale electronics, its potential to enhance the efficiency of large-scale systems is rapidly expanding.
We seek contributions that investigate how mechanical energy recovery—from vehicle dynamics, infrastructure stress, and industrial fluid flows—can be leveraged to support Electric Vehicle (EV) performance and the production/processing of Green Fuels (such as green hydrogen and biofuels). This issue aims to highlight multidisciplinary research that bridges the gap between mechanical transduction and the chemical/electrical energy needs of a carbon-neutral future.
Research topics that are of interest for this Special Issue include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Green Fuel Synthesis: Harvesting ambient vibrations/flows to power-decentralized electrolysis for green hydrogen and/or biomass converters.
- EV Efficiency and Range: Advanced regenerative systems (suspension, braking, and tire–road interaction) for battery-electric and fuel-cell vehicles.
- Renewable Energy Assets: Self-powered monitoring and performance optimization for wind, wave, and hydropower infrastructure.
- Transduction for Green Tech: Innovations in piezoelectric, triboelectric (TENG), and electromagnetic generators tailored for harsh transport or fuel-processing environments.
- Smart Infrastructure: Energy-harvesting roadways and ports designed to support autonomous EV fleets and hydrogen-refueling stations.
- Hybrid Power Management: Circuits and storage systems for multi-source harvesting (mechanical + solar/thermal) in renewable energy clusters.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
