Predicting Employee Turnover Based on Improved ADASYN and GS-CatBoost

In corporate management practices, human resources are among the most active and critical elements, and frequent employee turnover can impose substantial losses on firms. Accurately predicting employee turnover dynamics and identifying turnover propensity in advance is therefore of significant importance for organizational development. To improve turnover prediction performance, this study proposes an employee turnover prediction model that integrates an improved ADASYN data rebalancing algorithm with a grid-search-optimized CatBoost classifier. In practice, turnover instances typically constitute a minority class; severe class imbalance may lead to overfitting or underfitting and thus degrade predictive performance. To mitigate imbalance, we employ ADASYN oversampling to reduce skewness in the dataset. However, because ADASYN is primarily designed for continuous features, it may generate invalid or meaningless values when discrete variables are present. Accordingly, we improve ADASYN by introducing a new distance metric and an enhanced sample generation strategy, making it applicable to turnover data with mixed (continuous and discrete) features. Given CatBoost’s strong predictive capability in high-dimensional settings, we adopt CatBoost as the base learner. Nonetheless, CatBoost performance is highly sensitive to hyperparameter choices, and different parameter combinations can yield markedly different results. Therefore, we apply grid search (GS) to efficiently optimize CatBoost hyperparameters and obtain the best-performing configuration. Experimental results on three datasets demonstrate that the proposed improved-ADASYN GS-CatBoost model effectively enhances turnover prediction performance, exhibiting strong robustness and adaptability. Compared with existing models, our approach improves predictive accuracy by approximately 4.6112%. Full article

Background: Workplace violence (WPV) is a pervasive occupational hazard in healthcare that undermines staff safety and quality of care. In Bulgaria, WPV remains widespread and underreported, despite recent legislative initiatives. This study assessed healthcare professionals’ perceptions of the effectiveness of WPV prevention strategies and examined how prior exposure shapes these perceptions. Methods: A nationwide cross-sectional online survey was conducted in December 2024 with 944 healthcare professionals from multiple sectors. Participants rated the perceived effectiveness of 11 prevention strategies, including environmental/security measures, organizational, and national-level interventions, on a three-point scale. Friedman ANOVA with Kendall’s W assessed overall strategy rankings, while Mann–Whitney U tests with rank-biserial correlations compared specific effectiveness ratings between subgroups defined by WPV exposure (experienced or witnessed vs. not exposed in the previous 12 months). Results: In the previous 12 months, 34.7% of respondents reported direct WPV, and 43.4% had either experienced or witnessed incidents. Friedman ANOVA indicated significant differences in perceived effectiveness across strategies (Kendall’s W = 0.13), with stronger differentiation among violence-exposed respondents (W = 0.37) than among non-exposed respondents (W = 0.09). National-level interventions and security/response measures were consistently ranked the highest. Mann–Whitney tests showed significantly higher endorsement of most strategies among violence-exposed professionals, with large effect sizes for security measures and enforcement of sanctions. Conclusions: Bulgarian healthcare professionals view WPV prevention as requiring a multicomponent approach that integrates robust national policy with organizational and environmental measures. Direct exposure to violence is associated with stronger support for security-focused and national interventions. These findings inform context-specific, evidence-based WPV prevention programs for Bulgarian healthcare facilities. Full article

The transition to renewable energy technologies is one of the most important ways to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of affordable and clean energy (SDG7); industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG9); responsible production and consumption (SDG12); and climate action (SDG13). The widespread use of renewable energy technologies in developing countries will reduce dependence on imported fossil resources, increase industrial competitiveness, and support low-carbon development. Despite all their advantages, the integration of renewable energy technologies into industrial and domestic systems in developing countries remains slow due to a number of barriers. Financial constraints, technical and technological deficiencies, political restrictions and uncertainties, and organizational and managerial inadequacies are some of the barriers to the widespread adoption of renewable energy technologies. This study aims to identify, classify, and prioritize the barriers to the implementation of renewable energy technologies by applying multi-criteria decision-making methods in a fuzzy environment, with Türkiye considered as a case study. The relative importance of the barriers identified using the Single-Valued Spherical Fuzzy SWARA method was assessed, and their interconnections and significance were systematically demonstrated. The findings will contribute to the development of policy and management strategies aligned with global sustainability goals, thereby facilitating a more effective and equitable transition to clean and resilient energy systems. As sustainability becomes a strategic priority, the Information Technology (IT) sector faces pressure on both reducing its environmental impact and leading in innovation. This study examines how Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices influence employees’ Green IT Attitudes (GITA) and beliefs within the IT industry. Guided by the Belief–Action–Outcome (BAO) framework, it explores how HR strategies can foster eco-conscious mindsets that support sustainable behaviour. A quantitative cross-sectional design was used, collecting data through a validated questionnaire. The study was conducted in Australia, focusing on IT professionals employed. Responses from 112 IT professionals, determined through G*Power sample estimation, were analysed using SPSS 28.0.1 with regression techniques to assess the relationship between GHRM practices and environmental attitudes and beliefs. Results indicate that GHRM practices have a modest but significant positive effect on employees’ green IT attitudes and beliefs, supporting the view that structured HR initiatives can shape sustainability-driven mindsets. The findings emphasize the strategic role of HR in embedding sustainability within organizational culture, particularly in technology-driven environments. The study offers practical guidance for IT organizations aiming to integrate sustainability into internal systems by leveraging HRM. Future research should examine moderating variables and long-term behavioural effects, enhancing our understanding of sustainability-focused HRM in the digital era. Full article

Background/Objectives: Healthcare workers at the frontline of managing pandemics are at increased risk for adverse physical and mental health outcomes, which has been shown to result in burnout. The relationship between personal resilience and burnout among clinical and non-clinical healthcare staff working in an acute care setting was assessed at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional survey design with electronic questionnaires was used to measure resilience (Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale,) and burnout (Maslach Burnout Inventory—Human Services Survey). Linear regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationship between resilience and emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. Results: A significant inverse relationship between resilience and both emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and a positive relationship between resilience and personal accomplishment were identified. Higher resilience scores were significantly associated with lower emotional exhaustion and depersonalization and higher personal accomplishment under pandemic conditions. Conclusions: Strategies to boost resilience organization-wide amongst healthcare staff providing patient care are critical for providing skills to reduce the onset of burnout and support employee mental health. From a pandemic preparedness lens, organizational-level emergency management should consider the importance of resilience-building among staff to proactively prevent burnout and its subsequent effects on patient-care and general hospital functioning. In an increasingly digitalized work environment, the expectation of perpetual work availability—constant connectivity (CC)—has become central to employees’ daily experiences, influencing productivity, well-being, and work–life balance. This study validates the Constant Connectivity Scale in the Italian organizational context, assessing its psychometric properties through exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses with 300 employees from three organizations. Reliability and validity assessments revealed the scale’s unidimensional structure, strong internal consistency, and high construct validity, demonstrating its effectiveness in measuring perceived hyperconnectivity at work. Findings reveal important relationships between constant connectivity and employee outcomes: significant associations with increased anxiety and a paradoxical moderate positive correlation with job performance, suggesting complex mechanisms whereby connectivity simultaneously activates engagement and strain processes. The weak correlation with smart working perception indicates that organizational flexibility policies have not substantially reduced connectivity expectations in Italian organizations. This study contributes to the digital work literature by providing a validated, culturally adapted instrument for as sessing constant connectivity in the Italian workforce. The validated CCS offers organizations evidence-based measurement for understanding hyperconnectivity intensity and implementing targeted strategies for building workforce resilience and promoting mental health through better management of digital connectivity demands. This study aims to assess the perceived quality of telecommunication services in Portugal and examine how governance practices influence organizational performance, addressing the lack of empirical evidence on service quality gaps in the Portuguese telecommunications sector. Specifically, it investigates the alignment between customers’ expectations and perceptions of service delivery among major telecommunications providers in northern Portugal. A convenience sample of 119 subscribers was collected through an online questionnaire disseminated via social media and email. The survey measured service quality across the five SERVQUAL dimensions (tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy), and sociodemographic variables (gender, age, and education) were recorded to explore their influence on customer satisfaction and perceived quality. Results reveal a consistent gap between expectations (6.51) and perceptions (5.54), particularly in reliability and responsiveness, despite generally positive evaluations of tangibility and assurance. Sociodemographic factors significantly influenced satisfaction levels and perceptions of service quality, highlighting the importance of tailored governance strategies. These findings demonstrate that effective governance and quality management are interdependent drivers of sustainable competitiveness in technology-intensive sectors. By identifying specific quality gaps and their drivers, this study provides actionable insights for improving service delivery. Enhancing organizational reliability, responsiveness, and empathy—supported by transparent communication and data-driven decision-making—is essential for improving customer trust, operational resilience, and long-term performance. By integrating continuous quality assessment into administrative strategy, telecommunications firms can enhance service excellence and contribute to broader goals of sustainable economic development and digital transformation. This paper develops a procedure for assessing both supply chain processes and strategic criteria in the context of platform-based supply chains, addressing the problem that organizations often invest in digital platforms without a clear understanding of how process effectiveness, process dysfunction, and strategic platform priorities jointly influence implementation success. The main research objective is to evaluate how effective and dysfunctional supply chain processes, together with prioritized strategic platform criteria, shape performance, productivity, and resilience outcomes in platform-based supply chain integration. The paper further discusses how identified dysfunctional processes and prioritized strategic criteria relate to operational vulnerabilities and resilience-building measures. The research adopts a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach to address the challenges of digital transformation and platform integration. An exploratory study was conducted applying the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) to evaluate functional and dysfunctional processes, complemented by the best worst method (BWM) to prioritize critical strategic criteria. The combined assessment highlights effective and dysfunctional processes while also identifying the most influential factors driving platform-based adoption and their potential implications for operational vulnerability and resilience. The results demonstrate how platform integration contributes to performance improvement, process alignment, and productivity gains across supply chain operations. The study contributes to both theory and practice by integrating MCDM techniques to support structured decision-making, enhancing responsiveness, resilience, and alignment with platform-oriented strategies. The primary contribution lies in providing a dual-level framework that enables supply chain managers to diagnose weaknesses, leverage strengths, and strategically guide the transition toward platform-based supply chain operations, with a measurable impact on organizational performance and productivity development. Assisted Reproductive Technology Units (ARTUs) constitute a rapidly growing sector in healthcare, where service quality and patient safety are closely intertwined with ethical principles, technological precision, and managerial efficiency. This study aims to explore quality management practices and certification standards—such as ISO 9001, ISO 15189, and ISO 13485—within ARTUs, with the goal of developing a model that enhances patient-centered outcomes. The analysis focuses on the roles of leadership, staff training, and internal auditing mechanisms as key factors for the successful implementation of quality management systems (QMSs). Through a structured literature review and thematic synthesis, this study identifies challenges that ARTUs face in aligning with international standards and highlights strategies that strengthen patient trust, transparency, and continuous improvement. The proposed model connects measurable quality indicators with patient perceptions and experiences, providing a comprehensive framework for sustainable quality development. This article contributes to the academic discourse on healthcare quality governance and offers practical insights for policymakers and administrators seeking to improve patient experience and organizational resilience in reproductive medicine. This study introduces the Sustainable Urban Mobility Maturity Model (SUM-MM) to assess and enhance the maturity of sustainable urban mobility in cities. The SUM-MM comprises 3 main dimensions (enablers, sustainability, and transport modes) and 11 sub-dimensions (strategic and spatial planning, organization and human resources, information and communication technologies, environment, economy, social, walking, micromobility, public transport, paratransit systems, and multimodal integration), evaluated at 5 levels (beginner, initial, integrated, managed, and mature). Developed through a literature review and validated using a questionnaire-based expert opinion method, the model was tested in Konya, Türkiye. The results show that Konya’s overall maturity falls between integrated and managed, with significant variability across sub-dimensions. The enablers dimension demonstrated the highest maturity, driven by strong organizational and technological capabilities, whereas the transport modes dimension had the lowest—particularly in paratransit systems. The SUM-MM serves as both a benchmarking tool and a policy guidance framework, facilitating targeted strategies for sustainable urban mobility improvements. Unlike existing smart city or transport maturity models, the SUM-MM specifically focuses on sustainable urban mobility, offering a structured, operational, and decision-oriented framework for policy-makers and city administrations. The results can be used by local and national authorities to support comparative benchmarking, strategic planning, and the prioritization of sustainable urban mobility investments. Full article

Background/Objectives: Mobile health (mHealth) interventions can enhance chronic disease management, but their integration into public healthcare systems remains complex. DiabeText is the first SMS-based intervention in Spain delivering personalized diabetes self-management support using electronic health record data. This study explored perceived barriers and facilitators to the implementation of DiabeText in the Spanish public health context from the perspective of key stakeholders. Methods: A qualitative study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with 14 purposively selected stakeholders involved in digital health, diabetes care, data protection, and healthcare management across several Spanish regions. Interviews were thematically analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s approach and guided by the Implementation Research Logic Model. Results: Participants reported several barriers, including concerns regarding data protection, uncertainty about long-term sustainability, insufficient training and engagement of healthcare professionals and low digital literacy among certain patient groups. Facilitators included favorable institutional momentum for digital innovation, funding availability, perceived clinical utility and scalability of DiabeText, and growing patient familiarity with digital tools. Recommended strategies included integration into existing healthcare systems and workflows, professional training and use of familiar communication platforms. Conclusions: Effective implementation of DiabeText requires addressing regulatory, organizational, and equity-related barriers while leveraging institutional support and readiness for innovation. Early involvement of healthcare professionals, robust data governance, and investment in digital literacy are essential to ensure sustainable and equitable adoption. These findings provide actionable insights to support the integration of mHealth tools into chronic disease care in Spain and similar settings. Full article

Russia’s 2022 invasion precipitated one of Europe’s largest episodes of forced academic mobility, compelling universities to shift from emergency access to durable inclusion. This article investigates how Ukrainian students are integrated into Romanian higher education through a qualitative case study at Ovidius University of Constanta, undertaken within the Erasmus+ EIUS project. We analysed a participatory focus-group workshop (“Building Bridges,” May 2024) involving 72 participants (15 Ukrainian students, 31 Romanian students, 26 academic staff). Transcripts were coded via reflexive thematic analysis and interpreted through a SWOT lens to connect lived experience with institutional strategy. Findings indicate that integration generates tangible pedagogical and social value—diversity enriches coursework, empathy strengthens peer collaboration, and exposure to multilingual classrooms catalyses instructional innovation. Yet systemic fragilities persist: language anxiety (“translation silence”), fragmented support pathways, and limited access to counselling shift emotional labour onto faculty and peers. Opportunities cluster around Erasmus+ infrastructures, bilingual materials, and co-created projects that transform access into participation; threats include latent prejudice, social isolation, compassion fatigue, and policy discontinuity as crisis attention wanes. We advance the concept of institutionalised solidarity—a multi-level inclusion model that couples emotional infrastructures (mentoring, trauma-informed pedagogy, counselling) with organizational infrastructures (integration offices, linguistic scaffolding, adaptive assessment). Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly regarded as a transformative enabler of sustainable logistics and supply chain management, particularly in the context of global energy transition and decarbonization efforts. This study provides a comprehensive conceptual and exploratory assessment of the multidimensional role of AI, highlighting both its potential to enhance energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as its inherent environmental costs associated with digital infrastructures such as data centers. The findings reveal the dual character of digitalization: while predictive algorithms and digital twin applications facilitate demand forecasting, process optimization, and real-time adaptation to market fluctuations, they simultaneously generate additional energy demand that must be offset through renewable energy integration and intelligent energy balancing. The analysis underscores that the effectiveness of AI deployment cannot be captured solely through economic metrics but requires a holistic evaluation framework that incorporates environmental and social dimensions. Moreover, regional disparities are identified, with advanced economies accelerating AI-driven green transformations under regulatory and societal pressures, while developing economies face constraints linked to infrastructure gaps and investment limitations. The analysis emphasizes that AI-driven predictive models and digital twin applications are not only tools for energy optimization but also mechanisms that enhance systemic resilience by enabling risk anticipation, adaptive resource allocation, and continuity of operations in volatile environment. The contribution of this study lies in situating AI within the digital–green synergy discourse, demonstrating that its role in logistics decarbonization is conditional upon integrated energy–climate strategies, organizational change, and workforce reskilling. By synthesizing emerging evidence, this article provides actionable insights for policymakers, managers, and scholars, and calls for more rigorous empirical research across sectors, regions, and time horizons to verify the long-term sustainability impacts of AI-enabled solutions in supply chains. This study examines the role of green information technology capital (GITC) and knowledge source on firms’ green competitive advantage (GCA), with the mediating role of ambidextrous green innovation strategy (AGIS), and the moderating role of technological orientation (TO). Research employed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to analyze data gathered from 367 respondents from Chinese manufacturing firms. The results revealed a significant direct effect of GITC and knowledge sources on GCA, whereas AGIS partially mediated the relationships. Moreover, TO significantly moderates the impact of GITC on AGIS, whereas it does not moderate the relationship between knowledge sources and AGIS. fsQCA results revealed that a varied combination of GITC, knowledge sources, and AGIS dimensions, along with TO, can lead to high GCA. This study advances the literature by offering insightful perspectives on enhancing GCA by leveraging organizational resources to stimulate AGIS. Full article

Information security is currently a key pillar of information protection in organizations and a fundamental element of functioning organizational strategy. The aim of this article is to analyze how the integration of an information security management system (ISMS) into the strategic management of an organization can influence its security culture and ability to implement new technologies. The study uses a conceptual approach based on the PDCA model and a comparative analysis of the available literature on ISMS, organizational culture, and digital transformation. The results of the study show that an effectively implemented ISMS can strengthen an organization’s resilience, increase the confidence of its stakeholders, and promote openness to adopting innovative solutions. It also points out that a developed security culture is a prerequisite for the proper and successful functioning of ISMS, especially in an environment of rapid technological change. The study offers recommendations for managers focused on integrating ISMS into strategic planning, strengthening security awareness, and continuously evaluating the maturity of security processes.
