Shading system design is a complex, multi-objective optimization problem that requires balancing interdependent economic, environmental, social, energy, architectural, and daylighting factors, while also integrating decision-makers’ preferences and user satisfaction. This study aims to develop and validate a hybrid decision-support framework that addresses both quantitative and qualitative data under uncertainty to improve shading system performance. This paper proposes a novel framework that integrates fuzzy logic with multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. The Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy-AHP) is employed for criteria prioritization, whereas the Fuzzy Quality Function Deployment (Fuzzy-QFD) translates customer needs into technical requirements. Two evolutionary algorithms, the Single-Objective Genetic Algorithm (SOGA) and the Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm II (NSGA-II), were implemented and compared. The framework was validated through its application to an existing educational building in Mansoura, Egypt, evaluating both fixed and dynamic shading solutions. The results indicate that the proposed framework effectively translates customer requirements into design criteria and accurately identifies optimal shading solutions, with SOGA outperforming NSGA-II in optimization performance, while dynamic shading systems significantly enhance glare control and visual comfort, thereby confirming the framework’s efficiency in managing interdependent objectives under uncertain conditions. Overall, the framework provides a robust and systematic methodology for incorporating customer satisfaction into shading design and advancing sustainable building performance. Full article

Contemporary cities and metropolises, as complex spatial and social structures, require innovative tools for promotion, education, and the identification of development potential. The search for such tools prompted the authors to conduct the research. This article attempts to assess the effectiveness of urban and metropolitan games as tools of territorial marketing and as means of supporting spatial education and social participation. The research is based on the analysis of 42 games with urban and metropolitan themes, selected according to defined criteria. Both qualitative and quantitative research methods were applied, including documentation analysis, comparative analysis techniques, statistical methods, case studies, and coding of games across seven parameters (dimensions), using five descriptors (coded 1–5) per parameter. The research results indicate a high diversity among the analyzed games in terms of structure, function, and application. The proposed typology of games allowed for an in-depth, systematic comparison. The identification of five typological clusters allowed for an assessment of the advantages and limitations of individual game forms. This provided data on the suitability of individual game types for various purposes, including their application in territorial marketing and urban education. The findings confirm that urban and metropolitan games can play a significant role in building spatial awareness, supporting planning processes, and promoting urban areas. They represent an innovative tool supporting the sustainable development of cities and metropolises, particularly in the areas of resident engagement in decision-making processes, collaboration between authorities, residents, and non-governmental organizations, planning with consideration for future generations, as well as fostering—even among the younger generation—a sense of shared responsibility for urban space and the decisions undertaken. In the Mediterranean Basin, increasing water scarcity, exacerbated by climate change, necessitates the use of alternative water resources in agriculture. This study analyses farmers’ propensity to use reclaimed wastewater for irrigation in Basilicata, a region in southern Italy. Through a survey of 167 farms and the application of a logit model, this work quantifies the role of the main factors influencing farmers’ propensity to use this new resource. The results identify several key drivers and barriers. A higher level of education and participation in Producers’ Organisations make wastewater use approximately ten times (odds ratio equal to 9.84) and five times (odds ratio equal 4.96) more likely, respectively. Furthermore, an adequate knowledge of the relevant legislation nearly quadruples (odds ratio equal to 3.57) the likelihood of adoption. In contrast, concerns related to worker health and groundwater pollution are strong deterrents, reducing the odds of adoption by 90% and 87%, respectively. Concerns about product quality also significantly decrease the propensity to adopt (odds ratio equal to 0.25). The findings underscore the need for integrated interventions that enhance farmers’ awareness and knowledge of the characteristics and impacts of new practices, thereby fostering the innovative and sustainable management of water resources. Education can play a pivotal role in the eradication of energy poverty by facilitating the transfer of knowledge and skills to all interested stakeholders whilst also promoting the adoption of sustainable energy solutions. In the context of this paper, a comprehensive review of European master’s programs related to energy poverty is carried out, resulting in the identification of approximately of 100 programs across seven European countries that either explicitly or implicitly address the topic. In most cases, energy poverty is embedded in a broader academic discipline—such as energy systems, renewable energy, or sustainable development—rather than being treated as a standalone field. In Europe, the United Kingdom, France, Greece, and Romania were singled out as the leading contributors to energy poverty education. Within the framework of the EU-funded project “MSc in Energy Poverty Alleviation Technologies”, implemented in collaboration with South African universities, this study focuses on South Africa, which represents a characteristic example of a country facing high levels of energy poverty and significant inequalities in energy access. This work highlights the critical need for targeted academic curricula specifically designed to bridge the persistent gap between academic research and its real-world applications, particularly in regions of the world where such integration is most urgent. It also emphasizes the essential role of linking STEM education with the social and humanitarian sciences. Finally, this work underscores the need for interdisciplinary approaches that connect energy poverty alleviation and education by additionally expanding the research and documentation of relevant good initiatives from Asia (China). Ozone treatment in the food and horticulture product capitalization sectors is widely acknowledged as completely safe for human use, in accordance with the most recent rules of the relevant authorities. Ozone-generating devices for research and education are known to allow the introduction of ozone gas for many uses, especially in food and agricultural applications. Despite their usefulness, their high cost prevents them from being widely available in research and educational institutions in underdeveloped nations, limiting practical training and the development of local applications to support the capacities of the food and agriculture sectors. In this study a device was constructed to generate ozone (O3) using the high-voltage principal circuit. An Arduino board was used to accomplish the control operation. An MQ-131 ozone sensor was utilized to measure the ozone concentration with a measuring unit of (%); however, the detecting range of the MQ-131 sensor is 10~1000 ppb, so in the present study, a formula to covert the measuring units between ppm and (%) for the concentration of the generated ozone (Y) as (Y, %) = 0.0333 × (Y, ppm) was presented. Different ozone concentrations are generated by varying the high voltage level from 20 to 35 kV with an increment of 5 kV and flow rate variations of 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 L/min. It was found that ozone concentration increases with increasing applied high voltage and decreases with increasing oxygen flow rate at a fixed applied high voltage. This study uses experimental data in a multiple linear regression analysis to predict ozone concentration based on levels of high voltage and oxygen flow rate, with a coefficient of determination of 0.7686 using a testing dataset. The findings provide evidence of the viability of constructing an inexpensive ozone generator with inexpensive parts, thereby promoting sustainable technological advancement. Drawing from our research, we can highlight the educational value and cost-effective benefits of employing an ozone-generating device, which can be used to produce ozone for a variety of purposes. Biotechnology is increasingly recognized as a key driver for achieving the United Nations 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, public awareness of its role remains uncertain. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, perceptions and opinions regarding the relationship between the SDGs and biotechnology among the general adult population in Spain. A validated online survey was distributed, yielding 274 responses. Although 84.3% of the respondents were familiar with the 2030 Agenda, positive perceptions of the SDGs were especially common among women and individuals with higher levels of education. Regarding biotechnology, 54.4% considered themselves knowledgeable, and nearly half (48.2%) recognized its potential contribution to health (SDG 3) and environmental sustainability, but its role in social and economic SDGs was less recognized. This study highlights the need for targeted educational and communication strategies to raise awareness and show how concrete biotechnological applications can contribute to sustainable development. Emphasizing these practical contributions can position biotechnology as a visible driver of progress and foster greater public engagement with science in achieving the 2030 Agenda. Full article

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) is advancing rapidly and is increasingly integrated into visual communication design education. How to effectively and sustainably leverage GAI to support visual communication design teaching has thus become a critical issue faced by educators. While prior studies have focused on GAI’s impact on student learning outcomes and creativity, limited research has explored its effects on emotions and student engagement. This study aims to investigate the impact of customized GAI integration on visual communication design students’ learning engagement and to qualitatively explore the emotions that occur throughout the learning process. Using a quasi-experimental design, 96 students were randomly assigned to either a control group using traditional instruction or an experimental group using a customized GAI. Student engagement was measured using pre- and post-assessment scales, and semi-structured interviews were conducted to analyze students’ emotional changes. The results show that customized GAI integration effectively enhanced students’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement. Moreover, students experienced diverse and dynamic emotions during the learning process, which influenced their engagement. This study provides empirical support for the application of GAI in visual communication design education, highlighting the importance of balancing technology integration with emotional regulation, thereby informing the responsible and sustainable integration of GAI in design education. Organizational resilience and long-term success have become essential capabilities in turbulent and uncertain environments. This study redefines these concepts by applying a natural language analysis to a corpus of 1597 peer-reviewed publications retrieved from Web of Science and Scopus. The methodology adopts a three-level framework: first, a thematic clustering of literature into strategic domains; second, a semantic comparison of classical and emerging terms; and third, the mapping of artificial intelligence (AI) opportunities. The results identify five overarching domains: Health and Wellbeing; Organizations, HR and Leadership; Strategy, Innovation, and Culture; Education, Knowledge and Communities; and Society, Environment and Development. These domains illustrate how resilience and success are addressed at micro, meso, and macro levels. Semantically, the discourse expands from traditional notions such as robustness, risk management, and performance towards more human-centered, systemic, and digitally enabled perspectives. The study further highlights how AI functions both as a methodological tool and as a strategic enabler, with applications ranging from predictive health analytics and leadership support systems to foresight tools and sustainability monitoring. The findings contribute to organizational resilience theory and offer practitioners actionable pathways to strengthen resilience and competitiveness in the face of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. Fatigue is a multidimensional phenomenon with profound implications for performance, health, and wellbeing. Its complexity means that no single discipline can adequately explain its causes or management, highlighting the need for integrative approaches. This article introduces the F.L.A.M.E.S. framework, a psychological model that integrates self-report, physiological, emotional, and contextual perspectives on fatigue. The framework combines validated assessment tools with evidence-based management strategies including goal setting, motivational self-talk, attentional control, and emotion regulation and embeds these within proactive, reactive, and preventative approaches. Applications are illustrated through case studies in sport, healthcare, and education, showing how the model can be co-constructed with practitioners to ensure ecological validity and uptake. By linking mechanisms to management and scaling solutions across domains, the F.L.A.M.E.S. framework provides a roadmap for enhancing performance, resilience, and sustainable wellbeing. Full article

Theatre-based methodologies are increasingly recognized as complementary approaches that can enhance nurses’ empathy, communication, critical thinking, and person-centred care, all essential for managing chronic illnesses. This scoping review aimed to map and synthesize evidence on the application of theatre in continuing nursing education. A systematic literature search was conducted across five databases (PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus, and Education Source) for publications in English and Italian up to 30 December 2024, supplemented by grey literature from ProQuest and reference screening via Google Scholar. Twenty-one studies met the inclusion criteria, identifying two main theatre methodologies, Forum Theatre and Drama, with four variations. These interactive methods were reported to foster reflective practice, enhance person-centred care, and improve interprofessional collaboration. Positive outcomes included improved nurse–patient relationships, quality of care, emotional engagement, cultural competence, teamwork, conflict management, and acceptance of diversity. Key facilitators were institutional support and active participation, while barriers included resistance to change and limited resources. These findings indicate that theatre-based education can serve as an effective complementary strategy to cultivate empathy, creativity, and reflective skills in continuing nursing education, supporting the development of holistic and patient-centred care practices. Further research is needed to explore the sustainability of acquired competencies in clinical practice. Full article

Circular economy learning fosters competencies in sustainable resource management and environmental protection, which have been recognized by the OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) to be essential for cross-curricular training and higher education. However, implementing gamification techniques through mobile applications remains challenging, as their effectiveness depends on students’ willingness to adopt them. This study evaluated acceptance of a gamified mobile application for circular economy learning among university students in Peru, analyzing the relationships between the constructs of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). A quantitative correlational case study involving 76 students was conducted. The results showed a moderate-to-high acceptance rate of 73.69%, with significant correlations identified between the TAM constructs. This study contributes to closing gaps in empirical evidence on the acceptance of technology for sustainability education in diverse contexts. Future studies should integrate generative artificial intelligence into gamified apps to deliver personalized feedback and employ learning analytics tools for progress tracking, supporting global efforts toward SGD 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption) for the transition to circular economies. Digital marketing has become a game-changer by combining cutting-edge technologies, insights into how customers behave, and applicability across industries to change how businesses plan and how they interact with customers. Digital marketing is a key part of being competitive, sustainable, and innovative in a world where more and more people are using the internet and social media. Even though this subject is important, the study of it is still scattered, which shows that there is a need to systematically map out its intellectual structure. This research utilizes a bibliometric and topic modeling methodology, analyzing 4722 publications sourced from the Scopus database, including the string “Digital Marketing”. The authors employed Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA), a method from Natural Language Processing, to discern latent study themes and Vosviewer 1.6.20 for bibliometric analysis. The results explore ten main thematic clusters, such as digital marketing and blockchain, applications in the health and food industries, higher education and skill enhancement, machine learning and analytics, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and sustainability, emerging trends and ethics, sales transformation, tourism and hospitality, digital media and audience perception, and consumer satisfaction through service quality. These clusters show that digital marketing is becoming more interdisciplinary and is becoming more connected to ethical and technological issues. The report finds that digital marketing research is changing quickly because of artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, immersive technology, and reflect it with a digital business environment. Future directions encompass the expansion of analyses to new economies, the implementation of advanced semantic models, and the navigation of ethical difficulties, thereby guaranteeing that digital marketing fosters both business progress and public welfare. Market gardening plays a central role in food security and improving household income in Ziguinchor, Senegal. Faced with growing environmental and socio-economic challenges, agroecology emerges as a sustainable pathway for strengthening this agro-economic activity. This study evaluates the adoption of agroecological practices by urban and peri-urban market gardeners, identifying influencing factors and constraints. Relative Importance Index (RII), Weighted Average Index (WAI), and Problem Confrontation Index (PCI) ranked the most used practices, influencing factors, and adoption barriers. Results show that 79.67% of respondents were women, mostly over 45, with secondary education. Most of market gardeners consider this activity main source of income, and have been doing so for more than 10 years. Common agroecological practices include: removing weeds and diseased plants, organic fertilization, watering, crop rotation, and recommended fertilizer application, with relative importance indices of 0.75, 0.75, 0.72, 0.73, and 0.62, respectively. Key constraints include the lack of labor (PCI = 789), lack of information and training (PCI = 597), high cost of improved seeds (PCI = 549), and limited access to organic fertilizer (PCI = 538). Reinforcing extension services, capacity building, and both technical and financial support is essential to promote agroecological practices. Full article

Building maintenance is crucial, yet predicting financial resources for it remains challenging, particularly during the design and construction phases. This research aims to analyze and synthesize existing studies on maintenance cost estimation, with a focus on identifying key trends, methodologies, and sustainability considerations. The review finds that most studies emphasize educational and office buildings, while limited attention has been given to infrastructure such as bridges and roads. Moreover, growing attention is being directed toward early-stage maintenance cost estimation and integrating sustainability principles into cost prediction models. The findings underscore that incorporating sustainability factors in maintenance planning enhances long-term performance, reduces lifecycle costs, and supports future-ready building management. The study concludes by highlighting the need for more comprehensive, sustainability-oriented frameworks to improve the accuracy and applicability of maintenance cost estimation in the built environment. Background: Childhood obesity is a growing public health challenge in Poland and worldwide, associated with serious long-term health consequences. Effective prevention requires family-centered, evidence-based interventions that actively engage both children and their caregivers. This study presents the Finnish Smart Family practice—an evidence-based lifestyle counseling method developed by the Finnish Heart Association—and describes its adaptation and implementation in Poland as part of the EU Health4EUkids project. The study emphasizes the method’s practical utility for professionals working with families of children with obesity. Methods: The Smart Family approach is a structured lifestyle counseling method based on findings from the Special Turku Coronary Risk Factor Intervention Project (STRIP) that is grounded in health psychology and strength-based counseling principles. Unlike traditional counseling, which focuses mainly on information transfer, Smart Family promotes motivation, families’ active participation, and recognition of their strengths in areas such as nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and oral hygiene. The method uses practical tools including the Smart Family card, other supporting materials, and dedicated online platforms for both families and healthcare providers. These tools enable families to self-assess their lifestyle, select discussion topics during visits, and set achievable goals while supporting professionals in initiating non-judgmental, collaborative conversations. In Poland, the program was adapted using culturally appropriate materials and professional training, followed by pilot implementation in primary healthcare and educational settings that included pre-implementation planning, practical training sessions, the application of intervention tools, and outcome evaluation. Results: Pilot implementation demonstrated high usability and effectiveness. The approach enabled non-judgmental, supportive engagement with families, facilitated active participation in setting health goals, and promoted sustainable lifestyle changes in nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and other health behaviors. Evaluation highlighted the importance of supporting program objectives at the national level, standardizing child healthcare practices, and engaging media and local authorities to create a supportive ecosystem. Conclusions: The Polish experience confirms that Smart Family is an evidence-based intervention that strengthens professional competence, provides practical tools for family-centered care, and supports the long-term prevention of child-hood obesity and related non-communicable diseases. Its integration into healthcare and educational settings offers a promising strategy for improving public health outcomes. Full article
