This present study proposes different machine learning-based predictors for the assessment of the residual compressive strength of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) subjected to high temperatures. The investigation is based on several literature algorithmic approaches based on Artificial Neural Networks with distinct training algorithms (Bayesian Regularization, Levenberg–Marquardt, Scaled Conjugate Gradient, and Resilient Backpropagation), Support Vector Regression, and Random Forest methods. A training database of 150 experimental data points is derived from a careful literature review, incorporating temperature (20–800 °C), geometric ratio (height/diameter), and corresponding compressive strength values. A statistical analysis revealed complex non-linear relationships between variables, with strong negative correlation between temperature and strength and heteroscedastic data distribution, justifying the selection of advanced machine learning techniques. Feature engineering improved model performance through the incorporation of quadratic terms, interaction variables, and cyclic transformations. The Resilient Backpropagation algorithm demonstrated superior performance with the lowest prediction errors, followed by Bayesian Regularization. Support Vector Regression achieved competitive accuracy despite its simpler architecture. Experimental validation using specimens tested up to 800 °C showed a good reliability of the developed systems, with prediction errors ranging from 0.33% to 23.35% across different temperature ranges. Accurate estimation aboveground biomass (AGB) in winter wheat is crucial for yield assessment but remains challenging to achieve non-destructively. Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based remote sensing offers a promising solution at the plot level. Traditional field sampling methods, such as random plant selection or full-quadrat harvesting, are labor intensive and may introduce substantial errors compared to the canopy-level estimates obtained from UAV imagery. This study proposes a novel method using Fractional Vegetation Coverage (FVC) to adjust field-sampled AGB to per-plant biomass, enhancing the accuracy of AGB estimation using UAV imagery. Correlation analysis and Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) were employed for feature selection, and estimation models for leaf, spike, stem, and total AGB were constructed using Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Neural Network (NN) models. The aim was to evaluate the performance of multimodal data in estimating winter wheat leaves, spikes, stems, and total AGB. Results demonstrated that (1) FVC-adjusted per-plant biomass significantly improved correlations with most indicators, particularly during the filling stage, when the correlation between leaf biomass and NDVI increased by 56.1%; (2) RF and NN models outperformed SVM, with the optimal accuracies being R2 = 0.709, RMSE = 0.114 g for RF, R2 = 0.66, RMSE = 0.08 g for NN, and R2 = 0.557, RMSE = 0.117 g for SVM. Notably, the RF model achieved the highest prediction accuracy for leaf biomass during the flowering stage (R2 = 0.709, RMSE = 0.114); (3) among different water treatments, the R2 values of water and drought treatments were higher 0.723 and 0.742, respectively, indicating strong adaptability. This study provides an economically effective method for monitoring winter wheat growth in the field, contributing to improved agricultural productivity and fertilization management. Full article

Owing to the intricate variability of underwater environments, images suffer from degradation including light absorption, scattering, and color distortion. However, U-Net architectures severely limit global context utilization due to fixed-receptive-field convolutions, while traditional attention mechanisms incur quadratic complexity and fail to efficiently fuse spatial–frequency features. Unlike local enhancement-focused methods, HMENet integrates a transformer sub-network for long-range dependency modeling and dual-domain attention for bidirectional spatial–frequency fusion. This design increases the receptive field while maintaining linear complexity. On UIEB and EUVP datasets, HMENet achieves PSNR/SSIM of 25.96/0.946 and 27.92/0.927, surpassing HCLR-Net by 0.97 dB/1.88 dB, respectively. Full article

In order to meet the needs for the rapid detection of crop growth and support variable management in farmland, an intelligent chlorophyll content in cotton leaves (CCC) detection system based on hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technology was designed and developed. The system includes a near-infrared (NIR) hyperspectral image acquisition module, a spectral extraction module, a main control processor module, a model acceleration module, a display module, and a power module, which are used to achieve rapid and non-destructive detection of chlorophyll content. Firstly, spectral images of cotton canopy leaves during the seedling, budding, and flowering-boll stages were collected, and the dataset was optimized using the first-order differential algorithm (1D) and Savitzky–Golay five-term quadratic smoothing (SG) algorithm. The results showed that SG had better processing performance. Secondly, the sparrow search algorithm optimized backpropagation neural network (SSA-BPNN) and one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1DCNN) algorithms were selected to establish a chlorophyll content detection model. The results showed that the determination coefficients Rp2 of the chlorophyll SG-1DCNN detection model during the seedling, budding, and flowering-boll stages were 0.92, 0.97, and 0.95, respectively, and the model performance was superior to SG-SSA-BPNN. Therefore, the SG-1DCNN model was embedded into the detection system. Finally, a CCC intelligent detection system was developed using Python 3.12.3, MATLAB 2020b, and ENVI, and the system was subjected to application testing. The results showed that the average detection accuracy of the CCC intelligent detection system in the three stages was 98.522%, 99.132%, and 97.449%, respectively. Meanwhile, the average detection time for the samples is only 20.12 s. The research results can effectively solve the problem of detecting the nutritional status of cotton in the field environment, meet the real-time detection needs of the field environment, and provide solutions and technical support for the intelligent perception of crop production. As global climate change intensifies and the transition to clean energy accelerates, lithium-ion batteries—critical components of electric vehicles—are becoming increasingly vital in international trade networks. This study investigates the structural evolution and determinants of the electric vehicle lithium-ion battery trade network among European Union (EU) member states from 2012 to 2023, employing social network analysis and the multiple regression quadratic assignment procedure method. The findings demonstrate the transformation of the network from a centralized and loosely connected structure, with Germany as the dominant hub, to a more interconnected and decentralized system in which Poland and Hungary emerge as the leading players. Key network metrics, such as the density, clustering coefficients, and average path lengths, reveal increased regional trade connectivity and enhanced supply chain efficiency. The analysis identifies geographic and economic proximity, logistics performance, labor cost differentials, energy resource availability, and venture capital investment as significant drivers of trade flows, highlighting the interaction among spatial, economic, and infrastructural factors in shaping the network. Based on these findings, this study underscores the need for targeted policy measures to support Central and Eastern European countries, including investment in logistics infrastructure, technological innovation, and regional cooperation initiatives, to strengthen their integration into the supply chain and bolster their export capacity. Furthermore, fostering balanced inter-regional collaborations is essential in building a resilient trade network. Continued investment in transportation infrastructure and innovation is recommended to sustain the EU’s competitive advantage in the global electric vehicle lithium-ion battery supply chain. With the growing global demand for clean energy, the accuracy of wind-power forecasting plays a vital role in ensuring the stable operation of power systems. However, wind-power generation is significantly influenced by meteorological conditions and is characterized by high uncertainty and multiscale fluctuations. Traditional recurrent neural network (RNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) models, although capable of handling sequential data, struggle with modeling long-term temporal dependencies due to the vanishing gradient problem; thus, they are now rarely used. Recently, Transformer models have made notable progress in sequence modeling compared to RNNs and LSTM models. Nevertheless, when dealing with long wind-power sequences, their quadratic computational complexity (O(L2)) leads to low efficiency, and their global attention mechanism often fails to capture local periodic features accurately, tending to overemphasize redundant information while overlooking key temporal patterns. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a wind-power forecasting method based on dimension-transformed collaborative multidimensional multiscale attention (DTCMMA). This method first employs fast Fourier transform (FFT) to automatically identify the main periodic components in wind-power data, reconstructing the one-dimensional time series as a two-dimensional spatiotemporal representation, thereby explicitly encoding periodic features. Based on this, a collaborative multidimensional multiscale attention (CMMA) mechanism is designed, which hierarchically integrates channel, spatial, and pixel attention to adaptively capture complex spatiotemporal dependencies. Considering the geometric characteristics of the reconstructed data, asymmetric convolution kernels are adopted to enhance feature extraction efficiency. Experiments on multiple wind-farm datasets and energy-related datasets demonstrate that DTCMMA outperforms mainstream methods such as Transformer, iTransformer, and TimeMixer in long-sequence forecasting tasks, achieving improvements in MSE performance by 34.22%, 2.57%, and 0.51%, respectively. The model’s training speed also surpasses that of the fastest baseline by 300%, significantly improving both prediction accuracy and computational efficiency. This provides an efficient and accurate solution for wind-power forecasting and contributes to the further development and application of wind energy in the global energy mix. Full article

In today’s fast-paced world of software development, it is essential to ensure that programs run smoothly without any issues. When dealing with complex applications, the objective is to predict and resolve problems before they escalate. The prediction of software defects is a crucial element in maintaining the stability and reliability of software systems. This research addresses this need by combining advanced techniques (ensemble techniques) with seventeen machine learning algorithms for predicting software defects, categorised into three types: semi-supervised, self-supervised, and supervised. In supervised learning, we mainly experimented with several algorithms, including random forest, k-nearest neighbors, support vector machines, logistic regression, gradient boosting, AdaBoost classifier, quadratic discriminant analysis, Gaussian training, decision tree, passive aggressive, and ridge classifier. In semi-supervised learning, we tested are autoencoders, semi-supervised support vector machines, and generative adversarial networks. For self-supervised learning, we utilized are autoencoder, simple framework for contrastive learning of representations, and bootstrap your own latent. After comparing the performance of each machine learning algorithm, we identified the most effective one. Among these, the gradient boosting AdaBoost classifier demonstrated superior performance based on an accuracy of 90%, closely followed by the AdaBoost classifier at 89%. Finally, we applied ensemble methods to predict software defects, leveraging the collective strengths of these diverse approaches. This enables software developers to significantly enhance defect prediction accuracy, thereby improving overall system robustness and reliability. Full article

Path planning and collision avoidance are essential components of an autonomous driving system (ADS), ensuring safe navigation in complex environments shared with other road users. High-quality planning and reliable obstacle avoidance strategies are essential for advancing the SAE autonomy level of autonomous vehicles, which can largely reduce the risk of traffic accidents. In daily driving scenarios, lane changing is a common maneuver used to avoid unexpected obstacles such as parked vehicles or suddenly appearing pedestrians. Notably, lane-changing behavior is also widely regarded as a key evaluation criterion in driver license examinations, highlighting its practical importance in real-world driving. Motivated by this observation, this paper aims to develop an autonomous lane-changing system capable of dynamically avoiding obstacles in multi-lane traffic environments. To achieve this objective, we propose a hierarchical decision-making and control framework in which a Double Deep Q-Network (DDQN) agent operates as the high-level planner to select lane-level maneuvers, while a High-Order Control Lyapunov Function–High-Order Control Barrier Function–based Quadratic Program (HOCLF-HOCBF-QP) serves as the low-level controller to ensure safe and stable trajectory tracking under dynamic constraints. Simulation studies are used to evaluate the planning efficiency and overall collision avoidance performance of the proposed hierarchical control framework. The results demonstrate that the system is capable of autonomously executing appropriate lane-changing maneuvers to avoid multiple obstacles in complex multi-lane traffic environments. In computational cost tests, the low-level controller operates at 100 Hz with an average solve time of 0.66 ms per step, and the high-level policy operates at 5 Hz with an average solve time of 0.60 ms per step. The results demonstrate real-time capability in autonomous driving systems. Full article

Kolmogorov–Arnold networks (KANs) represent a promising modeling framework for applications requiring interpretability. In this study, we investigate the use of KANs to analyze time series of water quality parameters obtained from a publicly available dataset related to an aquaponic environment. Two water quality indices (WQIs) were computed—a linear case based on the weighted average WQI, and a non-linear case using the weighted quadratic mean (WQM) WQI, both derived from three water parameters: pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), and temperature. For each case, KAN models were trained to predict the respective WQI, yielding explicit algebraic expressions with low prediction errors and clear input–output mathematical relationships. Model performance was evaluated using standard regression metrics, with R2 values exceeding 0.96 on the hold-out test set across all cases. Specifically for the non-linear WQM case, we trained 15 classical regressors using the LazyPredict Python library. The top three models were selected based on validation performance. They were then compared against the KAN model and its symbolic expressions using a 5-fold cross-validation protocol on a temporally shifted test set (approximately one month after the training period), without retraining. Results show that KAN slightly outperforms the best tested baseline regressor (multilayer perceptron, MLP), with average R2 scores of 0.998±0.001 and 0.996±0.001, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of KAN in terms of predictive performance, comparable to well-established algorithms. Moreover, the ability of KAN to extract data-driven, interpretable, and lightweight symbolic models makes it a valuable tool for applications where accuracy, transparency, and model simplification are critical. The neural network-based classification of endoscopy images plays a key role in diagnosing gastrointestinal diseases. However, current models for estimating ulcerative colitis (UC) severity still lack high performance, highlighting the need for more advanced and accurate solutions. This study aims to apply a state-of-the-art hybrid neural network architecture—combining convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and transformer models—to classify intestinal endoscopy images, utilizing the largest publicly available annotated UC dataset. A 10-fold cross-validation is performed on the LIMUC dataset using CoAtNet models, combined with the Class Distance Weighted Cross-Entropy (CDW-CE) loss function. The best model is compared against pure CNN and transformer baselines by evaluating performance metrics, including quadratically weighted kappa (QWK) and macro F1, for full Mayo score classification, and kappa and F1 scores for remission classification. The CoAtNet models outperformed both pure CNN and transformer models. The most effective model, CoAtNet_2, improved classification accuracy by 1.76% and QWK by 1.46% over the previous state-of-the-art models on the LIMUC dataset. Other metrics, including F1 score, also showed clear improvements. Experiments show that the CoAtNet model, which integrates convolutional and transformer components, improves UC assessment from endoscopic images, enhancing AI’s role in computer-aided diagnosis. In this paper, a very fast and reliable strategy for load restoration utilizing optimal distribution feeder reconfiguration (DFR) is developed. The automated network configuration switches can improve the resilience of a microgrid (MG) equipped with a centralized and coordinated energy management system (EMS). The EMS has the authority to reconfigure the distribution network to fulfil high priority loads in the entire network, at the lowest cost, while maintaining the voltage at desirable bounds. In the case of islanded operation, the EMS is responsible for serving the high priority loads, including the establishment of new MGs, if necessary. This paper discusses the main functionality of the EMS in both grid-connected and islanded operation modes of MGs. The proposed model is developed based on a mixed-integer quadratically constrained program (MIQCP), including an optimal power flow (OPF) problem to minimize the power losses in normal operation and the load shedding in islanded operation, while keeping voltage and capacity constraints. The proposed framework is implemented on a modified IEEE 33-bus test system and the results show that the model is fast and accurate enough to be utilized in real-life situations without a loss of accuracy. This study presents advanced control and energy management strategies for uncertain wind energy systems using a Takagi–Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy modeling framework. To address key challenges, such as system uncertainties, external disturbances, and input delays, the study integrates a fuzzy H∞ robust control approach with a neural network-based delay compensation mechanism. A fuzzy observer-based H∞ tracking controller is developed to enhance robustness and minimize the impact of disturbances. The stability conditions are rigorously derived using a quadratic Lyapunov function, H∞ performance criteria, and Young’s inequality and are expressed as Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs) for computational efficiency. In parallel, a neural network-based controller is employed to compensate for the input delays introduced by online learning processes. Furthermore, an energy management layer is incorporated to regulate the power flow and optimize energy utilization under varying operating conditions. The proposed framework effectively combines control and energy coordination to improve the systems’ performance. The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed strategies, demonstrating enhanced stability, robustness, delay tolerance, and energy efficiency in wind energy systems. Full article

Underwater image enhancement is a challenging task due to the unique optical properties of water, which often lead to color distortion, low contrast, and detail loss. At the present stage, the methods based on the CNN have the problem of insufficient global attention, and the methods based on Transformer generally have the problem of quadratic complexity. To address this challenge, we propose a dual-branch network architecture based on the W-shaped Mamba: UWMambaNet. Our method integrates the color contrast enhancement branch and the detail enhancement branch, and each branch is dedicated to improving specific aspects of underwater images. The color contrast enhancement branch utilizes the RGB and Lab color spaces and uses the Mamba block for advanced feature fusion to enhance color fidelity and contrast. The detail enhancement branch adopts a multi-scale feature extraction strategy to capture fine and contextual details through parallel convolutional paths. The Mamba module is added to the dual branches, and state-space modeling is used to capture the long-range dependencies and spatial relationships in the image data. This enables effective modeling of the complex interactions and light propagation effects inherent in the underwater environment. Experimental results show that our method significantly improves the visual quality of underwater images and is superior to existing technologies in terms of quantitative indicators and visualization effects; compared to the best candidate models on the UIEB and EUVP datasets, UWMambaNet improves UCIQE by 3.7% and 2.4%, respectively. The increasing penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) and power electronic loads challenges the modeling and control of modern distribution networks (DNs). The traditional models often fail to capture the complex aggregate dynamics required for advanced control strategies. This paper proposes a novel framework for DN power regulation based on Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (NODEs) and Model Predictive Control (MPC). NODEs are employed to develop a data-driven, continuous-time dynamic model capturing the aggregate relationship between the voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) and the network’s power consumption, using only PCC measurements. Building upon this NODE model, an MPC strategy is designed to regulate the DN’s active power by manipulating the PCC voltage. To ensure computational tractability for real-time applications, a local linearization technique is applied to the NODE dynamics within the MPC, transforming the optimization problem into a standard Quadratic Programming (QP) problem that can be solved efficiently. The framework’s efficacy is comprehensively validated through simulations. The NODE model demonstrates high accuracy in predicting the dynamic behavior in a DN against a detailed simulator, with maximum relative errors below 0.35% for active power. The linearized NODE-MPC controller shows effective tracking performance, constraint handling, and computational efficiency, with typical QP solve times below 0.1 s within a 0.1 s control interval. The validation includes offline tests using the NODE model and online co-simulation studies using CloudPSS and Python via Redis. Application scenarios, including Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) and supply–demand balancing, further illustrate the practical potential of the proposed approach for enhancing the operation and efficiency of modern distribution networks. Deep learning has achieved remarkable success in hyperspectral image (HSI) classification, attributed to its powerful feature extraction capabilities. However, existing methods face several challenges: Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are limited in modeling long-range spectral dependencies because of their limited receptive fields; Transformers are constrained by their quadratic computational complexity; and Mamba-based methods fail to fully exploit spatial–spectral interactions when handling high-dimensional HSI data. To address these limitations, we propose MRFP-Mamba, a novel Multi-Receptive-Field Parallel Mamba architecture that integrates hierarchical spatial feature extraction with efficient modeling of spatial–spectral dependencies. The proposed MRFP-Mamba introduces two key innovation modules: (1) A multi-receptive-field convolutional module employing parallel 1×1, 3×3, 5×5, and 7×7 kernels to capture fine-to-coarse spatial features, thereby improving discriminability for multi-scale objects; and (2) a parameter-optimized Vision Mamba branch that models global spatial–spectral relationships through structured state space mechanisms. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed MRFP-Mamba consistently surpasses existing CNN-, Transformer-, and state space model (SSM)-based approaches across four widely used hyperspectral image (HSI) benchmark datasets: PaviaU, Indian Pines, Houston 2013, and WHU-Hi-LongKou. Compared with MambaHSI, our MRFP-Mamba achieves improvements in Overall Accuracy (OA) by 0.69%, 0.30%, 0.40%, and 0.97%, respectively, thereby validating its superior classification capability and robustness.
