Urban parks are central to public health and equity, yet less is known about how park travel distance, park “attractor” types, and time-of-day visitation rhythms co-evolved through and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Using anonymized smartphone mobility traces for public parks in Las Vegas, USA (2018–2022), we construct weekly origin–destination flows between census block groups (CBGs) and parks and link origins to socio-economic indicators. We first estimate visitor-weighted mean travel distance with a segmented time-series model that allows pandemic-related breakpoints. Results show that average park-trip distance (≈8.4 km pre-pandemic), including a substantial share of long-distance trips (≈52% of visits), contracted sharply at the onset of COVID-19, and that both travel radii and seasonal excursion peaks only partially rebounded by 2022. Next, cross-sectional OLS/WLS models (R2 ≈ 0.08–0.14) indicate persistent socio-spatial disparities: CBGs with higher educational attainment and larger shares of Black and Hispanic residents are consistently associated with shorter park-trip distances, suggesting constrained recreational mobility for socially disadvantaged groups. We then identify a stable two-type park typology—local versus regional attractors—using clustering on origin diversity and long-distance share (silhouette ≈ 0.46–0.52); this typology is strongly related to visitation volume and temporal usage profiles. Finally, mixed-effects models of evening and late-night visit shares show that regional attractors sustain higher nighttime activity than local parks, even as citywide evening/late-night visitation dipped during the mid-pandemic period and only partly recovered thereafter. Overall, our findings reveal a durable post-pandemic re-scaling of park use toward more proximate, CBG-embedded patterns layered on enduring inequities in access to distant, destination-oriented parks. These insights offer actionable evidence for equitable park planning, targeted investment in high-need areas, and time-sensitive management strategies that account for daytime versus nighttime use. Electric mobility is increasingly recognised as a sustainable transportation solution worldwide. While the economic and environmental aspects of e-mobility have been explored extensively, social dimensions such as equity, accessibility, and inclusiveness remain underexplored. Existing literature on these social aspects is fragmented across disciplines, shaped by varying regional contexts, which complicates efforts to form a coherent understanding of the field. To address this gap, a bibliometric analysis was conducted using the R-studio software via the Biblioshiny app. Version 4.3.0. This analysis systematically maps the intellectual landscape, identifies dominant themes, and highlights critical research gaps at the intersection of e-mobility and social sustainability. A total of 490 publications were extracted from the Scopus database as of 23 March 2025. The findings reveal a sharp increase in scholarly attention since 2018, peaking at 110 publications in 2024. The top-ranked country is China, which has 130 publications. In addition, the research has clustered around four thematic areas: energy and charging infrastructure, social and economic impacts, public policy and regulations, and technological innovations. Despite this growth, persistent gaps remain, particularly concerning social equity, inclusive policy design, socio-economic disparities, and the real-world effects of emerging technologies on vulnerable populations. Future research should specifically explore how e-mobility initiatives can reduce regional access inequalities, generate quality green employment, and ensure that technologies such as vehicle-to-grid systems are equitably deployed to benefit low-income and marginalised populations. The concept of sustainable development has emerged as a global consensus, forged in response to environmental constraints and critical reflection on conventional growth-oriented paradigms. It now serves as the overarching framework for addressing climate, ecological, and socio-economic crises. In the period after the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2016, there was an observable trend of increased integration of these objectives into the strategic frameworks of national and subnational entities. However, global assessments have indicated a divergence between the progress achieved and the trajectory delineated by the SDGs. The Earth system is demonstrating signs of decreased resilience, with widening inequalities and the emergence of multiple crises, thereby hindering the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. As the 2030 deadline approaches, a fundamental question arises for global development governance: what should be the future of the SDGs beyond 2030? While insufficient progress has prompted debates over the adequacy of the SDG framework, fundamentally revising or replacing the SDGs would risk undermining a hard-won international consensus forged through decades of negotiation and institutional investment. Based on a comprehensive review of the historical evolution of the sustainable development concept, this study argues that the SDGs represent a rare and fragile achievement in global governance. While insufficient progress has sparked debates about their effectiveness, fundamentally revising or replacing the SDGs would jeopardize the hard-won international consensus forged through decades of negotiations and institutional investments. This study further analyzes the latest progress on the SDGs and identifies emerging risks, aiming to explore how to accelerate and optimize sustainable development pathways within the existing SDG framework rather than propose a new global goal system. Based on both global experience and practice in China, four interconnected strategic priorities—namely, economic reform, social equity, environmental justice, and technology sharing—are proposed as a comprehensive framework to accelerate SDG implementation and guide the transformation of development pathways towards a more just, low-carbon, and resilient future. Urban street greening structure plays a crucial role in promoting environmental justice and enhancing residents’ daily well-being, yet existing studies have primarily focused on vegetation quantity while neglecting how perception and governance interact to shape fairness. This study develops an integrated analytical framework that combines deep learning, machine learning, and spatial analysis to examine the impact of perceptual experience and socio-economic indicators on the equity of greening structure distribution in urban streets, and to reveal the underlying mechanisms driving this equity. Using DeepLabV3+ semantic segmentation, perception indices derived from street-view imagery, and population-weighted Gini coefficients, the study quantifies both the structural and perceptual dimensions of greening equity. XGBoost regression, SHAP interpretation, and Partial Dependence Plot analysis were applied to reveal the influence mechanism of the “Matthew effect” of perception and the Site governance responsiveness on the fairness of the green structure. The results identify two key findings: (1) perception has a positive driving effect and a negative vicious cycle effect on the formation of fairness, where positive perceptions such as beauty and safety gradually enhance fairness, while negative perceptions such as depression and boredom rapidly intensify inequality; (2) Site management with environmental sensitivity and dynamic mutual feedback to a certain extent determines whether the fairness of urban green structure can persist under pressure, as diverse Tree–Bush–Grass configurations reflect coordinated management and lead to more balanced outcomes. Policy strategies should therefore emphasize perceptual monitoring, flexible maintenance systems, and transparent public participation to achieve resilient and equitable urban street greening structures. This study critically examines the relationship between neoliberal environmentalism and green certification systems by quantitatively analyzing LEED-certified buildings in Istanbul. It explores how green building practices intersect with market-oriented urban environmental governance through an analysis of the spatial distribution, ownership types, access typologies, and functional uses of certified projects. The findings reveal that nearly 80% of LEED-certified buildings in Istanbul are developed by private companies, and that 88.6% of these buildings are private spaces with limited or no public access. These projects are predominantly high-end offices or residential developments, with a large share holding “Gold” certification. Correlation analysis identifies an inverse relationship between LEED project density and socioeconomic vulnerability, raising critical questions about spatial justice and equity in access to sustainable urban environments. This study contributes to the growing body of critical literature that frames urban sustainability not merely as a technocratic checklist of standards but as a normative and contested terrain in which justice, equity, and inclusivity must be placed at the center. Quality of life (QoL) is a multidimensional concept involving physical, psychological, social, and environmental dimensions. Therefore, it reflects not only individual well-being but also the overall well-being and sustainability of societies. Current approaches to QoL have expanded from purely economic or health-based indicators to incorporate a range of multidimensional analyses at urban, regional, and national levels, with more recent emphasis on interlinkages between socio-economic and spatial factors. This research investigates how geoinformation methodologies, including remote sensing, spatial analysis, and machine learning, can be applied to assess QoL across multiple spatial scales. Through a systematic review and comparative evaluation, the study aims to identify which indicators, data sources, and analytical tools are used at each spatial level—from neighborhood and urban scale to regional and national levels. Emphasis was placed on understanding how methodological approaches vary across scales and how spatial resolution, data availability, and urban context influence the design and implementation of QoL assessment frameworks. The main objective was to establish a common analytical framework for evaluating QoL across different spatial scales. The review revealed that combining data, machine learning algorithms, and spatial analysis approaches in a common framework will enhance comparative and predictive capabilities beyond the state of the art, although it will face significant data heterogeneity challenges. Future research aims to develop consistent, multidimensional models supportive of policies fostering sustainability and spatial equity in urban and regional contexts. Full article

This study examines the social determinants of the digital divide in pre-service teacher education through the design and validation of the Digital Hospitality Scale (DSBD-HD-FID). The instrument was developed to diagnose social inequalities across six key dimensions: socioeconomic status, geographic location, gender, age, disability status, and interculturality. These dimensions are understood as structural factors shaping access to, use of, and participation in digital environments within teacher education. The research followed a non-experimental, quantitative, and cross-sectional design, including content validation through expert judgment and statistical analysis based on a pilot sample of education students from Chile and Portugal. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted, and internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The results confirm strong content and construct validity, as well as high reliability (α = 0.93). Empirical findings indicate that socioeconomic status and geographic location significantly condition access to connectivity and digital literacy, while gender differences emerge mainly in recreational uses and frequency of digital training. Beyond these results, the study highlights the relevance of addressing digital inequalities in teacher education through inclusive and equity-oriented training policies. The findings support the integration of digital hospitality, human rights education, and the Sustainable Development Goals into initial teacher training curricula as measurable and evaluable dimensions, providing an evidence-based framework to inform future teacher education policies aimed at reducing digital divides and promoting social cohesion. This study examines how parental legal status operates as a fundamental social determinant of health and educational equity, focusing on long-term outcomes among U.S.-born and foreign-born children of immigrants. We hypothesized that intergenerational stress and institutional exclusion associated with undocumented status would lead to lower educational attainment and poorer health. Using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health (Add Health), a nationally representative cohort, participants were classified by inferred parental legal status: native-born, documented immigrant, and undocumented immigrant. Outcomes included high school graduation, college enrollment, depression scores, and chronic health conditions. Children of undocumented parents exhibited the most adverse outcomes—lower graduation (63.8%) and college enrollment rates (39.9%), higher depression, and greater chronic illness. In models controlling for socioeconomic factors, parental undocumented status independently predicted reduced odds of college enrollment (OR = 0.61, p < 0.001) and increased odds of reporting fair/poor health (OR = 2.10, p < 0.001). Findings highlight legal precarity as a potent driver of intergenerational disadvantage and underscore the need for policies addressing the barriers faced by children in undocumented families to promote health and educational equity. Urban heat islands pose intensifying threats to public health, equity, and urban livability as climate change amplifies temperature extremes. This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 33 primary studies (2021–2025) examining health impacts, mitigation strategies, and policy integration. The analysis focuses on interaction mechanisms, specifically how mitigation strategies differentially reduce health burdens across vulnerable populations, to advance systems-level understanding of urban heat dynamics. Following PRISMA guidelines, the review examined these mechanisms across three interconnected domains: health burdens, physical mitigation effectiveness, and post-pandemic policy synergies. Findings reveal profound inequities in heat exposure and associated health outcomes, with disadvantaged populations experiencing 26–45% higher heat-related mortality risk and 3–4 °C greater exposure than affluent communities, even after controlling for income. Physical mitigation strategies show measurable effectiveness, providing 1–6 °C cooling from green infrastructure and 2–22 °C from cool surfaces. Optimal interventions vary by socioeconomic context, with urban trees being more effective in disadvantaged areas, while cool roofs are better suited to affluent zones. COVID-19 natural experiments demonstrated 30–50% anthropogenic heat reductions, revealing strategic opportunities for integrating heat mitigation with 15-Minute City planning and work-from-home normalization. Effective implementation requires moving beyond isolated interventions toward spatially differentiated, equity-centered strategies aligned across planning, transportation, and governance domains. The post-pandemic period presents a critical window for embedding heat mitigation into broader urban transformation agendas. Full article

Urban tree canopy is increasingly recognized as a health-protective form of green infrastructure, yet its distribution remains uneven across socioeconomically stratified neighborhoods. This study quantifies fine-scale tree-canopy inequity across Census Block Groups (CBGs) in Baltimore and examines associations with socioeconomic deprivation and modeled pollution-related cancer risk. We integrated (i) 2023 US Forest Service canopy estimates aggregated to CBGs, (ii) Area Deprivation Index (ADI) national and state ranks, (iii) American Community Survey 5-year population counts, and (iv) EPA NATA/HAPs cancer-risk estimates aggregated to CBGs using population-weighted means. Associations were assessed using Spearman correlations and visualized with LOESS smoothers. Canopy was negatively associated with ADI national and state ranks (ρ = −0.509 and −0.503), explaining 29–31% of canopy variation. Population-weighted canopy declined from 47–51% in the least deprived decile to 13–15% in the most deprived (3.4–4.1× disparity). Beyond socioeconomic gradients, overall distributional inequity was quantified using a population-weighted Tree Canopy Inequality Index (TCI; weighted Gini), yielding TCI = 0.312, indicating substantial inequality. The population-weighted Atkinson index rose sharply under increasing inequality aversion (A0.5 = 0.084; A2 = 0.402), revealing extreme canopy deficits concentrated among the most disadvantaged neighborhoods. Canopy was also negatively associated with modeled cancer risk (ρ = −0.363). We constructed a Triple Burden Index integrating canopy deficit, deprivation, and cancer risk, identifying spatially clustered high-burden neighborhoods that collectively house over 86,000 residents. These findings demonstrate that canopy inequity in Baltimore is structurally concentrated and support equity-targeted greening and sustained maintenance strategies guided by distributional justice metrics. Background/Objectives: Blood donation is essential to health systems and represents a valuable epidemiological model for studying physiological adaptation to controlled blood loss. Regular blood donors constitute a distinct, health-screened population whose biological responses offer unique insight into mechanisms of resilience and key determinants of population health. Hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) is a key regulator of erythropoiesis and cellular response to hypoxia, and its modulation following blood donation may inform donor safety and the sustainability of blood donation programs. This study aimed to characterize the sociodemographic, lifestyle, and anthropometric profiles of blood donors in relation to hematopoietic biomarkers (vitamin B12 and folic acid) and to evaluate changes in serum HIF-1α concentration after donation, emphasizing the public health relevance of voluntary blood donation. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 324 voluntary blood donors (159 regular and 165 occasional). Serum HIF-1α was measured before and 30 min after donation, together with vitamin B12 and folic acid levels. Sociodemographic and lifestyle characteristics (physical activity, smoking, dietary habits) were collected through standardized questionnaires (EHIS-3, FFQ), and anthropometric parameters were assessed. Results: Regular donors were older and predominantly male, with comparable socioeconomic indicators between groups. Both regular and occasional donors showed favorable lifestyle profiles, including low smoking prevalence and moderate physical activity. Skinfold thickness was significantly greater in regular donors (p < 0.001). The main biological finding was a robust post-donation increase in HIF-1α concentrations (≈80%, p < 0.001), independent of donation frequency or lifestyle. No significant associations were found between lifestyle factors and vitamin B12 or folate levels. Conclusions: Blood donation induces a rapid elevation in HIF-1α, reflecting activation of hypoxia-responsive pathways and short-term hematopoietic adaptation. Beyond its biomedical relevance, voluntary blood donation represents a meaningful epidemiological and public health model for studying physiological resilience and the health benefits of altruistic behavior. These findings underscore the importance of donor surveillance and motivation as components of broader preventive health and health equity strategies. Full article

Background/Objectives: Ethnic disparities in type 2 diabetes (T2D) outcomes remain a significant public health challenge in Aotearoa New Zealand (NZ), but are not accurately reported in large datasets. This cross-sectional study used linked regional health records to examine ethnic inequities in glycaemic control and achievement of clinical targets among adults with T2D in the Waikato and Auckland regions. Methods: A cross-sectional analysis was conducted on 57,734 adults aged 18–75 years with confirmed T2D enrolled in four Primary Healthcare Organisations. Clinical and sociodemographic data from February 2021 to December 2023 were linked via National Health Index numbers. Key outcomes included the percentage of patients at target for HbA1c, blood pressure, lipid profiles, renal and liver function tests. Logistic regression assessed associations between ethnicity, socioeconomic deprivation, and clinical target attainment. Results: The mean age was 56.5 ± 12.4 years, and 86.8% of the cohort were overweight or obese. Overall, only 46.3% achieved the HbA1c target (<53 mmol/mol) in their most recent test, with Māori (OR 1.35) and Pacific (OR 1.84) ethnicities, higher deprivation, obesity, and younger age independently associated with elevated HbA1c. Hypertension affected two-thirds of participants (71.9% above target), notably Asians and Pacific peoples. Māori and Pacific peoples had over twice the odds of renal impairment and were 2.5 times more likely to have elevated albumin-to-creatinine ratios. Abnormal liver function test decreased with age (OR ≤ 0.65), though Asians had over twice the odds of elevated ALT and AST compared to Europeans. Conclusions: Significant ethnic inequities exist in glycaemic and clinical target attainment among people with T2D in NZ. These findings highlight critical gaps in diabetes management and underscore the urgent need for targeted, equity-focused interventions addressing both socioeconomic and ethnic disparities to improve outcomes and reduce health inequities. Assessment practices in Romanian primary education remain largely recall-based, despite curriculum expectations that prioritize reasoning, metacognition, and inclusive learning processes. This conceptual–analytical study examines the structural misalignments between curriculum goals, classroom assessment cultures, and national evaluation systems, highlighting their impact on learning equity and cognitive development. Drawing on international frameworks (OECD, UNESCO), national assessment data, and Romanian pedagogical literature, the analysis identifies three systemic gaps: curriculum–assessment misalignment, assessment–instruction misalignment, and a mismatch between equity-oriented policies and classroom practice. To address these challenges, the article proposes the ECEI Framework, an integrated developmental model that combines principles of cognitive education, metacognitive strategy development, inclusive pedagogy, and formative assessment. The framework introduces four categories of indicators—cognitive, metacognitive, inclusive, and assessment—designed to support teachers in observing and evaluating learning processes more effectively in diverse classrooms. Discipline-based illustrations in mathematics, reading, and science demonstrate how innovative assessment practices can make students’ thinking visible through authentic tasks, learning progressions, and multimodal response pathways. The findings suggest that developmental and inclusive assessment is essential for improving learning outcomes and reducing socio-economic disparities in primary education. Implementing the ECEI Framework requires targeted teacher training, coherent curriculum–assessment alignment, and system-level support to ensure sustainable changes in instructional practice. This systematic literature review examines the rapid growth of research on the use of drones applied to smart agriculture, a key field for the digital and sustainable transformation of the agricultural sector. The study aimed to synthesize the current state of knowledge regarding the application of drones in smart agriculture by applying the Kitchenham protocol (SLR), complemented with Petersen’s systematic mapping (SMS). A search was conducted in high-impact academic databases (Scopus, IEEE Xplore, Taylor & Francis Online, Google Scholar, and ProQuest), covering the period 2019–2025 (July). After applying the inclusion, exclusion, and quality criteria, 73 relevant studies were analyzed. The results reveal that 90% of the publications appear in Q1 journals, with China and the United States leading scientific production. The thematic analysis identified “UAS Phenotyping” as the main driving theme in the literature, while “precision agriculture,” “machine learning,” and “remote sensing” were the most recurrent and highly interconnected keywords. An exponential increase in publications was observed between 2022 and 2024. The review confirms the consolidation of drones as a central tool in digital agriculture, with significant advances in yield estimation, pest detection, and 3D modeling, although challenges remain in standardization, model generalization, and technological equity. It is recommended to promote open access repositories and interdisciplinary studies that integrate socioeconomic and environmental dimensions to strengthen the sustainable adoption of drone technologies in agriculture. Racial and ethnic disparities in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) survival persist despite advances in treatment, with non-Hispanic black (NHB) patients and Hispanic patients often experiencing worse outcomes than Non-Hispanic White (NHW) patients due to a combination of clinical, socioeconomic, and biological factors. This review focuses on these disparities and emphasizes potential contributions of biology, as illustrated by the effects of the nucleophosmin 1 (NPM1) mutation. Mutation landscapes and chromosomal abnormalities strongly influence AML patient outcomes. While AML cases with NPM1 mutations are associated with favorable prognoses for NHW patients, NHB patients with NPM1-mutated AML have adverse outcomes. Thus, treatment algorithms and prognostic systems based on outcomes from a single racial ancestry group are inadequate. Beyond the more traditional socioeconomic determinants of health, addressing disparities in AML to achieve equity in care requires exploring biological factors linked to ancestry that shape treatment response.
