Industry 4.0 represents a significant transformation in industrial systems through digital integration, presenting both opportunities and challenges for aligning the workforce, especially in emerging economies like Thailand. This study adopts a sequential exploratory mixed-method approach to investigate how strategic human resource development (HRD) contributes to sustainable transformation, defined as the enduring alignment between workforce capabilities and technological advancement. The qualitative phase involved case studies of five Thai manufacturing firms at varying levels of Industry 4.0 adoption, utilizing semi-structured interviews with executives and HR leaders. Thematic findings informed the development of a structured survey, distributed to 144 firms. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS SEM) was used to test the hypothesized relationships among business pressures, leadership support, HRD preparedness, and technological readiness. The analysis reveals that business pressures significantly influence leadership and HRD, which in turn facilitate technological readiness. However, business pressures alone do not directly enhance readiness without the support of intermediaries. These results underscore the critical role of integrated HRD and leadership frameworks in enabling sustainable digital transformation. This study contributes to theoretical perspectives by integrating HRD, leadership, and technological readiness, offering practical guidance for firms aiming to navigate the complexities of Industry 4.0. Demands for companies to comply with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) requirements are growing, and companies are also expected to play a role in promoting sustainable development. For companies to achieve sustainable growth while addressing ESG, it must be understood whether ESG activities promote improved corporate financial performance. We conducted a five-year panel data analysis of 635 Japanese firms from FY 2019 to FY 2023, using the PBR, PER, and ROE financial indicators as the dependent variables and CSR ratings in the human resource utilization (HR), environment (E), governance (G), and social (S) categories as the independent variables. The results revealed that, depending on the combination of ESG field and financial indicators, companies with advanced ESG initiatives had greater financial performance, with some cases showing a nonlinear relationship; differences in the results between manufacturing and nonmanufacturing industries were also observed. For companies to effectively advance ESG activities, it is important to clarify the objectives and results for each ESG category. For policymakers to consider measures to encourage companies’ ESG activities, it is also important to design finely tuned regulations and incentives according to the ESG category and industry characteristics. Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Climate Aridization in Rostov Oblast in 1951–2054 Using ERA5 and CMIP6 Data and the De Martonne Index

Rostov Oblast is one of the key grain-producing regions in Russia, accounting for 6% of the total grain production. However, it faces an increasing risk of climate aridization, which requires an accurate scientific assessment to ensure the food security of the country. The present study analyzes the spatial and temporal dynamics of climate aridification in the Rostov region for the period 1951–2054. This analysis is based on ERA5 reanalysis data and CMIP6 forecast models (MPI-ESM1-2-HR, CanESM5, BCC-CSM2-MR). The analysis indicates that the annual mean temperature in the region has increased by 2–3 °C since the 1950s, reaching 12 °C in 2023. At the same time, precipitation shows significant interannual variability with no detectable long-term trend. Spatial analysis reveals a stable meridional temperature gradient and zonality of precipitation distribution. The southeastern parts of the region are characterized by the highest degree of aridification. Projection models indicate further warming (+1.5–3 °C by 2054) and increasing contrasts between western (wetter) and eastern (drier) areas. Projections derived from the CMIP6 models indicate an intensification of aridification, accompanied by a decrease in the De Martonne index of 15–25% by the year 2054. The area of territories with arid climates is expected to increase from 30% to 40%. The most vulnerable regions will be in the southeast part of Rostov Oblast, where the De Martonne index values are predicted to decrease to less than 10. The potential increase in temperature and evapotranspiration, coupled with spatial differentiation, could pose significant risks to the sustainability of the agro-industrial complex, particularly in the southeastern part of the region. This study investigates the potential for the microbial transformation of camelliagenin B, a saponin derived from Camellia oleifera seed cake meal, to develop novel metabolites. We employed three microbial strains, specifically Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, Bacillus megaterium CGMCC 1.1741, and Streptomyces griseus ATCC 13273, to biotransform camelliagenin B into its derivatives. The compounds were purified and separated using chromatographic techniques, such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Structural identification was carried out using spectroscopic methods, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometry (MS). Ten bioactive compounds were obtained (1a-1j), of which nine were novel with multiple tailoring reactions, such as allyl oxidation, C-C double-bond rearrangement, hydroxylation, dehydrogenation, and glycosylation, observed in camelliagenin B analogs. The structures of these compounds were determined by 1D/2D NMR and HR-ESI-MS analysis. Therefore, this study showcases the capacity of microbial transformation as a sustainable and environmentally friendly method for generating bioactive compounds from C. oleifera seed cake meals. The individual chemicals can potentially facilitate the design of novel medicinal agents, functional foods, and natural preservatives. Full article

The adjuvant treatment landscape for hormone receptor-positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2–) early breast cancer (EBC) is rapidly evolving, with a diverse range of therapeutic options—including endocrine therapies, bisphosphonates, ovarian function suppression, olaparib, CDK4/6 inhibitors, and emerging agents such as immunotherapy. While these advances have markedly improved patient outcomes, they also introduce challenges related to implementation, monitoring, and resource allocation. Notably, therapies like CDK4/6 inhibitors require particularly close monitoring, creating logistical and capacity challenges for medical oncologists, whose workloads are already stretched due to rising cancer incidence and treatment complexities. These challenges underscore the need for innovative care delivery solutions to ensure patients with EBC continue to receive optimal care. This paper offers a comprehensive guide—a playbook—of multidisciplinary-team-based care models designed to optimize adjuvant treatment delivery in EBC. Drawing on real-world evidence and successful applications across Canadian centers, we explore models led by nurses, nurse practitioners (NPs), general practitioners in oncology (GPO), and pharmacists. Each model leverages the unique expertise of its team to manage treatment toxicities, facilitate adherence, and enhance patient education, thereby promoting effective and sustainable care delivery. Importantly, these models are not intended to compete with one another, but rather to serve as a flexible recipe book from which breast cancer care teams can draw strategies tailored to their local resources and patient needs. By detailing implementation strategies, benefits, and challenges—in many instances supported by quantitative metrics and economic evaluations—this work aims to inspire care teams nationwide to optimize the adjuvant management of patients with HR+, HER2– EBC. This paper presents a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach for optimizing a microgrid system to achieve Plus-Energy Building (PEB) performance at the University of Coimbra’s Electrical Engineering Department. Using Python 3.12.8, Rhino 7, and PVsyst 8.0.1, simulations considered architectural and visual constraints, with economic feasibility assessed through a TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) analysis. The system is projected to generate approximately 1 GWh annually, with a 98% probability of exceeding 1076 MWh based on Gaussian estimation. Consumption is estimated at 460 MWh, while a 3.8 MWh battery ensures up to 72 h of autonomy. Rooftop panels and green parking arrays, fixed at 13.5° and 59°, minimize visual impact while contributing a surplus of +160% energy injection (or a net surplus of +60% energy after self-consumption). Assuming a battery cost of EUR 200/kWh, each hour of energy storage for the building requires 61 kWh of extra capacity with a cost of 12,200 (EUR/hr.storage). Recognizing environmental variability, these figures represent cross-validated probabilistic estimates derived from both PVsyst and Monte Carlo simulation using Python, reinforcing confidence in system feasibility. A holistic photovoltaic optimization strategy balances technical, economic, and architectural factors, demonstrating the potential of PEBs as a sustainable energy solution for academic institutions. As organizations become increasingly projectified, safeguarding the resilience of project professionals and teams emerges as a critical organizational challenge. Adopting a systems lens, we investigate how agile mindsets and agile practices function as systemic antecedents of resilience at the individual and team levels. Eleven semi-structured interviews with experienced project managers, product owners, and team members from diverse industries were analyzed through inductive thematic coding and system mapping. The findings show that mindset supplies psychological resources—self-efficacy, openness and a learning orientation—while practices such as team autonomy, iterative delivery and transparent communication provide structural routines; together they trigger five interlocking mechanisms: empowerment, fast responsiveness, holistic team dynamics, stakeholder-ecosystem engagement and continuous learning. These mechanisms reinforce one another in feedback loops that boost a project system’s adaptive capacity under volatility. The synergy of mindset and practices is especially valuable in hybrid or traditionally governed projects, where cognitive agility offsets structural rigidity. This study offers the first multi-level, systems-based explanation of agile antecedents of resilience and delivers actionable levers for executives, transformation leaders, project professionals, and HR specialists aiming to sustain talent performance in turbulent contexts. Impact of Prior SARS-CoV-2 Infection on COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness in Children and Adolescents in Norway and Italy

Background and objective: The approval of mRNA-based vaccines for children and adolescents has contributed to global efforts to control the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. While hybrid immunity—combining prior SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination—may offer enhanced protection, data on its effectiveness versus vaccine-induced immunity in the pediatric population are limited. Methods: This retrospective matched cohort study used linked health data from Norwegian nationwide health registries and the Italian Pedianet network. The study included children and adolescents aged 5–14 years eligible for COVID-19 vaccination at the time of approval (May/September 2021 and November 2021/January 2022, respectively). Mono- and two-dose vaccination schedules were assessed, and hybrid immunity was defined as prior SARS-CoV-2 infection followed by vaccination within 12 months. Conditional Cox regression models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) for SARS-CoV-2 infection risk, adjusting for sociodemographics, comorbidities, and healthcare utilization. Results: The study included 626,537 children and adolescents in Norway and 38,938 in Italy. A single dose of the vaccine did not reduce the risk of infection among SARS-CoV-2–naive individuals in Norway (HR: 1.05; 95% CI: 1.04–1.07), whereas it was associated with an 8% risk reduction in Italy (HR: 0.92; 95% CI: 0.88–0.96). Among individuals with a recent prior infection (within 12 months), vaccination was associated with a reduced risk of reinfection in Norway (HR: 0.10; 95% CI: 0.05–0.13), but not in Italy (HR: 1.22; 95% CI: 0.83–1.80), compared to no vaccination. Among those with prior infection, vaccination was associated with a significantly reduced risk of reinfection in Norway (HR = 0.10; 95% CI: 0.05–0.20), but not in Italy (HR = 0.55; 95% CI: 0.27–1.11). Hybrid immunity provided greater protection against (re-)infection compared to vaccine-induced immunity alone, with a 26% risk reduction observed in Norway (HR = 0.74; 95% CI = 0.47–0.1.16) and an 86% reduction in Italy (HR = 0.14; 95% CI = 0.09–0.21). Conclusions: This analysis supports the effectiveness of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in children, with hybrid immunity offering enhanced protection against reinfection. Given the waning effectiveness of vaccines over time, continued research and booster strategies are essential to sustain protection and mitigate transmission. Full article

This study proposes a predictive framework that integrates machine learning techniques with Transactional Net Promoter Score (tNPS) data to enhance sustainable Human Resource management. A synthetically generated dataset, simulating real-world employee feedback across divisions and departments, was used to classify employee performance and engagement levels. Six machine learning models such as XGBoost, TabNet, Random Forest, Support Vector Machines, K-Nearest Neighbors, and Neural Architecture Search were applied to predict high-performing and at-risk employees. XGBoost achieved the highest accuracy and robustness across key performance metrics, including precision, recall, and F1-score. The findings demonstrate the potential of combining real-time sentiment data with predictive analytics to support proactive HR strategies. By enabling early intervention, data-driven workforce planning, and continuous performance monitoring, the proposed framework contributes to long-term employee satisfaction, talent retention, and organizational resilience, aligning with sustainable development goals in human capital management. Background: Increases in maximal oxygen uptake (V̇O2max) occur with high-intensity interval training (HIIT), partially due to an extended duration spent at or near maximal V̇O2 or heart rate (HRmax). HIIT induces a delay in HR and V̇O2 during exercise, leading to consistently high HR/V̇O2 values in recovery between intervals. Purpose: This study compared the V̇O2 and HR response between exercise and recovery to various cycling HIIT protocols using data from seven prior studies. Methods: Healthy, active men and women (N = 104, age and V̇O2max 24 ± 5 yr and 40 ± 7 mL/kg/min) underwent HIIT protocols having different durations (30–60 s), intensities (70–85 percent of maximal workload (%Wmax), and recovery periods (10–75 s). V̇O2, HR, and blood lactate concentration (BLa) were assessed. Results: Across studies, peak HR was equal to 90.7 ± 6.2% HRmax. Results showed no significant difference in mean HR (159 ± 14 vs. 160 ± 15 b/min, p = 0.48) or V̇O2 (1.97 ± 0.47 vs. 1.98 ± 0.48 L/min, p = 0.82) between exercise and recovery. Conclusions: These data show elevated V̇O2 and HR during recovery from HIIT, suggesting a substantial, sustained load on the cardiovascular system in recovery from interval exercise. Full article

In the face of accelerating digital transformation and AI-driven innovations in the post-COVID-19 era, the effectiveness of Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) is critical to organizational resilience and sustainable digital transformation in highly regulated sectors. This study examines how information quality, executive innovativeness, and staff IT capabilities influence HRIS effectiveness and evaluates the mediating role of Information System (IS) Ambidexterity, defined as an organization’s ability to explore and exploit its IS resources concurrently. By confirming the impact of organizational enablers on HRIS effectiveness, the study provides theoretical grounding for digital transformation strategies rooted in Resource-Based View (RBV) and Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT). Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS was employed for its strength in modeling complex relationships and validating latent constructs in organizational contexts. Empirical data were gathered from 157 HR leaders across financial institutions in Pakistan. The results confirm that the identified enablers significantly impact both IS Ambidexterity and HRIS effectiveness and also emerge as strategic levers for building resilient, data-driven HRIS frameworks. IS Ambidexterity, a relatively underexplored construct in information systems research, enhances the strategic contribution of HRIS by serving as a dynamic capability that enables organizations to adapt and create sustained value in evolving digital environments. HRIS effectiveness contributes to efficiency, agility, strategic responsiveness, and cost optimization in financial institutions. Nejayote (Nej), an effluent from nixtamalization process, has an alkaline pH and contains a high load of organic matter in suspension and dissolution, which makes it a highly polluting waste when discharged directly into the environment. However, the sustainable reuse of this effluent is relevant since it contains high-value compounds (ferulic acid (FA)) with appropriate activity for the ecological synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). This study explores the synthesis of AgNPs using Nej as a reducing and stabilizing agent and evaluates the antibacterial effectiveness of AgNPs against Escherichia coli (E. coli). The AgNPs under study possess excellent optical (UV-Vis) and structural properties (XRD). HR-TEM images show predominantly spherical particles, with an average size of 20 nm. FTIR spectroscopy identified functional groups, including phenols and flavonoids, on the nanoparticle surface, acting as stabilizing agents. HPLC supports the existence of FA in the AgNPs. Biogenic AgNPs exhibit enhanced antibacterial activity due to the adsorption of these functional groups onto their surface, which contributes to bacterial membrane disruption. Finally, no hemolytic or cytotoxic activity was observed, suggesting that the AgNPs exert antimicrobial activity without potentially harmful doses (biocompatibility). The study highlights the potential of Nej as a sustainable source for use in nanoparticle synthesis, promoting the recycling of agro-industrial waste and the production of materials with technological applications. People are considered the most valuable resources in the workplace. They bring their unique knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to contribute to the organization’s success. A sustainable workplace puts people first by prioritizing policies and practices to support employees’ physical, mental, and emotional health and promote work–life balance, which ultimately lead to increased job satisfaction and overall wellbeing. Wellbeing and positive functioning are considered essential elements for developing sustainable work performance. Organizations ought to develop sustainable management processes and practices as well as sustainable leadership to minimize the negative effects of the workplace on employee wellbeing and to foster a sustainable culture. This study aims to explore how a sustainable HRM would promote and enhance employee wellbeing in the workplace by investigating and developing a theoretical framework to connect the conceptual list of sustainable HR policies and practices with the five elements of the PERMA model of employee wellbeing. In response to escalating societal and environmental expectations, corporate social responsibility (CSR) has evolved into a strategic imperative rather than a voluntary or peripheral activity. This study investigates the effect of employees’ CSR perceptions on job performance, with corporate reputation (CR) examined as a mediating variable. Drawing on Social Identity and Social Exchange Theories, the research explores how CSR, as an element of business innovation and sustainable organizational practices, fosters internal stakeholder engagement and performance enhancement. Data were collected from five-star hotel employees in İstanbul/Türkiye, a service sector context where customer satisfaction is highly dependent on frontline employee behavior. Using PROCESS Macro for SPSS 27, the findings reveal that CSR perceptions significantly and positively influence employee performance both directly and indirectly through the enhancement of CR. This mediating effect underscores the role of CSR not only as an ethical framework but also as an internal mechanism that strengthens employee commitment and output. The study contributes to CSR and the organizational behavior literature by empirically validating that internal CSR perceptions shape strategic outcomes such as employee performance, especially within high-contact service environments. Theoretical implications emphasize CSR’s integrative function in reputation-building and performance systems, while practical insights recommend embedding socially responsible practices into HR and internal communication strategies to achieve sustainable outcomes and societal well-being. These findings offer meaningful contributions to the scope of business innovation by linking CSR with strategic performance indicators in labor-intensive industries. Full article
