Pharmacist-Driven Chondroprotection in Osteoarthritis: A Multifaceted Approach Using Patient Education, Information Visualization, and Lifestyle Integration

Osteoarthritis (OA) remains a major contributor to pain and disability; however, the current management is largely reactive, focusing on symptoms rather than preventing irreversible cartilage loss. This review first examines the mechanistic foundations for pharmacological chondroprotection—illustrating how conventional agents, such as glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate, can potentially restore extracellular matrix (ECM) components, may attenuate catabolic enzyme activity, and might enhance joint lubrication—and explores the delivery challenges posed by avascular cartilage and synovial diffusion barriers. Subsequently, a practical “What–How–When” framework is introduced to guide community pharmacists in risk screening, DMOAD selection, chronotherapeutic dosing, safety monitoring, and lifestyle integration, as exemplified by the CHONDROMOVING infographic brochure designed for diverse health literacy levels. Building on these strategies, the P4–4P Chondroprotection Framework is proposed, integrating predictive risk profiling (physicians), preventive pharmacokinetic and chronotherapy optimization (pharmacists), personalized biomechanical interventions (physiotherapists), and participatory self-management (patients) into a unified, feedback-driven OA care model. To translate this framework into routine practice, I recommend the development of DMOAD-specific clinical guidelines, incorporation of chondroprotective chronotherapy and interprofessional collaboration into health-professional curricula, and establishment of multidisciplinary OA management pathways—supported by appropriate reimbursement structures, to support preventive, team-based management, and prioritization of large-scale randomized trials and real-world evidence studies to validate the long-term structural, functional, and quality of life benefits of synchronized DMOAD and exercise-timed interventions. This comprehensive, precision-driven paradigm aims to shift OA care from reactive palliation to true disease modification, preserving cartilage integrity and improving the quality of life for millions worldwide. Mobile Banking Adoption: A Multi-Factorial Study on Social Influence, Compatibility, Digital Self-Efficacy, and Perceived Cost Among Generation Z Consumers in the United States

The introduction of mobile banking is essential in today’s financial sector, where technological innovation plays a critical role. To remain competitive in the current market, businesses must analyze client attitudes and perspectives, as these influence long-term demand and overall profitability. While previous studies have explored general adoption behaviors, limited research has examined how individual factors such as social influence, lifestyle compatibility, financial technology self-efficacy, and perceived usage cost affect mobile banking adoption among specific generational cohorts. This study addresses that gap by offering insights into these variables, contributing to the growing literature on mobile banking adoption, and presenting actionable recommendations for financial institutions targeting younger market segments. Using a structured questionnaire survey, data were collected from both users and non-users of mobile banking among the Gen Z population in the United States. The regression model significantly predicts mobile banking adoption, with an intercept of 0.548 (p < 0.001). Among the independent variables, perceived cost of usage has the strongest positive effect on adoption (B=0.857, β=0.722, p < 0.001), suggesting that adoption increases when mobile banking is perceived as more affordable. Social influence also has a significant positive impact (B=0.642, β=0.643, p < 0.001), indicating that peer influence is a central driver of adoption decisions. However, self-efficacy shows a significant negative relationship (B=0.343, β=0.339, p < 0.001), and lifestyle compatibility was found to be statistically insignificant (p=0.615). These findings suggest that reducing perceived costs, through lower fees, data bundling, or clearer communication about affordability, can directly enhance adoption among Gen Z consumers. Furthermore, leveraging peer influence via referral rewards, Partnerships with influencers, and in-app social features can increase user adoption. Since digital self-efficacy presents a barrier for some, banks should prioritize simplifying user interfaces and offering guided assistance, such as tutorials or chat-based support. Future research may employ longitudinal designs or analyze real-life transaction data for a more objective understanding of behavior. Additional variables like trust, perceived risk, and regulatory policies, not included in this study, should be integrated into future models to offer a more comprehensive analysis. Full article

This study investigates the bond behavior of fabric-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composites with three common masonry substrates—solid clay bricks (SBs), perforated bricks (PBs), and concrete hollow blocks (HBs)—using knitted polyester grille (KPG) fabric. Through uniaxial tensile tests of the KPG fabric and FRCM system, along with single-lap and double-lap shear tests, the interfacial debonding modes, load-slip responses, and composite utilization ratio were evaluated. Key findings reveal that (i) SB and HB substrates predominantly exhibited fabric slippage (FS) or matrix–fabric (MF) debonding, while PB substrates consistently failed at the matrix–substrate (MS) interface, due to their smooth surface texture. (ii) Prism specimens with mortar joints showed enhanced interfacial friction, leading to higher load fluctuations compared to brick units. PB substrates demonstrated the lowest peak stress (69.64–74.33 MPa), while SB and HB achieved comparable peak stresses (133.91–155.95 MPa). (iii) The FRCM system only achieved a utilization rate of 12–30% in fabric and reinforcement systems. The debonding failure at the matrix–substrate interface is one of the reasons that cannot be ignored, and exploring methods to improve the bonding performance between the matrix–substrate interface is the next research direction. HB bricks have excellent bonding properties, and it is recommended to prioritize their use in retrofit applications, followed by SB bricks. These findings provide insights into optimizing the application of FRCM reinforcement systems in masonry structures. Full article

I use Shakespeare to teach acting to students. A key to my work is impression management: what Shakespeare called reputation. I view the management of reputation as a route into Shakespearean character, which I present to students as a mask attuned to sacred values. The physical basis from which the actor can discover the mask is what Hamlet calls ‘smoothness’, which I explain with an acting exercise. We discover the force of sacred values by noticing the ubiquity of keywords in the text such as honor, virtue, reason, shame and faith. By holding characters to the fire of their sacred values, I shift the actor’s attention from an individualist idea of authentic representation towards a sense of character as a battleground of mind-shaping. The resulting performance work is scaled up to a more expansive and energized degree than the actor may be used to delivering in a social media-saturated environment in which what is often prioritized is a quasi-confessional self-revelation. The revelation of an inner life then emerges through a committed exploration of antithetical relations, a strategy basic both to mask work and to Shakespeare’s poetics. The actor finds their personal connection to the material by facing the contradiction between the objective standards of behavior demanded of the character and the character’s attempt to control their status, that is, how they are seen. The final value of the performance work is that the actor learns how to manage their reputation so that they come to appear like a giant who is seen from a distance. Full article

The reliability of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) energy storage battery systems is critical for ensuring their safe operation and efficient mission execution, and has the potential to significantly advance applications in logistics, monitoring, and emergency response. This paper reviews theoretical and technical advancements in UAV battery reliability, covering definitions and metrics, modeling approaches, state estimation, fault diagnosis, and battery management system (BMS) technologies. Based on international standards, reliability encompasses performance stability, environmental adaptability, and safety redundancy, encompassing metrics such as the capacity retention rate, mean time between failures (MTBF), and thermal runaway warning time. Modeling methods for reliability include mathematical, data-driven, and hybrid models, which are evaluated for accuracy and efficiency under dynamic conditions. State estimation focuses on five key battery parameters and compares neural network, regression, and optimization algorithms in complex flight scenarios. Fault diagnosis involves feature extraction, time-series modeling, and probabilistic inference, with multimodal fusion strategies being proposed for faults like overcharge and thermal runaway. BMS technologies include state monitoring, protection, and optimization, and balancing strategies and the potential of intelligent algorithms are being explored. Challenges in this field include non-unified standards, limited model generalization, and complexity in diagnosing concurrent faults. Future research should prioritize multi-physics-coupled modeling, AI-driven predictive techniques, and cybersecurity to enhance the reliability and intelligence of battery systems in order to support the sustainable development of unmanned systems. Technological roadmaps are essential tools for managing and planning complex projects, especially in the rapidly evolving field of space exploration. Defined as dynamic schedules, they support strategic and long-term planning while coordinating current and future objectives with particular technology solutions. Currently, the available methodologies are mostly built on experts’ opinions and in just few cases, methodologies and tools have been developed to support the decision makers with a rational approach. In any case, all the available approaches are meant to draw “ideal” maturation plans. Therefore, it is deemed essential to develop an integrate new algorithms able to decision guidelines on “non-nominal” scenarios. In this context, Politecnico di Torino, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and Thales Alenia Space–Italia, developed the Technology Roadmapping Strategy (TRIS), a multi-step process designed to create robust and data-driven roadmaps. However, one of the main concerns with its initial implementation was that TRIS did not account for time and budget estimates specific to the space exploration environment, nor was it capable of generating alternative development paths under constrained conditions. This paper discloses two main significant updates to TRIS methodology: (1) improved time and budget estimation to better reflect the specific challenges of space exploration scenarios and (2) the capability of generating alternative roadmaps, i.e., alternative technological maturation paths in resource-constrained scenarios, balancing financial and temporal limitations. The application of the developed routines to available case studies confirms the tool’s ability to provide consistent planning outputs across multiple scenarios without exceeding 20% deviation from expert-based judgements available as reference. The results demonstrate the potential of the enhanced methodology in supporting strategic decision making in early-phase mission planning, ensuring adaptability to changing conditions, optimized use of time and financial resources, as well as guaranteeing an improved flexibility of the tool. By integrating data-driven prioritization, uncertainty modeling, and resource-constrained planning, TRIS equips mission planners with reliable tools to navigate the complexities of space exploration projects. This methodology ensures that roadmaps remain adaptable to changing conditions and optimized for real-world challenges, supporting the sustainable advancement of space exploration initiatives. This study explores the internationalization of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), emphasizing the critical role of competent managerial abilities. Specifically, it investigates the sustainable role of managerial capabilities in directly facilitating SMEs’ entry into international markets, or whether these capabilities first assist in risk management and resource utilization, supporting international expansion. We propose that SMEs with skilled and capable managers are better equipped to manage internal risks and leverage available resources, thereby enhancing their internationalization efforts. Drawing on empirical data from 191 Chinese SMEs, our findings support the proposed model, revealing that managerial capabilities contribute to internationalization indirectly—this relationship is fully mediated by risk management and resource utilization. This study recommends that SMEs prioritize building a sustainable management team capable of navigating internal challenges to successfully pursue international growth. Our research contributes to the resource-based view and the Uppsala model of internationalization by contextualizing the role of managerial capabilities, risk management, and resource utilization in the internationalization processes of SMEs. Background/Objectives: International students pursuing higher education in the United States face unique challenges that increase their risk of food insecurity, including limited financial resources, employment restrictions, and cultural barriers. While food insecurity among domestic students has been widely studied, limited research focuses on the lived experiences of international graduate students. This study explores the challenges, perceptions, and coping strategies related to food insecurity among international graduate students at a large public university in North Texas. Methods: This qualitative, ethnographic study involved 20 semi-structured interviews with international graduate students who were clients of the university’s food pantry. Participants were recruited using purposive convenience sampling. Interviews focused on students’ experiences with food access, financial constraints, campus resources, and cultural food preferences. Data were analyzed using thematic coding in MAXQDA. Two standardized food insecurity measures—the USDA and FAO scales—were also administered and analyzed using SPSS. Results: Findings revealed that 85% of participants experienced limited access to nutritious and culturally appropriate foods, with 70% reporting hunger due to financial constraints. Themes included lack of cooking skills, limited campus food options, difficulty accessing familiar groceries, and limited job opportunities. Students expressed that food insecurity significantly impacted their physical health, mental well-being, and social lives, though many continued to prioritize academics over personal nourishment. Conclusions: Food insecurity among international graduate students is multifaceted, shaped by financial, cultural, and institutional barriers. Addressing this issue requires culturally sensitive interventions, improved access to diverse food options, tailored student support services, and institutional efforts to better understand and meet the needs of international students. The intrinsic relationship between food and health has led to growing interest in functional foods, particularly among athletes seeking to optimize performance and recovery. This study investigates the impact of product information and sensory attributes on athletes’ willingness to pay for an innovative high-protein bread. Utilizing a two-treatment experimental design, athletes were exposed to sensory evaluations either before or after receiving information. A combination of hedonic sensory analysis and economic evaluation assessed preferences through a non-hypothetical auction. Findings show that both sensory attributes—especially taste and aroma—and product information significantly influenced willingness to pay. The order of presentation played a crucial role: providing information first enhanced perceived value more strongly. While sensory evaluation moderately increased willingness to pay, product information had a stronger impact. A key contribution of this study is its novel evidence on how athletes balance sensory and informational cues in food evaluation—an aspect rarely explored. Contrary to assumptions that athletes ignore sensory quality due to their focus on nutrition, they did value sensory aspects, though they prioritized product information. These findings suggest that developing functional foods for athletes should integrate nutritional benefits and sensory appeal, as both elements contribute to acceptance and potential market success. Background/Objectives: Prioritizing diet- or exercise-related self-efficacy and social support with their interactions may improve the effectiveness of interventions aimed at increasing daily fruit/vegetable intake and exercise, thereby reducing the risk of metabolic disorders in abdominally obese women. This study aimed to identify the profiles of diet- or exercise-related self-efficacy and social support among women with abdominal obesity, examine profiles related to insufficient fruit/vegetable intake and exercise, and explore associating factors of these profiles. Methods: A cross-sectional investigation in central south mainland China collected sociodemographic, anthropometric, and health-related variables, diet-related self-efficacy (Diet-SE) and social support (Diet-SS), exercise-related self-efficacy (Exercise-SE) and social support (Exercise-SS), and daily fruit/vegetable intake and exercise. We used latent profile analysis to identify distinct profiles, and binary logistic regression to examine the profiles’ behaviors and associating factors. Results: A total of 327 abdominally obese women were categorized into four profiles of Diet-SE and Diet-SS, and five profiles of Exercise-SE and Exercise-SS. Women in the Diet Dual-Low Group were associated with insufficient daily fruits/vegetables intake. Women in the Exercise Dual-Low Group or Exercise-SS Medium–Low Group were more likely to engage in insufficient daily exercise. Conclusions: Our findings align with previous evidence that women with low diet- or exercise-related self-efficacy and social support are at increased risk for insufficient daily fruit/vegetable intake or exercise. Additionally, medium Exercise-SS is associated with insufficient exercise behaviors, suggesting that interventions targeting healthy exercise should be initiated earlier among women with medium Exercise-SS, rather than waiting for it to decline to low level. Entropy is a foundational concept across scientific domains, playing a role in understanding disorder, randomness, and uncertainty within systems. This study applies Shannon’s entropy in information theory to evaluate and manage complexity in industrial supply chain management. The purpose of the study is to propose a quantitative modeling method, employing Shannon’s entropy model as a proxy to assess the complexity in SCs. The underlying assumption is that information entropy serves as a proxy for the complexity of the SC. The research method is quantitative modeling, which is applied to four focal companies from the agrifood and metalworking industries in Southern Brazil. The results showed that companies prioritizing cost and quality exhibit lower complexity compared to those emphasizing flexibility and dependability. Additionally, information flows related to specially engineered products and deliveries show significant differences in average entropies, indicating that organizational complexities vary according to competitive priorities. The implications of this suggest that a focus on cost and quality in SCM may lead to lower complexity, in opposition to a focus on flexibility and dependability, influencing strategic decision making in industrial contexts. This research introduces the novel application of information entropy to assess and control complexity within industrial SCs. Future studies can explore and validate these insights, contributing to the evolving field of supply chain management. Full article

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease that remains incurable. An increasing number of proteomic genome-wide association studies (GWASs) are emerging, offering immense potential for identifying novel therapeutic targets for diseases. This study aims to identify potential therapeutic targets for RA based on human plasma proteome. Methods: Protein quantitative trait loci were extracted and integrated from eight large-scale proteomic GWASs. Proteome-wide Mendelian randomization (Pro-MR) was performed to prioritize proteins causally associated with RA. Further validation of the reliability and stratification of prioritized proteins was performed using MR meta-analysis, colocalization, and transcriptome-wide summary-data-based MR. Subsequently, prioritized proteins were characterized through protein–protein interaction and enrichment analyses, pleiotropy assessment, genetically engineered mouse models, cell-type-specific expression analysis, and druggability evaluation. Phenotypic expansion analyses were also conducted to explore the effects of the prioritized proteins on phenotypes such as endocrine disorders, cardiovascular diseases, and other immune-related diseases. Results: Pro-MR prioritized 32 unique proteins associated with RA risk. After validation, prioritized proteins were stratified into four reliability tiers. Prioritized proteins showed interactions with established RA drug targets and were enriched in an immune-related functional profile. Four trans-associated proteins exhibited vertical or horizontal pleiotropy with specific genes or proteins. Genetically engineered mouse models for 18 prioritized protein-coding genes displayed abnormal immune phenotypes. Single-cell RNA sequencing data were used to validate the enriched expression of several prioritized proteins in specific synovial cell types. Nine prioritized proteins were identified as targets of existing drugs in clinical trials or were already approved. Further phenome-wide MR and mediation analyses revealed the effects and potential mediating roles of some prioritized proteins on other phenotypes. Conclusions: This study identified 32 plasma proteins as potential therapeutic targets for RA, expanding the prospects for drug discovery and deepening insights into RA pathogenesis. Full article

Since the end of the Civil War, Cambodia has pursued economic development to enhance livelihoods, particularly in rural areas, where land is a critical resource. Previous studies have indicated that the country has changed land use and land cover. However, they have not explained how these changes can improve the livelihoods of local communities, thereby mitigating their negative impacts through an asset-based approach. Battambang Province, in the northwestern region, was the battleground until political integration in 1996. Since then, the province has been home to immigrants exploring the lands for livelihood. Thus, this study aims to examine agricultural livelihoods in the villages of Dei Kraham and Ou Toek Thla, located west of Battambang Town. These were selected because of their common characteristics. Adopting a quantitative approach and a sustainable livelihood framework, this study employed stratified random sampling to select 123 families for interviews across three population subgroups: old settlers, new settlers, and young settlers. In situ information was collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Kruskal–Wallis tests to assess the livelihood assets underlying the physical, natural, human, financial, and social capital. The statistical analysis results reveal no significant differences (p-value = 0.079) in livelihood assets between the strata at the village level. Meanwhile, significant differences were observed in physical, human, and financial capital between old and young settlers when examining the subgroups (p-value 0.000). The extent of the land resources held by old settlers was associated with household income and livelihoods related to agriculture. Based on livelihood asset scores, nearly half of the new settlers (0.49–0.5) and a quarter of the young settlers (0.47) are vulnerable groups requiring support. The youth will soon face an uncertain future if they do not prioritize education. Full article

This study examines how medically disqualified NCAA Division I student-athletes experience the abrupt end of their athletic careers and how those experiences reflect broader cultural and psychological dynamics within college sport. Utilizing an interpretive phenomenology analysis, we explore if the experiences of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I student-athletes, who become medically disqualified, can be conceptualized by researchers through the stages of the Kübler-Ross model addressing grief responses. Unlike the prior research criticizing the application of the model to injured athletes, we found ample support for the possible applicability of each emotional stage; however, our study findings also reveal that the staged transitions do not necessarily follow in sequential order, as suggested by Kübler-Ross. Thus, the model applies as a general framework of grief from loss, but not as a fixed set of grieving processes for elite student-athletes who become medically disqualified. We conclude with implications for NCAA policy, athlete mental health services, and the cultivation of exit cultures that prioritize human well-being over athletic productivity. Full article

Osteoporosis is a multifactorial, polygenic disease characterized by reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and increased fracture risk. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have identified numerous loci associated with BMD and/or bone fractures, but functional characterization of these target genes is essential to understand the biological mechanisms underlying osteoporosis. This review focuses on current methodologies and key examples of successful functional studies aimed at evaluating gene function in osteoporosis research. Functional evaluation typically follows a multi-step approach. In silico analyses using omics datasets expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs), protein quantitative trait loci (pQTLs), and DNA methylation quantitative trait loci (mQTLs) help prioritize candidate genes and predict relevant biological pathways. In vitro models, including immortalized bone-derived cell lines and primary mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), are used to explore gene function in osteogenesis. Advanced three-dimensional culture systems provide additional physiological relevance for studying bone-related cellular processes. In situ analyses of patient-derived bone and muscle tissues offer validation in a disease-relevant context, while in vivo studies using mouse and zebrafish models enable comprehensive assessment of gene function in skeletal development and maintenance. Integration of these complementary methodologies helps translate GWAS findings into biological insights and supports the identification of novel therapeutic targets for osteoporosis. Full article
