Objective: This study investigates the relationship between social media use and consumer purchase intentions or out-of-home food choices in the Polish gastronomic market, focusing specifically on variations across generations. Methodology: Data were collected between May and July 2024 through a diagnostic survey using the Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI) technique (N = 1099). Respondents were recruited via a non-probability quota sampling approach based on strict demographic inclusion criteria. To test the research hypotheses regarding generational variations in market behaviour, a multivariate discriminant function analysis was performed using Statistica 13.1 PL. A preliminary pilot study (N = 30) confirmed the initial questionnaire readability and overall consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.87), while subscales were treated independently during the main analysis. Results: Multivariate models were found to be highly significant, revealing clear differences between age groups. The youngest cohort (aged 18–35) relies heavily on Instagram and TikTok, showing distinct patterns regarding visual triggers such as “instagrammable” aesthetics, digital validation, and menu uniqueness alongside weight loss claims. Conversely, seniors (aged 61 and older) lean unexpectedly towards X. This older segment displays pragmatic, utility-driven motives, searching for detailed textual data about ingredients and the health-promoting properties of food. General product quality and calorie control were identified as universal factors that do not vary by generation. Conclusions and Managerial Implications: The digital transformation of the Polish restaurant industry does not follow a single path. Social media is closely linked to modern customer journeys, with physical dining spots frequently serving as spaces for socialisation. Consequently, restaurant operators should move away from mass communication and adopt a selective omnichannel strategy, where message formats shift from visual appeal to factual, nutrition-oriented text that is tailored to the digital literacy and dietary needs of each generation. Small-scale prosumer installations are playing an increasingly important role in the Polish electricity sector. These primarily include photovoltaic systems and heat pumps installed for internal use. Noticeable losses for individual investors, generated by the power flow mechanism during peak production hours (connection to the grid) and peak demand (drawback from the grid), as well as the issue of fluctuating grid capacity and the observed redispatch procedures for photovoltaic installations, are driving increased interest in equipping home energy installations with energy storage systems, strengthening the aspect of sustainable energy development in this dimension. The impact of energy storage on investment motivation and the actual effects of incorporating it into home energy installations have not yet been sufficiently researched, particularly in Poland. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the use of energy storage in home installations as a socio-technical direction of power development at the micro level, in light of the constantly increasing energy demand observed worldwide in line with the challenges of sustainable development. The results of a survey of 206 individual users of power installations equipped with energy storage systems in Poland were used for this study. The research was qualitative and quantitative in nature, with descriptive statistics and a logistic regression model used in the in-depth section, and the findings were supported by PQStat software. The research revealed that the selection of energy storage systems in home power grids is related to the potential for prosumer optimization. On the other hand, they are seen as a path towards increasing energy security at the household level. Supporting this direction of installation development at the micro level is a justified concept for the development of green energy in Poland, socially and environmentally beneficial as well as economically justified, i.e., in line with the trend of sustainable development. The information campaign, combined with financial support for this type of investment, should be continued and strengthened in Poland. Full article

Robotic polishing in CAD-free industrial settings relies on point-cloud data, yet noise and non-uniform sampling often compromise kinematic feasibility and finishing quality. This paper proposes an adaptive motion planning approach with explicit kinematic constraints. A downsampling–clustering–mapping-back strategy is first employed for rapid workpiece extraction. Subsequently, an improved supervoxel representation and attributed adjacency graph (AAG) are developed, utilizing a multi-objective energy formulation to partition sub-regions that satisfy geometric consistency and kinematic reachability. To handle point-cloud noise, a lightweight neural network predicts scanning directions and step-distance coefficients, followed by thick-slice serpentine path generation. Finally, closed-loop verification ensures safety through inverse-kinematics and safety-margin checks. Experimental results demonstrate consistent sub-micron finishing quality, with Ra ≈ 0.6 μm on complex mold surfaces. Moreover, the proposed pipeline achieves a 7.5× preprocessing speedup, completing workpiece extraction in 1.14 s for a 237,640-point scan, and improves kinematic feasibility to 100% IK success while reducing the mean TCP normal deviation by ~76% compared with a PCA-based baseline. This research examines how atmospheric plasma spraying torch power and coating thickness jointly affect the adhesion strength, microstructure, porosity, and flexural behavior of Al2O3 coatings on 100Cr6 steel substrates. Optical microscopy, SEM and EDS mapping, 3D surface-roughness analysis, Vickers hardness testing (HV2) on polished cross-sections, and three-point bending of extracted beams were employed to develop a processing–structure–property map. This multi-technique approach enables the cross-validation of processing–structure–property relationships and supports a robust identification of the optimal power–thickness condition by jointly considering porosity (densification), adhesion strength, flexural response and failure mode. All conditions resulted in an average surface roughness Ra of approximately 1.0 µm. Increasing torch power to 45 kW generally reduced cross-sectional porosity, except at 500 µm, where globular pores appeared. Hardness (HV2) increased with power and peaked at the intermediate thickness (500 µm); adhesion up to 63 MPa was recorded for the 300 µm/45 kW coating. Flexural strength was highest at 500 µm and was consistently greater at 45 kW than at 39 kW. Fractography showed a shift in failure mode from interface-driven delamination at 39 kW to more cohesive, tortuous intra-coating cracks at 45 kW, aligned with improved splat bonding and crack-path deflection. An intermediate thickness of 500 µm deposited at 45 kW is thus identified as an optimal condition to balance densification and crack-path tortuosity, leading to enhanced hardness and flexural performance. Contemporary religiosity is undergoing profound transformation, shaped by postsecular and postmodern dynamics. Amid global declines in institutional affiliation, religious and spiritual tourism has emerged as a salient expression of evolving faith. Poland exemplifies this paradox: witnessing one of the world’s steepest declines in youth religiosity, even as Catholicism retains symbolic centrality. Drawing on survey data from 510 Polish young adults (Generation Z), this study examines how religiosity, faith-based travel, and social attitudes intersect within a postsecular framework. Findings reveal a dual trajectory: while religious tourism reinforces institutional belonging and traditional values, spiritual tourism aligns with individualized, fluid religiosity and looser ties to religious institutions. The study introduces a novel conceptual model mapping the interdependencies between religiosity, mobility, and identity among youth in postsecular societies. This framework demonstrates how faith-based travel actively mediates social attitudes and reconfigures religious engagement, positioning mobility as a generative force in shaping contemporary belief. Rather than following a linear path of secularization, Generation Z selectively blends inherited Catholic traditions with personalized, experience-driven spirituality. These findings advance sociological debates on secularization, postsecularism, and the transformation of religious identity through mobility. Full article

Robotic polishing is crucial for achieving superior surface finishes in manufacturing. However, precise force control presents significant challenges, particularly for curved workpieces exhibiting time-varying stiffness. Traditional methods typically struggle to adapt to these dynamic conditions, often leading to inconsistent results and suboptimal surface quality. This study proposes an Adaptive Impedance Control based on Visual Guidance (AICVG) strategy for robotic polishing. This approach integrates real-time visual feedback for geometric perception and adaptive tool path generation with a fuzzy logic system that dynamically adjusts impedance parameters to account for unforeseen surface stiffness variations. Simulations and experimental validations conducted on a robotic platform demonstrate that the AICVG strategy significantly outperforms both traditional impedance control and conventional fuzzy logic-based adaptive impedance control. Specifically, it maintains force control errors within ±1.5 N under dynamic stiffness conditions and achieves a 60% reduction in workpiece surface roughness compared to the aforementioned alternative methods. This study presents a robust and precise control framework that significantly enhances the adaptability and efficacy of robotic polishing for complex geometries, thereby advancing automated solutions in high-precision manufacturing. Pavement texture and skid resistance are pivotal surface features of roadway to traffic safety, especially under wet weather. Engineering interventions should be scheduled periodically to restore these features as they deteriorate over time under traffic polishing. While many studies have investigated the effects of traffic polishing on pavement texture and skid resistance through laboratory experiments, the absence of real-world traffic and environmental factors in these studies may limit the generalization of their findings. This study addresses this research gap by conducting a comprehensive field study of pavement texture and skid resistance under traffic polishing in the real world. A total of thirty pairs of pavement texture and friction data were systematically collected from three distinct locations with different levels of traffic polishing (middle, right wheel path, and edge) along an asphalt pavement in Oklahoma, USA. Data acquisition utilized a laser imaging device to reconstruct 0.01 mm 3D images to characterize pavement texture and a Dynamic Friction Tester to evaluate pavement friction at different speeds. Twenty 3D areal parameters were calculated on whole images, macrotexture images, and microtexture images to investigate the effects of traffic polishing on pavement texture from different perspectives. Then, texture parameters and testing speeds were combined to develop friction prediction models via linear and nonlinear methodologies. The results indicate that Random Forest models with identified inputs achieved excellent performance for non-contact friction evaluation. Last, the friction decrease rate was discussed to estimate the timing of future maintenance to restore skid resistance. This study provides more insights into how engineers should plan maintenance to restore pavement texture and friction considering real-world traffic polishing. Full article

Elastic spherical polishing tools effectively conform to the polishing surface and exhibit high efficiency in the removal of materials, so they are extensively used in the sub-aperture polishing stages of optical components. However, their processing is often accompanied by significant mid-spatial frequency (MSF) errors, which critically degrade the performance of optical systems. To suppress the MSF errors generated during polishing with spherical tools, this study investigates the influence factor of MSF errors during the polishing process through an analysis of the convolution effect in material removal. A material removal profile model is established, and a uniform removal simulation is conducted to assess the influence of different shape material removal profiles on MSF errors. Simulation and experimental results show that a Gaussian-like shape material removal profile is more effective in suppressing the MSF errors during polishing compared to the “W” and trapezoidal shape material removal profiles. In addition, based on the characteristics of the RMS decreasing in a serrated trend with the decrease in path spacing, a path spacing optimization method considering the polishing efficiency is proposed to improve the polishing efficiency while controlling the MSF errors, and the effectiveness of the path spacing optimization method is verified by comparing the MSF error at the maximum theoretical path spacing and the path spacing that is less than this. Finally, the path spacing optimization method is used to polish single-crystal silicon to further illustrate its practicality. Full article

When addressing the technical challenges of achieving precise force tracking during the local polishing process of polishing robots, controlling the contact state between the robot and the workpiece surface is essential. To this end, a contact motion-planning strategy based on dynamic systems is designed to generate trajectory routes during local polishing. The trajectory simulation of the local modulation dynamic system is achieved through the employment of the support vector regression (SVR) algorithm with a Gaussian kernel, facilitating the learning process. The feasibility and stability of planning local paths are validated using the local modulation dynamic system. To maintain a constant contact force between the end-effector polishing robot and the workpiece, an integral adaptive impedance control strategy is utilized, enabling the robot’s compliant control. Subsequently, an experimental system for the polishing robot is constructed in order to verify the effectiveness of the motion-planning system. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed motion-planning approach is applicable in practical polishing processes, ensuring smooth contact and maintaining the desired contact force when scanning nonlinear surfaces, and thus showcasing stability and practicality. The European Union targets aim to replace the non-renewable energy sources (non-RES) of coal, oil and gas (COG) generation with RES and storage (RES-S). The replacement of COG-generating units will lead to a decrease in CO2 emissions and a better living environment. Starting from this desideratum, in this paper, we create several scenarios to replace COG in Romania with RES-S, reconsider future energy mixes and engage with a more creative planning in order to meet the clean energy transition path. The energy shortages, especially in European countries after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, led many governments (including the Romanian, Polish, etc.) to think more about short-term supply issues and less about medium- and long-term power system planning. However, the decision makers of the European power systems have to decide how fast to avoid firing coal, how fast to adopt RES and how fast to invest in flexibility sources, including storage stations to enable a higher integration of RES. Therefore, in this paper, a holistic view to envision the RES and non-RES contribution to the load coverage in Romania for a smooth transition to a low-carbon economy is provided. The results show that an initial mix of wind, photovoltaic (PV) and storage systems is preferable to substitute 600 MW of installed power in coal-based power plants. Furthermore, the case of Poland—the European country with over 70% coal in its generation portfolio—is also presented as it can serve as a good example. Full article

This paper presents a robotic polishing process for complex violin surfaces to increase efficiency and minimize the cost and consumed time caused by using labor and traditional polishing machines. The polishing process is implemented based on modeling a smooth path, controlled contact force embedded with gravity compensation and material removal depth. A cubic Non-Uniform Rational Bases-Spline (NURBS) interpolation curve combined with an S-curve trajectory model is used to generate a smooth polishing path on a complex violin surface to achieve stable motion during the polishing process. An online admittance controller added to the fast gravity compensation algorithm maintains an accurate polishing force for equal removal depth on all polished surface areas. Then, based on Pythagorean theory, the removal depth model is calculated for the violin’s complex surface before and after polishing to estimate the accuracy of the polishing process. Experimental studies were conducted by polishing a wooden surface using the 6DOF robot manipulator to validate this methodology. The experimental results demonstrated that the robot had accurate polishing force based on the online admittance controller with gravity compensation. It also showed a precise proportional uniformity of removal depths at the different normal forces of 10, 15, and 20 N. The final results indicated that the proposed experimental polishing approach is accurate and polishes complex surfaces effectively. Full article

The grinding method is used as the preliminary processing procedure for small aperture aspheric mirrors. Regular grinding marks produced in the grinding process significantly affect the mid-spatial frequency error; however, because of their small radius of surface curvatures and high steepness, they are difficult to polish using traditional methods. Therefore, in this study, the ultra-precision grinding and polishing process of fused quartz material was investigated, and the influence of grinding marks was analyzed, which achieved the purpose of restraining the grinding marks in the grinding process. The generation mechanisms of horizontal and vertical grinding marks were analyzed by means of simulation and experiment, and the relationship between different grinding process parameters and surface quality was explored. A magnetorheological finishing (MRF) spot method was used to explore the effects of grinding marks on subsurface damage (SSD). The elastic adaptive polishing method was used to polish an aspheric lens with high steepness and small caliber. Based on the principle of an elastic adaptive polishing mathematical model, the grinding marks were suppressed, and the mid-spatial frequency error of the lens was reduced by optimizing the polishing path and composition of the polishing fluid. The final roughness reached 10 nm Ra. In this paper, the source of wear marks and their influence on the mid-spatial frequency error of small aperture aspheric mirrors are analyzed, and the grinding marks were suppressed by elastic adaptive polishing. A partial pre-rusted wire beam electrode (WBE) was designed to study the influence of the rust layer on rebar corrosion in the carbonated simulated concrete pore solution (SCPS). The results show that the passive film generated on the pre-rusted steel area is more fragile than that formed on the fine polished steel area in carbonaceous media. Nevertheless, the pitting corrosion resulting from the presence of chloride ions still tends to occur on the fine polished steel surface due to the local acidification process being hindered by the rust layer. The rust layer could play a more important role than the passive film in inhibiting the initiation of chloride-induced corrosion on rebar. The expansion path of the corrosion product would be blocked by the rust layer, leading to the pit propagating in the fine polished region. Furthermore, the growth of pitting corrosion is greatly accelerated due to the catalytic cathodic reaction of the rust layer. Full article

Sustainable City solutions can become an essential element of the development of contemporary urban communities. This development path can also provide opportunities for organisations operating in cities and metropolises. An inherent feature of the organisation which a city constitutes is that it enables the people who make it up to cooperate. Climate packages, including the Green Deal and Fit for 55, are implemented in Europe, while in Poland decarbonisation processes are underway. The main challenges in this area include, on the one hand, a search for savings of energy consumed, and, on the other hand, a reduction in pollution resulting from the use of transport or heat or energy sources. Cities and metropolises will become green only when they manage to cope with these problems. The article aims at showing various facets of sustainable smart city management. With relations, information and knowledge gaining importance as the key organisational resource, cities have become, as organisations, an essential element of contemporary societies and organisations. In recent times, the harmful emissions from heating installations have drawn the attention of the public opinion in Poland. Polish municipalities distribute heat which mostly comes from local, most often district heating systems where energy is generated on a wide scale from coal combustion. This study compares the results of an air quality survey and those of a case study to assess the potential for the implementation of an automated heat control system in cities. On the basis of solutions implemented in the Warsaw Metropolis, the possibility of their implementation in the Upper Silesian (GZM) and Poznań Metropolises, too, was also assessed. Throughout Poland, there is a large potential for the application of innovative smart technologies in district heating systems to reduce the levels of harmful emissions. These reductions, which are still possible, could translate into a significant improvement in the attractiveness and competitiveness of municipalities. Finally, practical recommendations are being provided. Full article

A robot trajectory teaching system with a vision-based positioning pen, which we called Solpen, is developed to generate pose paths of six degrees of freedom (6-DoF) for vision-guided robotics applications such as welding, cutting, painting, or polishing, which can achieve a millimeter dynamic accuracy within a meter working distance from the camera. The system is simple and requires only a 2D camera and the printed ArUco markers which are hand-glued on 31 surfaces of the designed 3D-printed Solpen. Image processing techniques are implemented to remove noise and sharpen the edge of the ArUco images and also enhance the contrast of the ArUco edge intensity generated by the pyramid reconstruction. In addition, the least squares method is implemented to optimize parameters for the center pose of the truncated Icosahedron center, and the vector of the Solpen-tip. From dynamic experiments conducted with ChArUco board to verify exclusively the pen performance, the developed system is robust within its working range, and achieves a minimum axis-accuracy at approximately 0.8 mm.
