Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (PolSAR) image classification is one of the most important applications in remote sensing. The impressive superpixel generation approaches can improve the efficiency of the subsequent classification task and restrain the influence of the speckle noise to an extent. Most of the classical PolSAR superpixel generation approaches use the features extracted manually and even only consider the pseudocolor images. They do not make full use of polarimetric information and do not necessarily lead to good enough superpixels. The deep learning methods can extract effective deep features but they are difficult to combine with superpixel generation to achieve true end-to-end training. Addressing the above issues, this study proposes an end-to-end fully convolutional superpixel generation network for PolSAR images. It integrates the extraction of polarization information features and the generation of PolSAR superpixels into one step. PolSAR superpixels can be generated based on deep polarization feature extraction and need no traditional clustering process. Both the performance and efficiency of generations of PolSAR superpixels can be enhanced effectively. The experimental results on various PolSAR datasets show that the proposed method can achieve impressive superpixel segmentation by fitting the real boundaries of different types of ground objects effectively and efficiently. It can achieve excellent classification performance by connecting a very simple classification network, which is helpful to improve the efficiency of the subsequent PolSAR image classification tasks. The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education offers novel opportunities to enhance critical thinking while also posing challenges to independent cognitive development. In particular, Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HCAI) in education aims to enhance human experience by providing a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Rather than replacing the educator, HCAI serves as a tool that empowers both students and teachers, fostering critical thinking and autonomy in learning. This study investigates the potential for AI to become a collaborative partner that assists learning and enriches academic engagement. The research was conducted during the 2024–2025 winter semester within the Pedagogical and Teaching Sufficiency Program offered by the Audio and Visual Arts Department, Ionian University, Corfu, Greece. The research employs a hybrid ethnographic methodology that blends digital interactions—where students use AI tools to create artistic representations—with physical classroom engagement. Data was collected through student projects, reflective journals, and questionnaires, revealing that structured dialog with AI not only facilitates deeper critical inquiry and analytical reasoning but also induces a state of flow, characterized by intense focus and heightened creativity. The findings highlight a dialectic between individual agency and collaborative co-agency, demonstrating that while automated AI responses may diminish active cognitive engagement, meaningful interactions can transform AI into an intellectual partner that enriches the learning experience. These insights suggest promising directions for future pedagogical strategies that balance digital innovation with traditional teaching methods, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of education. Furthermore, the study underscores the importance of integrating reflective practices and adaptive frameworks to support evolving student needs, ensuring a sustainable model. Full article

Low-frequency (LF) time code timing technology holds significant importance in civilian applications such as radio-controlled clocks. This study focuses on the design and implementation of a high-precision Binary Phase Code (BPC) LF time code signal generator. A generator system was constructed, demonstrating good stability, superior resolution, and flexible adjustment capabilities for both amplitude and phase. The system employs an ARM + FPGA cooperative architecture: the ARM processor is responsible for parsing and scheduling the time code data, while the FPGA implements carrier wave generation and high-precision digital modulation. This digital processing is combined with analog circuitry to achieve digital-to-analog (D/A) signal conversion. Compared to traditional methods, carrier generation is achieved using Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) technology. Digital modulation techniques enable the precise control of the modulation depth (adjustable between 70% and 90%) and phase (with a resolution of 1 ns). A sliding window algorithm was utilized for time difference calculation and compensation. Testing confirmed the stability of key signal parameters, including integrity, carrier frequency and modulation depth. These results validate the feasibility and superiority of the digital LF time code generation technology proposed in this study, providing a valuable reference for the development of next-generation timing equipment. As smart homes and Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystems continue to expand, the need for energy-efficient and low-latency communication has become increasingly critical. One of the key challenges in these systems is minimizing delay time while ensuring reliable and efficient communication between devices. This study focuses on optimizing delay time in ZigBee sensor networks used in smart-home systems. A Smart–Adaptive Communication Distribution Algorithm is proposed, which dynamically adjusts the communication between network nodes based on real-time network conditions. Experimental measurements were conducted under various scenarios to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, with a particular focus on reducing delay and enhancing overall network efficiency. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm significantly reduces delay times compared to traditional methods, making it a promising solution for delay-sensitive IoT applications. The development of Industry 4.0 has accelerated the adoption of sophisticated technologies, including Digital Twins (DTs), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity, within Additive Manufacturing (AM). Enabling real-time monitoring, process optimization, predictive maintenance, and secure data management can redefine conventional manufacturing paradigms. Although their individual importance is increasing, a consistent understanding of how these technologies interact and collectively improve AM procedures is lacking. Focusing on the integration of digital twins (DTs), modular AI, and cybersecurity in AM, this review presents a comprehensive analysis of over 137 research publications from Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate. The publications are categorized into three thematic groups, followed by an analysis of key findings. Finally, the study identifies research gaps and proposes detailed recommendations along with a framework for future research. The study reveals that traditional AM processes have undergone significant transformations driven by digital threads, digital threads (DTs), and AI. However, this digitalization introduces vulnerabilities, leaving AM systems prone to cyber-physical attacks. Emerging advancements in AI, Machine Learning (ML), and Blockchain present promising solutions to mitigate these challenges. This paper is among the first to comprehensively summarize and evaluate the advancements in AM, emphasizing the integration of DTs, Modular AI, and cybersecurity strategies. Full article

Non-invasive ultrasound diagnosis, combined with deep learning, is frequently used for detecting thyroid diseases. However, real-time detection on portable devices faces limitations due to constrained computational resources, and existing models often lack sufficient capability for small object detection of thyroid nodules. To address this, this paper proposes an improved lightweight small object detection network framework called LISA-YOLO, which enhances the lightweight multi-scale collaborative fusion algorithm. The proposed framework exploits the inherent symmetrical characteristics of ultrasound images and the symmetrical architecture of the detection network to better capture and represent features of thyroid nodules. Specifically, an improved depthwise separable convolution algorithm replaces traditional convolution to construct a lightweight network (DG-FNet). Through symmetrical cross-scale fusion operations via FPN, detection accuracy is maintained while reducing computational overhead. Additionally, an improved bidirectional feature network (IMS F-NET) fully integrates the semantic and detailed information of high- and low-level features symmetrically, enhancing the representation capability for multi-scale features and improving the accuracy of small object detection. Finally, a collaborative attention mechanism (SAF-NET) uses a dual-channel and spatial attention mechanism to adaptively calibrate channel and spatial weights in a symmetric manner, effectively suppressing background noise and enabling the model to focus on small target areas in thyroid ultrasound images. Extensive experiments on two image datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves improvements of 2.3% in F1 score, 4.5% in mAP, and 9.0% in FPS, while maintaining only 2.6 M parameters and reducing GFLOPs from 6.1 to 5.8. The proposed framework provides significant advancements in lightweight real-time detection and demonstrates the important role of symmetry in enhancing the performance of ultrasound-based thyroid diagnosis. Accomplishing China’s national targets of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality necessitates proactive solutions, hinging critically on fundamentally transforming rural construction models. Current construction practices in rural areas are characterized by inefficiency, high resource consumption, and reliance on imported materials. These shortcomings not only jeopardize the attainment of climate objectives, but also hinder equitable development between urban and rural regions. Using the Digital Industrial Park in Yongtai County, Fuzhou City, as a case study, this study focuses on prefabricated public buildings in regions with extreme hot–humid climate, and innovatively integrates BIM (Building Information Modeling)-driven carbon modeling with the Gaussian Two-Step Floating Catchment Area (G2SFCA) method for spatial accessibility assessment to investigate the carbon emissions and economic benefits of prefabricated buildings during the embodied stage, and analyzes the spatial accessibility of prefabricated building material suppliers in Fuzhou City and identifies associated bottlenecks, seeking pathways to promote sustainable rural revitalization. Compared with traditional cast-in-situ buildings, embodied carbon emissions of prefabricated during their materialization phase significantly reduced. This dual-perspective approach ensures that the proposed solutions possess both technical rigor and logistical feasibility. Promoting this model across rural areas sharing similar climatic conditions would advance the construction industry’s progress towards the dual carbon goals. Full article

Road networks are essential for access, resource distribution, and population evacuation during natural events. These challenges are pronounced in rural areas, where network redundancy is limited and communities may have social disparities. While traditional risk management systems often focus on the physical consequences of hazard events alone, specialized literature increasingly suggests the development of a more comprehensive approach for risk assessment, where not only physical aspects associated with infrastructure, such as damage level or disruptions, but also the social and economic attributes of the affected population are considered. Consequently, this paper proposes a Vulnerability Access Index (VAI) to support road network decision-making that integrates the social vulnerability of rural communities exposed to natural events, their accessibility to nearby critical infrastructure, and physical risk. The research methodology considers (i) the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) calculation based on socioeconomic variables, (ii) Importance Index estimation (Iimp) to evaluate access to critical infrastructure, (iii) VAI calculation combining SVI and Iimp, and (iv) application to a case study in the influence area of the Villarrica volcano in southern Chile. The results show that when incorporating social variables and accessibility, infrastructure criticality varies significantly compared to the infrastructure criticality assessment based solely on physical risk, modifying the decision-making regarding road infrastructure robustness and resilience improvements. Temperature is a key physiological indicator of plant health, influenced by factors including water status, disease and developmental stage. Monitoring changes in multiple factors is helpful for early diagnosis of plant growth. However, there are a variety of complex light interference phenomena in the greenhouse, so traditional detection methods cannot meet effective online monitoring of strawberry health status without manual intervention. Therefore, this paper proposes a leaf soft-sensing method based on a thermal infrared imaging sensor and adaptive image screening Internet of Things system, with additional sensors to realize indirect and rapid monitoring of the health status of a large range of strawberries. Firstly, a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model is established by analyzing the environmental interference terms from the other sensors. Secondly, through the relationship between plant physiological metabolism and canopy temperature, a growth model is established to predict the growth period of strawberries based on canopy temperature. Finally, by deploying environmental sensors and solar height sensors, the image acquisition node is activated when the environmental interference is less than the specified value and the acquisition is completed. The results showed that the accuracy of this multiple sensors system was 86.9%, which is 30% higher than the traditional model and 4.28% higher than the latest advanced model. It makes it possible to quickly and accurately assess the health status of plants by a single factor without in-person manual intervention, and provides an important indication of the early, undetectable state of strawberry disease, based on remote operation. This paper discusses the integrated technology of CO2 adsorption and catalysis, which combines adsorption and catalytic conversion, simplifies the traditional process, reduces energy consumption, and improves efficiency. The traditional carbon capture technology has the problems of high energy consumption, equipment corrosion, and absorbent loss, while the integrated technology realizes the adsorption, conversion, and catalyst regeneration of CO2 in a single reaction system, avoiding complex desorption steps. Through micropore confinement and surface electron transfer mechanism, the technology improves the reactant concentration and mass transfer efficiency, reduces the activation energy, and realizes the low-temperature and high-efficiency conversion of CO2. In terms of materials, MOF-based composites, alkali metal modified oxides, and carbon-based hybrid materials show excellent performance, helping to efficiently adsorb and transform CO2. However, the design and engineering of reactors still face challenges, such as the development of new moving bed reactors. This technology provides a new idea for CO2 capture and resource utilization and has important environmental significance and broad application prospects. Full article

Nephrotic syndrome (NS) is characterized by proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, edema, and hyperlipidemia. Apart from the traditional causes of NS, such as minimal change disease, focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, diabetes, infections, malignancies, autoimmune conditions, and nephrotoxic agents, there are also rare causes of NS, whose knowledge is of the utmost importance. The aim of this article was to highlight the less well-known causes that have a significant impact on diagnosis and treatment. Genetic syndromes such as Schimke immuno-osseous dysplasia, familial lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase deficiency with two clinical variants (fish-eye Disease and the p.Leu364Pro mutation), lead to NS through mechanisms involving podocyte and lipid metabolism dysfunction. Congenital disorders of glycosylation and Nail–Patella Syndrome emphasize the role of deranged protein processing and transcriptional regulation in glomerular injury. The link of NS with type 1 diabetes, though rare, suggests an etiology on the basis of common HLA loci and immune dysregulation. Histopathological analysis, particularly electron microscopy, shows mainly podocyte damage, mesangial sclerosis, and alteration of the basement membrane, which aids in differentiating rare forms. Prompt recognition of these novel etiologies by genetic analysis, renal biopsy, and an interdisciplinary panel is essential to avoid delays in diagnosis and tailored treatment. Full article

Knowledge graph technology holds significant importance for efficient fault diagnosis in household appliances. However, the scarcity of public fault diagnosis data and the lack of automated knowledge extraction pose major challenges to knowledge graph construction. To address issues such as ambiguous entity boundaries, severe entity nesting, and poor entity extraction performance in fault diagnosis texts, this paper proposes a dual-strategy progressive knowledge extraction framework. First, to tackle the high complexity of fault diagnosis texts, an entity recognition model named RoBERTa-zh-BiLSTM-MUL-CRF is designed, improving the accuracy of nested entity extraction. Second, leveraging the semantic understanding capability of large language models, a progressive prompting strategy is adopted for ontology alignment and relation extraction, achieving automated knowledge extraction. Experimental results show that the proposed named entity recognition model outperforms traditional models, with improvements of 3.87%, 5.82%, and 2.05% in F1-score, recall, and precision, respectively. Additionally, the large language model demonstrates better performance in ontology alignment compared to traditional machine learning models. The constructed knowledge graph for household appliance fault diagnosis integrates structured fault diagnosis information. It effectively processes unstructured fault texts and supports visual queries and entity tracing. This framework can assist maintenance personnel in making rapid judgments, thereby improving fault diagnosis efficiency. Full article

The rapid development of the modern power system puts forward high requirements for economic dispatch, and the defects of the traditional centralized economic dispatch method with low security and poor optimization effect have been difficult to adapt to the development of power system. Therefore, finding an economic dispatch method that reduces electricity generation costs and CO2 emissions is important. This study establishes a multi-region distributed optimization model and combines the multi-region distributed optimization model with a multi-gradient optimization algorithm to propose a multi-region distributed multi-gradient whale optimization algorithm (MRDMGWOA). In this study, MRDMGWOA is simulated on the IEEE 39 system and 118 system, and its performance is compared with other heuristic algorithms. The results show that: (1) in the IEEE 39 system, MRDMGWOA reduces the power generation cost and CO2 emission by 17% and 22%, respectively, and reduces the computation time by 16.14 s compared with the centralized optimization; (2) in the IEEE 118 system, the two metrics are further optimized, with a 20% and 17% reduction in the cost and emission, respectively, and an improvement in the computational efficiency by 45.46 s; (3) in the spacing, hypervolume, and Euclidian metrics evaluation, MRDMGWOA outperforms other algorithms; (4) compared with the existing DMOGWO and DMOMFO, the computation time of MRDMGWOA is reduced by 177.49 s and 124.15 s, respectively, and the scheduling scheme obtained by MRDMGWOA is more optimal than DMOGWO and DMOMFO. The genus Panax contains traditional herbs that have been widely used in traditional medicine. The active constituents, collectively known as ginsenosides, are well characterized in the most representative species, P. notoginseng. However, the major bioactive chemical constituents of P. stipuleanatus together with P. vietnamensis are relatively less studied. In this study, an untargeted metabolomic analysis was performed in P. notoginseng, P. stipuleanatus, and P. vietnamensis using root and leaf organs. Further metabolomic differences in P. stipuleanatus were compared with those of the two most prevalent species. The analysis results revealed tissue-specific qualitative and quantitative metabolic differences in each species. Several differentially accumulated metabolites were enriched in the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, including the biosynthesis of ginsenosides I. The ginsenosides Rb1, Rf, Rg1, Rh1, Rh8, and notoginsenosides E, M, and N had a higher abundance level in the roots of both P. notoginseng and P. vietnamensis. In P. stipuleanatus, the accumulation of potentially important ginsenosides is mainly found in the leaf. In particular, the dammarane-type ginsenosides Rb3, Rb1, Mx, and F2 as well as the notoginsenosides A, Fe, Fa, Fd, L, and N were identified to have a higher accumulation in the leaf. The strong positive correlation network of different ginsenosides probably enhanced secondary metabolism in each species. The comparative analysis revealed a significant differential accumulation of metabolites in the leaves of both species. The various compounds of dammarane-type ginsenoside, such as Rb1, Rg1, Rg6, Rh8, Rh10, Rh14, and majoroside F2, had a significantly higher concentration level in the leaves of P. stipuleanatus. In addition, several notoginsenoside compounds such as A, R1, Fe, Fd, and Ft1 showed a higher abundance in the leaf. These results show that the abundance level of major ginsenosides is significant in P. stipuleanatus and provides an important platform to improve the ginsenoside quality of Panax species.
