Under intensified downward economic pressures on the economy, technological innovation is playing a pivotal role in the development of Chinese enterprises. Employees’ psychological safety significantly influences their innovative behaviors, as a climate of psychological safety fosters greater willingness among staff to engage in voice behaviors. Guanxi with a team leader may decrease this effect. This study analyzed survey data from 263 employees of China’s private manufacturing enterprises to explore the moderating role of guanxi with a team leader in the relationship between psychological safety climate and voice behavior. Results showed that psychological safety climate was positively correlated with promotive and prohibitive voices, and employees with a higher psychological safety climate were more likely to develop voice behavior. Guanxi with team leaders negatively moderated the relationship between psychological safety climate and promotive and prohibitive voices, and the association between psychological safety climate and promotive and prohibitive voices was strong when guanxi with a team leader was weak. This study expands the scope of the application of guanxi, with team leaders as a moderating variable. It helps leaders focus on the psychological safety climate of employees, maintain harmonious and friendly interpersonal relationships with employees, enable employees to spontaneously contribute to the development of the organization, and enhance cohesion in the organization. Disassembly is a crucial process in industrial operations, especially in tasks requiring high precision and strict safety standards when handling components with collaborative robots. However, traditional methods often rely on rigid and sequential task planning, which makes it difficult to adapt to unforeseen changes or dynamic environments. This rigidity not only limits flexibility but also leads to prolonged execution times, as operators must follow predefined steps that do not allow for real-time adjustments. Although techniques like teleoperation have attempted to address these limitations, they often hinder direct human–robot collaboration within the same workspace, reducing effectiveness in dynamic environments. In response to these challenges, this research introduces an advanced human–robot interaction (HRI) system leveraging a mixed-reality (MR) interface embedded in a head-mounted device (HMD). The system enables operators to issue real-time control commands using multimodal inputs, including voice, gestures, and gaze tracking. These inputs are synchronized and processed via the Robot Operating System (ROS2), enabling dynamic and flexible task execution. Additionally, the integration of deep learning algorithms ensures precise detection and validation of disassembly components, enhancing accuracy. Experimental evaluations demonstrate significant improvements, including reduced task completion times, enhanced operator experience, and compliance with strict adherence to safety standards. This scalable solution offers broad applicability for general-purpose disassembly tasks, making it well-suited for complex industrial scenarios. Full article

In the field of high-altitude operations, the frequent occurrence of fall accidents is usually closely related to safety measures such as the incorrect use of safety locks and the wrong installation of safety belts. At present, the manual inspection method cannot achieve real-time monitoring of the safety status of the operators and is prone to serious consequences due to human negligence. This paper designs a new type of high-altitude operation safety device based on the STM32F103 microcontroller. This device integrates ultra-wideband (UWB) ranging technology, thin-film piezoresistive stress sensors, Beidou positioning, intelligent voice alarm, and intelligent safety lock. By fusing five modes, it realizes the functions of safety status detection and precise positioning. It can provide precise geographical coordinate positioning and vertical ground distance for the workers, ensuring the safety and standardization of the operation process. This safety device adopts multi-modal fusion high-altitude operation safety monitoring technology. The UWB module adopts a bidirectional ranging algorithm to achieve centimeter-level ranging accuracy. It can accurately determine dangerous heights of 2 m or more even in non-line-of-sight environments. The vertical ranging upper limit can reach 50 m, which can meet the maintenance height requirements of most transmission and distribution line towers. It uses a silicon carbide MEMS piezoresistive sensor innovatively, which is sensitive to stress detection and resistant to high temperatures and radiation. It builds a Beidou and Bluetooth cooperative positioning system, which can achieve centimeter-level positioning accuracy and an identification accuracy rate of over 99%. It can maintain meter-level positioning accuracy of geographical coordinates in complex environments. The development of this safety device can build a comprehensive and intelligent safety protection barrier for workers engaged in high-altitude operations. Full article

Preventable adverse drug events (ADEs) remain a significant threat in community settings, a challenge that is critical in community pharmacy settings where continuity of care and healthcare access can be limited. This qualitative study explored the perspectives of 13 community pharmacists through focus groups and interviews to identify barriers and propose solutions to enhance their role in patient care. Pharmacists emphasized their critical position in ensuring safe medication use, particularly for older adults managing multiple chronic conditions. Key findings revealed five themes: (1) defining medication safety as minimizing risk and empowering patients; (2) characteristics of the “perfect patient,” including medication awareness and proactive engagement; (3) the pharmacist’s role in detecting and resolving medication-related problems; (4) systemic barriers such as time constraints, lack of access to patient records, insufficient privacy, and undervaluation of pharmacists’ roles; and (5) proposed solutions including private counseling areas, increased staffing, integrated electronic health records, and legislative recognition of pharmacists as healthcare providers. Strengthening collaboration with physicians and empowering patients through education were also highlighted as key strategies. These findings underscore the need for systemic changes—especially in light of lessons learned during the pandemic—to support pharmacists in delivering comprehensive medication management and improving patient safety. Peer voice endorsement, an emerging focus in voice research, is recognized for its important role in enhancing work efficiency. This study aims to examine the impact of perceived organizational politics on peer voice endorsement. It also explores the underlying mechanisms by developing a model based on the cognitive-affective personality system theory. Study data were collected in three waves from 226 full-time employees in China. The hypotheses were examined using SPSS 25.0 and the PROCESS macro. Empirical results indicate that perceived organizational politics negatively affects both psychological safety and affective commitment. Psychological safety and affective commitment also play a facilitating role in peer voice endorsement. Moreover, these two factors serve as mediators in the relationship between perceived organizational politics and peer voice endorsement. By highlighting the pivotal role of perceived organizational politics, this study offers valuable insights into its implications for peer voice endorsement. It further underscores the significance of psychological safety and affective commitment, demonstrating their essential function in cultivating a work environment that encourages peer voice endorsement. Electric bicycles in elevators pose serious safety hazards. Fires in the confined space make escape difficult, and recent accidents involving e-bike fires have caused casualties and property damage. To prevent e-bikes from entering elevators and improve public safety, this design employs the Nezha development board as the upper computer for visual detection. It uses deep learning algorithms to recognize hazards like e-bikes. The lower computer orchestrates elevator controls, including voice alarms, door locking, and emergency halt. The system comprises two parts: the upper computer uses the YOLOv11 model for target detection, trained on a custom e-bike image dataset. The lower computer features an elevator control circuit for coordination. The workflow covers target detection algorithm application, dataset creation, and system validation. The experiments show that the YOLOv11 demonstrates superior e-bike detection performance, achieving 96.0% detection accuracy and 92.61% mAP@0.5, outperforming YOLOv3 by 6.77% and YOLOv8 by 15.91% in mAP, significantly outperforming YOLOv3 and YOLOv8. The system accurately identifies e-bikes and triggers safety measures with good practical effectiveness, substantially enhancing elevator safety. Full article

With the rapid development of intelligent transportation systems, voice assistants are increasingly integrated into driving environments, providing an effective means to mitigate the risks of fatigued driving. This study explored drivers’ interaction preferences with voice assistants under different fatigue states and proposed a fatigue-state-based dialogue-awakening mechanism. Using Grounded Theory and the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) framework, in-depth interviews were conducted with 25 drivers from diverse occupational backgrounds. To validate the qualitative findings, a driving simulation experiment was carried out to examine the effects of different voice interaction styles on driver fatigue arousal across various fatigue levels. Results indicated that heavily fatigued drivers preferred highly stimulating and interactive voice communication; mildly fatigued drivers tended toward gentle and socially supportive dialogue; while drivers in a non-fatigued state preferred minimal voice interference, activating voice assistance only when necessary. Significant occupational differences were also observed: long-haul truck drivers emphasized practicality and safety in voice assistants, taxi drivers favored voice interactions combining navigation and social content, and private car owners preferred personalized and emotional support. This study enriches the theoretical understanding of fatigue-sensitive voice interactions and provides practical guidance for the adaptive design of intelligent voice assistants, promoting their application in driving safety. Youth make up a fifth of the world’s population and will suffer the consequences of the climate catastrophe to differing extents depending on their social and geographical locations. The climate crisis is thus a matter of both intergenerational and racial/imperial injustice. Intersectional and interdisciplinary climate justice approaches are growing in the field of youth climate activism and, more often, these are necessarily engaging with collaborative methods to platform the voices of marginalised youth and those who live the colonial difference. Our paper provides early reflections from a youth climate activism artistic research project titled ‘Theatre of Climate Action: Amplifying Youth Voices for Climate Justice in Guadeloupe and South Africa’ (ToCA). In this project, sixteen young people aged 18-30 from South Africa and Guadeloupe collaborate to design, produce, and create theatre performances that reflect their exploration of climate justice through their lived experiences using artistic research methods. Specifically, we examine the opportunities and challenges in using the framework of Safe(r), Brave(r), and Riskier Spaces to support collaborative and emancipatory art-making practices that allow youth to become co-creators in this project. Insights revealed that an intentional embrace of safety, bravery, and risk as an ethico-political basis for art making was critical to cultivate a sense of community, trust, and belonging for youth co-creators. Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) is a predominantly utilized negative triboelectric material in triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). Its surface topography and synergistic interaction with positive triboelectric materials significantly impact the performance of TENGs. Here, we propose a simple and cost-effective approach to promote the performance of a dual-surface-modified TENG using microwave-structured aluminum (MW-Al) together with microcone-structured polydimethylsiloxane (MC-PDMS). Laser-engraved molds were employed to cold-imprint the MC-Al and pattern the MC-PDMS. Subsequently, the impact of the heights of microcones generated under varying laser powers on the performance of TENGs was explored. The output performance of the MW-MC-TENG significantly increased with microcone heights from 0 to 228 μm. The MW-MC228-TENG, with the highest cone heights, can produce the best open-circuit voltage of 157 V and a short-circuit current of 78.5 µA, resulting in a more than 37% improvement compared to the TENG using flat polymer. Furthermore, the MW-MC228-TENG showed a power density of 16.4 W/m2, sufficient to power 198 LEDs. Finally, the proposed TENG was integrated as a sensor into an impact warning system. We triggered a voice–visual warning when the TENG impacted, proving its potential for intelligent home safety monitoring. Full article

The Mosaic approach has been effectively used to gather children’s voices in early childhood settings using a children’s voices framework, although research translation using these voices is less reported. This paper bridges this gap by reporting on the voices of young children from military and veteran families and the free, narrative-based resources co-created using these voices to strengthen children’s capacity to survive and thrive in these families. Children from military families can experience frequent relocations, multiple and prolonged parental deployments and heightened anxiety about the safety of the member parent. Children from military and veteran families might also experience the challenges of living with a parent who is injured (physically, mentally and/or morally). The children’s voices gathered in an initial study revealed four themes about their experiences in Australian military and veteran families, namely, (i) Department of Defence supports, (ii) communication, (iii) acculturation and ritual, and (iv) narrative. The research team worked with the affected community and partners to co-create resources that aligned with these themes. To achieve this, the team conducted an additional online survey with community members who had lived experience in military and veteran families, along with research partners and professionals who supported these families. The aim was to identify the types of resources and content they felt would best support children’s psychosocial development. The children’s voices, subsequent research data, and the literature were woven together to co-create free, online research-based educational and psychosocial resources to strengthen the coping strategies of young children from these families. This will interest those who aim for children’s voices not only to be heard but to have an impact on the world. Full article

This paper presents an intelligent navigation wearable device for visually impaired individuals. The system aims to improve their independent travel capabilities and reduce the negative emotional impacts associated with visible disability indicators in travel tools. It employs an RGB-D camera and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensor to facilitate real-time obstacle detection and recognition via advanced point cloud processing and YOLO-based target recognition techniques. An integrated intelligent interaction module identifies the core obstacle from the detected obstacles and translates this information into multidimensional auxiliary guidance. Users receive haptic feedback to navigate obstacles, indicating directional turns and distances, while auditory prompts convey the identity and distance of obstacles, enhancing spatial awareness. The intuitive vibrational guidance significantly enhances safety during obstacle avoidance, and the voice instructions promote a better understanding of the surrounding environment. The device adopts an arm-mounted design, departing from the traditional cane structure that reinforces disability labeling and social stigma. This lightweight mechanical design prioritizes user comfort and mobility, making it more user-friendly than traditional stick-type aids. Experimental results demonstrate that this system outperforms traditional white canes and ultrasonic devices in reducing collision rates, particularly for mid-air obstacles, thereby significantly improving safety in dynamic environments. Furthermore, the system’s ability to vocalize obstacle identities and distances in advance enhances spatial perception and interaction with the environment. By eliminating the cane structure, this innovative wearable design effectively minimizes social stigma, empowering visually impaired individuals to travel independently with increased confidence, ultimately contributing to an improved quality of life. Sustainable marketing emphasizes the integration of social and environmental responsibility into business strategies, positioning employer branding as a vital tool for advancing sustainable organizational practices. Within the healthcare context of Jordan—a country facing unique socio-cultural and systemic challenges—employer branding may foster a culture that promotes safety and employee well-being. While the findings are context-specific, they offer preliminary insights that may be useful in similar healthcare environments in the Middle East or other collectivist settings. This study explores the use of employer branding as a strategic lever to enhance nurses’ safety voice behavior, a critical component of organizational safety and patient care, through the mediating role of employee engagement. Drawing on employer brand theory and self-determination theory, this research investigates how a strong employer brand image contributes to a more engaged nursing workforce, thereby encouraging proactive communication regarding safety concerns. Data were collected from 240 nurses employed at Jordanian hospitals between September and November 2024. The findings reveal that sustainable employer branding—characterized by transparent, ethical, and inclusive organizational values—significantly enhances employee engagement and, in turn, motivates safety voice behavior. By cultivating a supportive work environment that aligns with nurses’ intrinsic motivations, hospitals can improve not only internal communication around safety but also long-term organizational resilience and trust. This aligns with sustainable marketing principles, which advocate for responsible internal stakeholder engagement as part of a broader sustainability agenda. Full article

Workplace psychological safety (PS) has been recognized as crucial in mitigating organizational stressors and enhancing positive workplace outcomes, particularly in high-risk occupations such as healthcare and public safety. This scoping review aims to synthesize the existing literature on psychological safety in high-risk workplaces to identify key antecedents, workplace enhancements, and research gaps. A systematic search of studies published between 2010 and January 2025 was conducted across multiple databases, including CINAHL, Medline, ERIC, JSTOR, PsycInfo, Business Source Ultimate, and Sociological Abstract. Inclusion criteria focused on adult workers in high-risk workplace environments. Following screening and eligibility assessments, 16 studies from six countries were selected for analysis. Data were extracted and thematically analyzed based on leadership styles, organizational structures, and workplace culture related to psychological safety. The review identified three primary antecedents of psychological safety in high-risk workplaces: (1) inclusive and transformational leadership styles, (2) hierarchical structures and power dynamics, and (3) workplace climate and communication culture. Studies consistently found that inclusive leadership, ethical integrity, and transformational leadership were strongly associated with higher psychological safety levels. While hierarchical structures provided the necessary organization, overly rigid hierarchies often suppressed employee voice and innovation. A workplace culture characterized by trust, transparency, and open communication fosters greater psychological safety and improved teamwork and well-being. Full article

Due to accelerated urbanization, modern urban residents are facing increasing life pressures. Many citizens are experiencing situational aversion in daily commuting, and the deterioration in the traffic environment has led to psychological distress of varying degrees among urban dwellers. Cyclists, who account for about 7% of urban commuters, lack a sense of belonging in the urban space and experience significant deficiencies in the corresponding urban infrastructure, which causes more people to face significant barriers to choosing cycling as a mode of transportation. To address the aforementioned issues, this study proposes a bionic intelligent interaction helmet (BIIH) designed and validated based on the principles of bionics, which has undergone morphological design and structural validation. Constructed around the STM32-embedded development board, the BIIH is an integrated smart cycling helmet engineered to perceive environmental conditions and enable both human–machine interactions and environment–machine interactions. The system incorporates an array of sophisticated electronic components, including temperature and humidity sensors; ultrasonic sensors; ambient light sensors; voice recognition modules; cooling fans; LED indicators; and OLED displays. Additionally, the device is equipped with a mobile power supply, enhancing its portability and ensuring operational efficacy under dynamic conditions. Compared with conventional helmets designed for analogous purposes, the BIIH offers four distinct advantages. Firstly, it enhances the wearer’s environmental perception, thereby improving safety during operation. Secondly, it incorporates a real-time interaction function that optimizes the cycling experience while mitigating psychological stress. Thirdly, validated through bionic design principles, the BIIH exhibits increased specific stiffness, enhancing its structural integrity. Finally, the device’s integrated power and storage capabilities render it portable, autonomous, and adaptable, facilitating iterative improvements and fostering self-sustained development. Collectively, these features establish the BIIH as a methodological and technical foundation for exploring novel research scenarios and prospective applications. Full article

This article showcases Syrian refugees’ narratives of trauma and survival, through a phenomenological approach to in-depth research, with refugees who have resettled in Australia. It explores their journey towards resettlement, highlighting the nexus between displacement in the home–transit–host countries and the biopsychosocial determinants of mental health. Since the 2011 uprising, over 12 million Syrians have been displaced, both internally and worldwide. A refugee’s journey to safety often involves multiple displacements and exposure to dangerous, life-threatening, and dehumanising experiences. We have therefore adopted a qualitative approach that counters this dehumanisation by honouring the unique humanity in the voice of each of our research participants. This article aims to portray the nuanced interdependence between the individual, social, and political contexts of seven Syrian refugees’ lived experiences through an in-depth consideration of what they have told us, how they narrate their stories, and the meanings they ascribe to what they have experienced. The findings of this small yet eloquent study reinforce the insight that the journey to resettlement is far from linear and that resettlement itself is a process marked by recurrent and persistent complexities. The article suggests that the resilience of these refugees is best understood as an ethical and altruistic commitment to collective well-being, transcending notions of individual fortitude.
