A new odd exponential-type (NOT-Exp) distribution provides a flexible and analytically tractable framework for modeling lifetime data exhibiting non-constant hazard behaviors, including increasing, decreasing, bathtub-shaped, and unimodal forms, which are commonly observed in real-world reliability and survival studies. In this work, a comprehensive inferential methodology is developed for the NOT-Exp model under a unified progressive Type-II hybrid censoring, allowing several traditional censoring designs to be treated as special cases within a single unified structure. The main advantages of the proposed model lie in its ability to capture complex risk dynamics while maintaining mathematical simplicity, making it particularly suitable for censored lifetime data. Classical inference is conducted via maximum likelihood estimation, along with two asymptotic confidence interval constructions based on normal and log-normal approximations for both model parameters and reliability characteristics. In addition, a Bayesian estimation framework is introduced using independent gamma priors and Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques to obtain posterior estimates, credible intervals, and highest posterior density regions. Extensive simulations demonstrate the accuracy, stability, and robustness of the proposed estimators under varying sample sizes, censoring intensities, and prior specifications. Applications to airborne toxicological variation data and bank customer waiting times highlight the practical importance of the methodology, where the NOT-Exp model consistently outperforms twelve competing lifetime distributions according to standard goodness-of-fit criteria. These results confirm that the suggested design gives a strong and versatile tool for analyzing complex censored lifetime data across environmental and service-system applications. Full article

This study explores advanced methods for analyzing the two-parameter alpha-power exponential (APE) distribution using data from a novel generalized progressive hybrid censoring scheme. The APE model is inherently asymmetric, exhibiting positive skewness across all valid parameter values due to its right-skewed exponential base, with the alpha-power transformation amplifying or dampening this skewness depending on the power parameter. The proposed censoring design offers new insights into modeling lifetime data that exhibit non-monotonic hazard behaviors. It enhances testing efficiency by simultaneously imposing fixed-time constraints and ensuring a minimum number of failures, thereby improving inference quality over traditional censoring methods. We derive maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimates for the APE distribution parameters and key reliability measures, such as the reliability and hazard rate functions. Bayesian analysis is performed using independent gamma priors under a symmetric squared error loss, implemented via the Metropolis–Hastings algorithm. Interval estimation is addressed using two normality-based asymptotic confidence intervals and two credible intervals obtained through a simulated Markov Chain Monte Carlo procedure. Monte Carlo simulations across various censoring scenarios demonstrate the stable and superior precision of the proposed methods. Optimal censoring patterns are identified based on the observed Fisher information and its inverse. Two real-world case studies—breast cancer remission times and global oil reserve data—illustrate the practical utility of the APE model within the proposed censoring framework. These applications underscore the model’s capability to effectively analyze diverse reliability phenomena, bridging theoretical innovation with empirical relevance in lifetime data analysis. A novel unified progressive hybrid censoring is introduced to combine both progressive and hybrid censoring plans to allow flexible test termination either after a prespecified number of failures or at a fixed time. This work develops both frequentist and Bayesian inferential procedures for estimating the parameters, reliability, and hazard rates of the inverted Nadarajah–Haghighi lifespan model when a sample is produced from such a censoring plan. Maximum likelihood estimators are obtained through the Newton–Raphson iterative technique. The delta method, based on the Fisher information matrix, is utilized to build the asymptotic confidence intervals for each unknown quantity. In the Bayesian methodology, Markov chain Monte Carlo techniques with independent gamma priors are implemented to generate posterior summaries and credible intervals, addressing computational intractability through the Metropolis—Hastings algorithm. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations compare the efficiency and utility of frequentist and Bayesian estimates across multiple censoring designs, highlighting the superiority of Bayesian inference using informative prior information. Two real-world applications utilizing rare minerals from gold and diamond durability studies are examined to demonstrate the adaptability of the proposed estimators to the analysis of rare events in precious materials science. By applying four different optimality criteria to multiple competing plans, an analysis of various progressive censoring strategies that yield the best performance is conducted. The proposed censoring framework is effectively applied to real-world datasets involving diamonds and gold, demonstrating its practical utility in modeling the reliability and failure behavior of rare and high-value minerals. A new two-parameter statistical model, obtained by compounding the generalized-exponential and exponential distributions, called the PRC lifetime model, is explored in this paper. This model can be easily linked to other well-known six-lifetime models; namely the exponential, log-logistic, Burr, Pareto and generalized Pareto models. Adaptive progressively hybrid Type-II censored strategy, used to increase the efficiency of statistical inferential results and save the total duration of a test, has become widely used in various sectors such as medicine, biology, engineering, etc. Via maximum likelihood and Bayes inferential methodologies, given the presence of such censored data, the challenge of estimating the unknown parameters and some reliability time features, such as reliability and failure rate functions, of the PRC model is examined. The Markov-Chain Monte Carlo sampler, when the model parameters are assumed to have independent gamma density priors, is utilized to produce the Bayes’ infer under the symmetric (squared-error) loss of all unknown subjects. Asymptotic confidence intervals as well as the highest posterior density intervals of the unknown parameters and the unknown reliability indices are also created. An extensive Monte Carlo simulation is implemented to investigate the accuracy of the acquired point and interval estimators. Four various optimality criteria, to select the best progressive censored design, are used. To demonstrate the applicability and feasibility of the proposed model in a real-world scenario, two data sets from the engineering sector; one based on industrial devices and the other on aircraft windshield, are analyzed. Numerical evaluations showed that the PRC model furnishes a superior fit compared to seven other models in the literature, including: alpha-power exponential, log-logistic, Nadarajah–Haghighi, generalized-exponential, Weibull, gamma and exponential lifetime distributions. The findings demonstrate that, in order to obtain the necessary estimators, the Bayes’ paradigm via Metropolis–Hastings sampler is recommended compared to its competitive likelihood approach. A new two-parameter extended exponential lifetime distribution with an increasing failure rate called the Poisson–exponential (PE) model was explored. In the reliability experiments, an adaptive progressively Type-II hybrid censoring strategy is presented to improve the statistical analysis efficiency and reduce the entire test duration on a life-testing experiment. To benefit from this mechanism, this paper sought to infer the unknown parameters, as well as the reliability and failure rate function of the PE distribution using both the likelihood and product of spacings estimation procedures as a conventional view. For each unknown parameter, from both classical approaches, an approximate confidence interval based on Fisher’s information was also created. Additionally, in the Bayesian paradigm, the given classical approaches were extended to Bayes’ continuous theorem to develop the Bayes (or credible interval) estimates of the same unknown quantities. Employing the squared error loss, the Bayesian inference was developed based on independent gamma assumptions. Because of the complex nature of the posterior density, the Markov chain with the Monte Carlo methodology was used to obtain data from the whole conditional distributions and, therefore, evaluate the acquired Bayes point/interval estimates. Via extensive numerical comparisons, the performance of the estimates provided was evaluated with respect to various criteria. Among different competing progressive mechanisms, using four optimality criteria, the best censoring was suggested. Two real chemical engineering datasets were also analyzed to highlight the applicability of the acquired point and interval estimators in an actual practical scenario. Full article

A new weighted Nadarajah–Haghighi (WNH) distribution, as an alternative competitor model to gamma, standard half-logistic, generalized-exponential, Weibull, and other distributions, is considered. This paper explores both maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation approaches for estimating the parameters, reliability, and hazard rate functions of the WNH distribution when the sample type is Type-II progressive censored order statistics. In the classical interval setup, both asymptotic and bootstrap intervals of each unknown parameter are constructed. Using independent gamma priors and symmetric squared-error loss, the Bayes estimators cannot be obtained theoretically. Thus, two approximation techniques, namely: Lindley and Markov-Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods, are used. From MCMC variates, the Bayes credible and highest posterior density intervals of all unknown parameters are also created. Extensive Monte Carlo simulations are implemented to compare the performance of the proposed methodologies. Numerical evaluations showed that the estimates developed by the MCMC sampler performed better than the Lindley estimates, and both behaved significantly better than the frequentist estimates. To choose the optimal censoring scheme, several optimality criteria are considered. Three engineering applications, including vehicle fatalities, electronic devices, and electronic components data sets, are provided. These applications demonstrated how the proposed methodologies could be applied in real practice and showed that the proposed model provides a satisfactory fit compared to three new weighted models, namely: weighted exponential, weighted Gompertz, and new weighted Lindley distributions. This article considers a new improved balanced joint progressive type-II censoring scheme based on two different populations, where the lifetime distributions of two populations follow the generalized inverted exponential distribution with different shape parameters but a common scale parameter. The maximum likelihood estimates of all unknown parameters are obtained and their asymptotic confidence intervals are constructed by the observed Fisher information matrix. Furthermore, the existence and uniqueness of solutions are proved. In the Bayesian framework, the common scale parameter follows an independent Gamma prior and the different shape parameters jointly follow a Beta-Gamma prior. Based on whether the order restriction is imposed on the shape parameters, the Bayesian estimates of all parameters concerning the squared error loss function along with the associated highest posterior density credible intervals are derived by using the importance sampling technique. Then, we use Monte Carlo simulations to study the performance of the various estimators and a real dataset is discussed to illustrate all of the estimation techniques. Finally, we seek an optimum censoring scheme through different optimality criteria. Full article

Accelerated life tests are used to explore the lifetime of extremely reliable items by subjecting them to elevated stress levels from stressors to cause early failures, such as temperature, voltage, pressure, and so on. The alpha power inverse Weibull (APIW) distribution is of great significance and practical applications due to its appealing characteristics, such as its flexibilities in the probability density function and the hazard rate function. We analyze the step stress partially accelerated life testing model with samples from the APIW distribution under adaptive type II progressively hybrid censoring. We first obtain the maximum likelihood estimates and two types of approximate confidence intervals of the distributional parameters and then derive Bayes estimates of the unknown parameters under different loss functions. Furthermore, we analyze three probable optimum test techniques for identifying the best censoring under different optimality criteria methods. We conduct simulation studies to assess the finite sample performance of the proposed methodology. Finally, we provide a real data example to further demonstrate the proposed technique. Full article

A new three-parameter Type-II Lehmann Fréchet distribution (LFD-TII), as a reparameterized version of the Kumaraswamy–Fréchet distribution, is considered. In this study, using progressive Type-II censoring, different estimation methods of the LFD-TII parameters and its lifetime functions, namely, reliability and hazard functions, are considered. In a frequentist setup, both the likelihood and product of the spacing estimators of the considered parameters are obtained utilizing the Newton–Raphson method. From the normality property of the proposed classical estimators, based on Fisher’s information and the delta method, the asymptotic confidence interval for any unknown parametric function is obtained. In the Bayesian paradigm via likelihood and spacings functions, using independent gamma conjugate priors, the Bayes estimators of the unknown parameters are obtained against the squared-error and general-entropy loss functions. Since the proposed posterior distributions cannot be explicitly expressed, by combining two Markov-chain Monte-Carlo techniques, namely, the Gibbs and Metropolis–Hastings algorithms, the Bayes point/interval estimates are approximated. To examine the performance of the proposed estimation methodologies, extensive simulation experiments are conducted. In addition, based on several criteria, the optimum censoring plan is proposed. In real-life practice, to show the usefulness of the proposed estimators, two applications based on two different data sets taken from the engineering and physics fields are analyzed. Full article

Generalized progressive hybrid censored mechanisms have been proposed to reduce the test duration and to save the cost spent on testing. This paper considers the problem of estimating the unknown model parameters and the reliability time functions of the new inverted Nadarajah–Haghighi (NH) distribution under generalized Type-II progressive hybrid censoring using the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation approaches. Utilizing the normal approximation of the frequentist estimators, the corresponding approximate confidence intervals of unknown quantities are also constructed. Using independent gamma conjugate priors under the symmetrical squared error loss, the Bayesian estimators are developed. Since the joint likelihood function is obtained in complex form, the Bayesian estimators and their associated highest posterior density intervals cannot be obtained analytically but can be evaluated via Monte Carlo Markov chain techniques. To select the optimum censoring scheme among different censoring plans, five optimality criteria are used. Finally, to explain how the proposed methodologies can be applied in real situations, two applications representing the failure times of electronic devices and deaths from the coronavirus disease 2019 epidemic in the United States of America are analyzed. In life testing and reliability studies, obtaining whole data always takes a long time and lots of monetary and human resources. In this case, the experimenters prefer to gather data using censoring schemes that make a balance between the length of the test, the desired sample size, and the cost. Lately, an adaptive progressive type-II hybrid censoring scheme is suggested to enhance the efficiency of the statistical inference. By utilizing this scheme, this paper seeks to investigate classical and Bayesian estimations of the Dagum distribution. The maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation methods are considered to estimate the distribution parameters and some reliability indices. The Bayesian estimation is developed under the assumption of independent gamma priors and by employing symmetric and asymmetric loss functions. Due to the tough form of the joint posterior distribution, the Markov chain Monte Carlo technique is implemented to gather samples from the full conditional distributions and in turn obtain the Bayes estimates. The approximate confidence intervals and the highest posterior density credible intervals are also obtained. The effectiveness of the various suggested methods is compared through a simulated study. The optimal progressive censoring plans are also shown, and number of optimality criteria are explored. To demonstrate the applicability of the suggested point and interval estimators, two real data sets are also examined. The outcomes of the simulation study and data analysis demonstrated that the proposed scheme is adaptable and very helpful in ending the experiment when the experimenter’s primary concern is the number of failures. This paper is an endeavor to investigate some estimation problems of the unknown parameters and some reliability measures of the alpha power exponential distribution in the presence of progressive first-failure censored data. In this regard, the classical and Bayesian approaches are considered to acquire the point and interval estimates of the different quantities. The maximum likelihood approach is proposed to obtain the estimates of the unknown parameters, reliability, and hazard rate functions. The approximate confidence intervals are also considered. The Bayes estimates are obtained by considering both symmetric and asymmetric loss functions. The Bayes estimates and the associated highest posterior density credible intervals are given by applying the Monte Carlo Markov Chain technique. Due to the complexity of the given estimators which cannot be compared theoretically, a simulation study is implemented to compare the performance of the different procedures. In addition, diverse optimality criteria are employed to pick the best progressive censoring plans. Two engineering applications are considered to illustrate the applicability of the offered estimators. The numerical outcomes showed that the Bayes estimates based on symmetric or asymmetric loss functions perform better than other estimates in terms of minimum root mean square errors and interval lengths. This paper considers optimal design problems for the Weibull distribution, which can be used to model symmetrical or asymmetrical data, in the presence of progressive interval censoring in life-testing experiments. Two robust approaches, Bayesian and minimax, are proposed to deal with the dependence of the D-optimality and c-optimality on the unknown model parameters. Meanwhile, the compound design method is applied to ensure a compromise between the precision of estimation of the model parameters and the precision of estimation of the quantiles. Furthermore, to make the design become more practical, the cost constraints are taken into account in constructing the optimal designs. Two algorithms are provided for finding the robust optimal solutions. A simulated example and a real life example are given to illustrate the proposed methods. The sensitivity analysis is also studied. These new design methods can help the engineers to obtain robust optimal designs for the censored life-testing experiments. Full article
